Malbec - Pasadena Ratings and Reviews
First time dining at Malbec for my husband's birthday. Made reservations through Opentable and let them know it was a birthday and wanted to quiet spot in the restaurant, a booth preferred. Upon arrival, they didn't ask us if we had reservations but took us to a table. I said we had reservations and ask for a booth if possible or quite location. They sat us at a table adjacent to a party of 8, could not accommodate a booth. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come and let us know they were our waiter and ask if we wanted water. The service was slow and too much time in between to check on us for drinks, and courses to arrive. For the amount of money $200 we spent, I would have rather gone to Ruth's Chris. Really wanted to like this place as it is an Argentinian menu. Food was good, but service is lacking for the price point.
The entrana (skirt steak) with chimichuri was delicious and perfectly cooked, the lams and mussels had great flavor and broth, and the Remolachas y peras salad was nice and fresh including the cheese. The malbec wine was also good.
They mistakenly gave us a pork dish instead of lamb dish but the realized they made a mistake. The pork was kind of dry so we did not eat it. This created a delay that unfortunately was not worth waiting for The lamb chops eventually came (they are not regularly on menu) and were very undercooked, more like raw. The flavor was not good and even those that like rare meat did not enjoy it. we took a couple of small bites and that was enough to stop.
They should stick to the seafood and steak dishes, those were worth ordering. Unfortunately I am wary to return, I don't know if I am going to get raw meat or something good.
Love this place!
My husband and I wanted to share this place with my brother and fiancée for a long time. We were finally able to a few nights ago....and they LOVED it!
We shared the carpaccio and empanadas. For entrees, we had the salmon, rack of lamb, and the “you can’t go wrong” skirt steak. Overall, a place my husband and I will come back to every chance we get!
Ordered steak which took 40 minutes to make and came out long after our daughter finished her pasta. Her pasta was served with moldy cheese. Steak was ordered medium but came out well-done. Sent it back and the next serving was medium but not seasoned. Wait staff took plates away while we were still eating. All of this happened during a 415p reservation with 5 other people in the restaurant. Had to track down someone to talk to; the wait staff ignored us for 10 minutes before we found someone who would acknowledge us. Took forever to get our check and no apologies for service or delay. Only when we complained to the manager did he not charge for the steak. All-around rubbish team effort. Eff this place.
Authentic Argentine restaurant. Each time my wife and I go for dinner we try something different. While the food is unique to the country it is outstanding. I especially like the beef dishes which Argentina is famous for. While my wife enjoys the pasta and seafood. Safe to say there is something for everyone's tastes.
Malbec was nothing short of fantastic. My friend and I both ordered steak; I ordered the skirt steak with grilled vegetables and he ordered a bacon-wrapped filet with a gorgeous mushroom cream sauce. The flavor was outstanding. If you are coming to an Argentinian restaurant, steak is a must. You won't be disappointed. Their "house" Malbec was also good - paired well with the steak.
The food was very average. I ordered the barramundi special, very little flavor and overcooked. A friend order a steak and it wasn't cooked to med-rare and was actually burnt on the exterior. Obviously tough. I would say the environment is nice and the staff was good, but the food was not great, and expensive for what it was.
It was my first time at Malbec. The hostage was GREAT! She answered questions even after we were seated. The food choices she told us about were just spot on. The food was very good. The only thing was our waiter, he wasn't very friendly. I didn't understand why he had a bit of an attitude with my friend. Besides that, it was very good.
