Malbec - Pasadena Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, we found the service to be just adequate. I thought the food would makeup for our lukewarm reception since my husband and I had been very satisfied with our meals in the past. I was wrong. My Dine LA tasting menu was just ...ok. I had the burrata and Prosciutto appetizer, and I had to season it myself. I had the fish entree, with very soggy skin. Yuk. The ice cream was, again, just ok. The only reason I gave the food three stars is that my husband said the ravioli (not on the fixed menu)were good, freshly made. If you are going to be a Dine LA restaurant, you better have your dishes down , not just ok.
Fantastic food. VERY NOISY. Not good for an intimate conversation over dinner. Service was great, though. Efficient and thoughtful. If your group is drinking and loud, it's a great place! If you are on a date and want to have an audible conversation, or have a quiet conversation with a friend, maybe not so much.
Once again the food at Malbec was delicious. This time the service really fell apart. Half an hour to get bread, an hour after ordering--this is no exaggeration--before we got our starter course. I think the wait staff was overwhelmed by the Dine LA crowd. Water refill? Finally got it on the third request. Not their finest moment.
The ambiance was great. I ordered the lamb and the creamed corn. The mashed potatoes that came with the lamb were way too creamy and so was the creamed corn. I think the creamed corn was mixed with bell peppers or some red food that made it taste a bit weird for my taste. The lamb was good, but definitely under seasoned. For what we paid I would’ve expected more out of it. The wine selection was great, however.
Malbec Argentinian Cuisine is a wonderful dining experience. The food was excellent. The appetizer was Provoleta. The cheese was smooth and the pequillo pepper sweet and perfectly prepared. The sole was well prepared and the spinach side dish tasted great. The wine list offers many options red, white and sparkling. And the dessert list very tasty. This is a must try dining experience.
Malbec is always a great dining experience. The service is excellent, always friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is lively, but not too loud and the food is great. It would be nice to have a full bar (it's just beer and wine), but the food is reliable and delicious!
Quaint restaurant with a great wine selection. I did not enjoy my meal which was the pasta with shrimp and scallops. No flavor or seasoning at all very bland. My boyfriend loved his steak and salad. Our waiter was not very attentive but overall nice experience
Celebrated a wedding anniversary and birthday with friends and family. Seated promptly with great service although the reatauarant was full. Enough noise that a 5 month old baby did not stick out but darkly lit enough for those on a date night. Just got back from Argentina so food and wine were spot on. Had a great night!
I think our experience, on Christmas, was not typical of Malbec. We started the meal with complimentary bread and their delicious pesto. The salad was quite late arriving which caused a very nice quality New York Strip to be cooked too long. The waitress could not have been more gracious and she insisted on taking the steak off our bill. The creamed spinach side order was wonderful. I am confident this meal would have excelled on any normal evening and they did all in their power to compensate for overdoing the steak.
This was our second time having Christmas Day lunch/dinner in this restaurant and we definitely intend to continue the tradition. We just love the place for the atmosphere and super friendly service as well as some unusual foods. Excellent wine selection as well. I like to be introduced and taste wines from other parts of the world. They also have my very favorite dessert on the menu which is "Affogato" and not that many restaurants here have that. Voila!
We were here for the first time on Christmas Eve. There is an outdoor covered patio that is way quieter than inside, but the light is pretty low. Inside is fairly noisy. Service outside was OK, but probably better inside. Busy on this special night--also a special menu for the night. Food was very good, but seemed a bit pricey. I would definitely go back.
Drove all the way from Laguna Beach to meet friends at an old favorite spot haven't been to for years. And the manager turned out to be someone I knew and he went overboard with great service. Ask for Edwin on any visit and you will be well treated. Waiter service is also excellent and food absolutely delicious!
First time dining at Malbec for my husband's birthday. Made reservations through Opentable and let them know it was a birthday and wanted to quiet spot in the restaurant, a booth preferred. Upon arrival, they didn't ask us if we had reservations but took us to a table. I said we had reservations and ask for a booth if possible or quite location. They sat us at a table adjacent to a party of 8, could not accommodate a booth. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come and let us know they were our waiter and ask if we wanted water. The service was slow and too much time in between to check on us for drinks, and courses to arrive. For the amount of money $200 we spent, I would have rather gone to Ruth's Chris. Really wanted to like this place as it is an Argentinian menu. Food was good, but service is lacking for the price point.
The entrana (skirt steak) with chimichuri was delicious and perfectly cooked, the lams and mussels had great flavor and broth, and the Remolachas y peras salad was nice and fresh including the cheese. The malbec wine was also good.
They mistakenly gave us a pork dish instead of lamb dish but the realized they made a mistake. The pork was kind of dry so we did not eat it. This created a delay that unfortunately was not worth waiting for The lamb chops eventually came (they are not regularly on menu) and were very undercooked, more like raw. The flavor was not good and even those that like rare meat did not enjoy it. we took a couple of small bites and that was enough to stop.
They should stick to the seafood and steak dishes, those were worth ordering. Unfortunately I am wary to return, I don't know if I am going to get raw meat or something good.
Love this place!
My husband and I wanted to share this place with my brother and fiancée for a long time. We were finally able to a few nights ago....and they LOVED it!
We shared the carpaccio and empanadas. For entrees, we had the salmon, rack of lamb, and the “you can’t go wrong” skirt steak. Overall, a place my husband and I will come back to every chance we get!
