It's f-ing closed! And i had the most ridiculous interaction with YOU, OpenTable, about their closing and the fact that they took my cc card info for my reservation. One word - idiots.
Made a reservation through Open Table, but upon arrival they said it would be about 5 minutes to seat us. While we waited we sat at the bar for a drink. The bartender was extremely friendly. Unfortunately I couldn't say the same for the 2 hostesses (1 male/1 female). I finally had to go back up to the front to ask what was taking so long and they asked for my name again and said it would be another 5 minutes. I went back to the bar and literally a minute later the hostess showed up to seat us. We sat outside which was really nice. Our waitress greeted us and she was very friendly and gave us some good food recommendations. We really loved the potatoes and the scallops were AMAZING. We had the salad, stuffed peppers, beef filet, and tres leches for dessert. They were all very good including the drinks we got. Overall I would say this was a great place to dine.
We really enjoyed Malaga. There were lots of great items on the menu to choose from, all of which were quite enjoyable. We were visiting from out of town and had no preconceived notions of what we to expect. The experience was a big hit.
Pre-concert dinner still hadn't arrived an hour after ordering; went without.
Overall fun experience. Loved the brussel sprouts, goat cheese balls with lavendar honey & onion marmalade. Spinach empanadas filling was great, outer crust a little tough but good. Also tried scallops, beef & lamb. All were perfectly done & very tasty. Portions on small side; not unexpected for tapas but a bit pricey.
It was pretty good. Not the best tapas restaurant in town, but pretty good and not too expensive given the area.
I really enjoyed Malaga! Out of all the dishes that we tried, there was only one true clunker that we had to send back (and I never send food back if it's in any way salvageable): the pork belly dish. Everything else was amazing, though, and the waitress and manager were very helpful and apologetic about it, so overall I had a great experience and would definitely eat here again. I'd even try ordering the dish again, because I have faith that it was just an off evening for whatever reason. It's great fun to order several dishes and have a taste of everything - great for a date!
We've been to Malagas a bunch of times in the last 9 years - even for a first date in Austin but they really were so sweet since it was our anniversary. It was honestly the nicest treatment for a special occasion we've had for any restaurant
Great tapas menu!
We enjoyed the Sangria!
Great option for a team meeting / dinner. Takes the pressure off of everyone trying to figure out what to order. We talked with Ray before hand and told him to bring out their favorites with a mix of starters, veggies, meats and to make sure that everyone had enough. Good wine pairings as well.
It is like your in Spain. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The smells are so memorable. The wine list is very extensive, featuring so many choices from Spain and other regions. Educated waiters help you plan out an evening to the nines. Don't be afraid to ask for reasonably priced wines if you do not recognize what you are not familiar. A listing of my favorites include a meat and cheese plate. The varieties and tastes will astound. The wrapped dates with bacon and blue cheese and the beef filet selection are delicious. The empanadas with spinach and mushrooms will savor any palate. If by chance you have room for dessert, you have some chocolate items and milk cake. Yummo. Best to make reservations as it can get packed. Enjoy
Where to start, 1st off.....Our waiter forgot about us ....twice!, we saw 2 tables get their food before us(by more than 10 minutes). we overheard other tables get suggestions and recommendations, both our waiter did NOT give us. The food was cold and WAY OVER-COOKED by the time we got it(18 minutes later for 2 plate tapas) the pork tasted like dry rubbed crap, while the potato croquet was the best thing we ordered(embarrassing).. We WILL NOT be coming back and will exchange the vouchers we purchased for this place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
Malaga is incredible! A group of 10 of us went for my sister's bachelorette party. Everyone raved about the food and sangria, and people were really appreciative of being able to do split checks (we paid with 8 different credit cards). I look forward to visiting Malaga again in the future!!!
My husband and I wanted something other than BBQ so we decided to try Malaga. We were very pleased we did. We sat outside and right away we were brought ice cold water. I wish I remembered our waiters name. He made fantastic wine and food suggestions. Everything we ate was delicious. The ARROZ NEGRE CON TORTILLA DE CAMARON was especially good.
Second time there. Food excellent. Waiter (Jerry) was phenomenal.
Service and food were great.
We allowed the waiter to bring food according to his recommendations, as we had a large group. The food, service snd ambiance were fantastic. Will definitely return.
Service was wonderful, our waiter was polite and timely. Kept our water full throughout the meal. The food was hit and miss. The dates were hot and tasty, the meatballs were cold and bland, the steak didn't have much flavor but it was cooked exactly medium rare which was nice, the shrimp was good.
Good location, good drinks, middle of the road food.
Great food and flavored. Will be back. Our waiter was amazing and took excellent care of us.
Wow, just wow. The tapas were amazing, beautifully presented and delicious. Fried potatoes in aioli sauce, mushrooms, meatballs and beet salad were our favorites, but save room for dessert - chocolate torraine with cherry ice cream and marshmallow. Yum!!!!The service was outstanding in every way. Great atmosphere with Spanish music. Can't wait to go back.
Great food and service!
We have eaten at Malaga 4 times now. The first time was shortly after it opened and it was fantastic. Each time we have come since it has been a let down. This time, our server wasn't very attentive (maybe they were short staffed), the ceviche was so fishy that we couldn't eat it (ceviche is one of my favorite dishes), & everything came out slow (including our drinks). I want to like Malaga but it continues to disappoint and we have decided we won't be going back again.
The food was excellent and all was unique. Everything was equally great, but the paella was amazing. Next time I'll start with that because it is a lot of food!
Spanish tapas muy delicioso! As good as any I've had in New York. I love this restaurant!
Love this place & their tapas! Hostess was a little obviously perplexed by our age. I guess the over 40 set is not really welcome.
We've been for long in Spain and thought we may have something similar
Chef doesn't have an idea of Spain cousine
Food was disgusting
Pictures in website are misguided
Please if U have been in Spain and wants to have a taste of it in Austin,Please avoid that place. If U don't care get that ugly stuff
Excellent wine menu. Food was amazing and the service was great! I will continue to go back to this place and I'm going to recommend it to everyone I know!
We ate at Malagas with a group of 11 women. The waiter suggested we let him order and pace the meal for us and we agreed. Every course was delicious. Highly recommended!
As good as I've had in New York or Spain. They had Spanish guitarists both times we were there. We sat outdoors the first time so didn't have a chance to hear them that night. On our recent visit we sat near the stage and I was thrilled when they knew my two requests.
Fantastic. There was a live acoustic Guitarrist playing Latin tunes. Very mellow and not too loud even when he's playing.
Of particular note are the bacon wrapped molasses glazed figs and the swear potato fritter dessert.
Savannah is Great and attentive!! Clearly she needs a raise as she not only looked after the patrons, but tried to up sell items and had good knowledge of menu and pairings with drinks. Great to see and experience - pushed all my buttons. I will return...
Amazing service and a good selection of food. Try the asparagus and sangria!
Malaga's Tapas Bar had wonderful food. The crab croquettas were absolutely delicious. The house sangria is a must try. The staff was friendly and attentive and made the experience a good one.
Food was not that good especially for the price. Service was not that good either.
Excellent tapas - as good as Spanish restaurants in New York. We ate in the lovely outdoor garden so we missed what sounded like an excellent musician playing inside. Good cocktails, service and ambiance!
It never fails, every time I go to Malaga, something goes wrong. This time, we were there for Valentine's Day and had a fixed 5-course menu.....except they ran out of the 2 choices in the 4th course. Prior to this, we asked for pita bread and were told there was none. The manager brought out alternate tapas for the 4th course and they had pita bread. I hate being lied to. The sangria is basically Carlo Rossi (you can buy it for $8/jug) and they charge $9 for a glass.
The waiter did bring us all the champagne we wanted after having to make substitutions in the fixed menu. I appreciated that. A substitute dessert was also brought out. The upsetting thing is we had to make a reservation so they knew how much food to have and shouldn't have run out.
I booked this a month in advance and had to ensure with a credit card. Days before (once all other options booked up) a note went up saying 5 course set menu. We were very disappointed as there were things we wanted to try. The set menu was not great first candied apple ok soup way too spicy for a set menu fish entree very bland. Scallops were good and dessert was tasty. We won't be back.
The atmosphere was great for a romantic dinner, service was exceptional
(thanks Jerry )
Good food, drinks and music.
Definitely a must!
We did not like the fixed priced limited menu for Valentines Day. Would have gladly paid $55 per person there if the food had been better and we had more selections.
