It’s too loud. They should have some sound absorbers throughout the restaurant. I can barely hear my guest from across the table. The food was fine. Nothing special. Happy hour drinks were Only at the bar which most places that I’ve been has the specials throughout the restaurant. Service was greAt but That’s my least concern for a restaurant experience. First time there and last. No reason to go back
Several hotels are clustered around a bunch of mostly fast food restaurants that are within walking distance. Malabar is the only one that serves a somewhat upscale and varied menu. Attentive staff and very good food. If we lived in the area we would definitely return.
Food was ok; but definitely not as good as it used to be. The restaurant seems to cater more to the happy hour crowd.
Always love eating here. Great food & service.
I have lived in Natomas for 12 years and this was my first time at Malabar. My mom ordered the salmon and it was prepared perfectly! Our server John was great, very personable and accommodating. I'm glad that I finally decided to have dinner there and I will also be taking advantage of Happy Hour in the very near future!!
Waiter was a crack up. Happy hour is really good
Service was excellent! Food and drink very good. Would like to have been able to have our larger party back in the more open area to be able to mingle with each other a bit more but it did not take away from an overall very enjoyable evening.
Had a pleasant experience here for dinner. Nice ambiance for this American grill based restaurant. Service was great and the food was very good. Portions we're very generous.
This was my first time and it for a BDay celebration! The service and food were excellent!!!!
Food and the service were good. Our waitress was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I had the fish and chips and they were crisp and good. Portion are large but the price is reasonable. Only issue was the noise level. We sat in the back and it was loud. We had to speak loud to be heard.
Terrible service; it was very disappointing. The menu has changed a little; and the quality of the food was not as good as it used to be. Really too bad; at one time it "was" a pretty good neighborhood restaurant.
Good drinks, food not too good.....had the ribeye, not a good piece of meat.
Admittedly, my needs were rather simple. I came in sat at the bar. I had a martini and a wonderful Barbecued Salmon Salad Nicoise. The service was spot on and I got to watch the Giants game! What could be better?
Family get together. Food was good except for vegan meals. Bread on sandwiches was very soggy. Table behind us was very loud. Filet mignon was excellent as well as rib eye and chicken tenders.
We had a wonderful Early Fathers Day Lunch.Thank You.
Great restaurant. W dry thing was amazing!!! Try the poblano burger
Why is it REQUIRED that I write something?
My server/bartender at the bar was excellent, friendly, had great suggestions, and made sure I had some to drink that I would enjoy. The food was ..ok
The Manager and the person who seated us was just fine. Employees not trained well. Food was delivered to our table we did not order, one of the plates was completely wrong, the child’s hamburger was undercooked and had to send it back. All the while our waitress obviously did not have customer service skills or experience. We waited way too long for everything even though it was not crowded. We waited very long for the check and then for processing the bill. It was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The food was also mediocre at best. I will say that the manager, Paul, was helpful in compensation and professional. He was the positive element of the experience. I will never go back.
Best place to eat close to Sacramento airport. I always take family here when they come to visit me.
We were a party of 12, and unfortunately, they when the food was delivered to our table, they got at least 4 of the orders incorrect. Due to the time, the individuals ate what was delivered, even though they were incorrect.
The menu is decreased significantly for special occasions which we did not know. So for anyone who doesn’t eat fish or beef, there was nothing for you to eat. Even the desert which was advertised as their special for the weekend was not available. This is the second time we have gone on a “special occasion” (the last one being Super Bowl sunday when it wasn’t even open). Definitely not going again on a special occasion. We have gone many other times and enjoyed it.
Prompt and professional service. Excellent food!
Great job to all.
Excellent brunch! Wide variety of food including breakfast and lunch items. Would definitely go again.
A lovely dining room, but the shades do not filter the sun adequately and those facing west in several seats are affected. Next time we’ll ask for specific seats to avoid this.
The food and service is consistently good.
My wife and I went here to celebrate or anniversary. We have dined here often, and it is usually a good experience. This time was an exception however. The host was friendly and wished us a Happy Anniversary. (I noted it was a special occasion when I made the reservation). We were seated at a table with a bad location, next to the kitchen and where the employees conduct business. Our server never acknowledged our anniversary, and was overly businesslike. My food was excellent, as it usually is here, but my wifes steak was more rare to med. rare than the medium that she ordered. We will return, because of our prior good experiences, but hope this does not become the norm.
My experience was a great one. Our server Lenard was so good. He was very attentive to our needs and very welcoming to your restaurant. I will definitely be coming back. Our food was outstanding I would recommend the steak 🥩.
Thank you ,Deanna Williams
Made a reservation for 7:45 and waited ten minutes after our reservation and then were told they had staffing and “computer issues” and couldn’t seat us for at least 30 more. Within two minutes of telling us this, a party of four came in and were almost immediately seated!
This also happened to us the previous night and thought it was a fluke, but it seems there may be an underlying issue...... I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone
Great food and good service. Nice spot for a work lunch.
We had over ten people and they totally accommodated us. Great server and incredibly polite. She really went out of her way for us. Wonderful experience and the food was excellent too.
Great food, ambience and exemplary service!
We went to Malabar American Cooking for drinks and appetizers. We loved the Portabella Mushroom and Seared Ahi. The crab cakes rocked! An overall great experience!
The ribeye steak was not of restaurant quality. It was grisly and tough to eat. For the price, very subpar and disappointing.
Food was good quality, nicely presented, and very tasty. The service was excellent.
Grabbed a late lunch around 2:30 p.m. Not very busy, so no wait to get table, service was great and drinks were quickly refilled. Food was tasty and hot. Always a great meal at Malabar!!!
Great Service and Food. Sunday Brunch had fewer diners than expected which suited us just fine.
Huge pancakes and friend potatoes were excellent. Other than the hollandaise for the eggs
benedict needing a bit more lemon everything was fine.
Meet up with my college buddy here every year, never disappoints. Stay please!
Pretty average but the only place to eat so we were glad it was there. It took a long time for our waiter to appear when we were seated and it was not crowded. While it serves the purpose if you are staying near the airport I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.
Our annual office trip from Chico to a Kings game is always started off with dinner at Malaber, we have never been disappointed with any aspect of Malabar! The food is always yummy, the servers are always friendly and offer amazing suggestions, and the drinks..........well, one is never enough, so we always have more!
Team API will see you again next year Malabar!
We rarely eat out due to food intolerances, including gluten. It was a pleasant surprise to find a busy place like Malabar that has a gluten free menu and follows up by taking precautions. Our meals were delivered on specially colored plates with GF flags prominently displayed, along with our non GF family member's meals. It may not sound like much, but this is always a good sign and showed they took our gluten issues seriously. Even better, there were no telltale symptoms of gluten ingestion over the next day. Ordering GF doesn't always mean you won't get struck by cross contamination, as we have learned. Hence the normal reluctance to eat out at new places. We ordered kind of across the board, with tacos, marinated ahi, salads and the like. It was all very good. We would go again. Thank you and well done, Malabar!
