Mako's American Grille Ratings and Reviews
Pleasant staff & small but adequate interior. Nothing was technically "wrong" but the food was just ok, and no real reason to return within Sea Isle vs. the other options. Got Mako Bites - tasty but very over-seasoned with blackening spice / salt. I ordered the seared tuna which was nice, veggies were fine, but seaweed salad was horrifically "fishy" tasting; have never had a seafood salad taste that like that previously. Wife ordered their special chicken dish - the piece of chicken was massive and texture was so-so. Again, it was fine, just would not return or recommend.
Excellent food and service! So many great menu selections made it hard to choose, but the crab soup was delicious, and the mako and salmon entrees were terrific. Cannoli dessert topped it off.
We are very happy to have this year-round BYOB within a short driving distance and will definitely return before the summer crowd begins.
I made a reservation for Mako's on OpenTable for 1/28/18 at 7 pm for my wife and I. I have the confirmation but when we arrived the restaurant was closed. Confirmation #2109757130. We enjoy eating at Mako's so this was a bummer. Found out it was a glitch with OpenTable not Mako’s. We dined again on 2/17/18 and it was great.
Service was super excellent. Our server was pleasant, timely and smiled easily. She gave excellent advice as to the menu.
The food was very good. I ordered the Blackened Mako. The combination of the blackened fish, apples, onions and chutney was designed excellent. All of it together enhanced the experience. My wife ordered the crab stuffed tilapia. Again, far better than expected.
My only knock on the place is that the portion size was small for the price.
FYI: like lots of Jersey restaurants, its BYOB.
Makos never disappoints! We had a glitch in that open table took a reservation for us on a Thursday nite when Makos was closed. We were so upset as we drove 2+ hours to get there and it was closed. Silver lining was that we were able to dine for lunch Friday and the food was amazing as usual. The manager was understanding and apologized for the glitch. Highly recommend the pasta with crab and shrimp in pink sauce. Worth traveling for!
Also don't miss the crab bisque which we have had many times and is outstanding.
Our meals were delicious, service excellent! We ordered from the special Girl's Weekend choices, which was everything on the menu, not something you usually are offered! My husband even got the special price!! Mako's is a great restaurant in Sea Isle, one of our favorites!
Excellent food choices, especially if you are gluten free. I had the Ahi tuna with orange ginger sauce and it was cooked to perfection, rare. I have Celiacs and was so excited that I could select my dinner from the regular menu, even the soups were gluten free. Mango habanero Makos was delicious, per my husband. This was our second visit, and not our last!
We made reservations for 6:30 and were seated immediately. The table only fit two people and barely gave us enough room for the food we ordered. We were handed our menus by a very nice waitress and were quickly served water, bread with dipping sauces, along with glasses for our BYOB drinks. Minutes later we were asked if we were ready to order. We said no as we wanted to enjoy our drinks and the bread/dipping sauce, and relax while reading the menu. Several times in short succession we were again asked if we wanted to order. We finally gave in on the 4th request.
While we waited for our meal, a large group (10 people) was seated next to us (this is a pretty small restaurant). Then a large group was seated behind us. As we patiently waited for our food, and while the wine was being consumed in quantity beside and behind us, the two groups started talking very loudly to the point were my husband and I, at our wee table, could not carry on a conversation and be heard. Our meal then finally arrived, but our evening was ruined.
I opted for their special Columbus Day all inclusive menu for $39. My husband ordered spaghetti with shrimp in a Gorgonzola sauce. It was very good and my husband loved it. My first course was a salad which was small but tasty...arugula with sliced pear and dressing. My appetizer choice was ahi tuna with a habanara sauce. 5 tiny squares of tuna (postage stamp size) that were tasteless and not very appetizing. My main dish was salmon with asparagus and baby potatoes. The salmon was very good and I enjoy what I received. The final dish was pumpkin brûlée with a wonderful brown sugar crust. It was delicious. However, the dish that it arrived in was barely 3” around. I barely got a taste of my dessert. So disappointed!!
We paid our bill and left. We are glad we tried Mako’s but probably will not return. So many other restaurants to try at the Jersey shore.
Mako's Grille never disappoints - Never. It is inviting from the first step in the door. The food is creative, well prepared and delightful bite after bite. On this trip, my wife had the Honey Glazed Salmon and I had the Mako Provençal. Please don't feel that Mako's is just a seafood place. No, no. Their menu is well balanced with meat dishes of the same fine, creative quality. Reminder - make reservations no matter what the seasons to assure your spot and BYOB.
I am a chef so I set the bar a little higher than normal people. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. I order the special which was mako ( what you would think they are famous for) it was so flavorless and dry you would never know it was mako. The chef loves chili powder because that is all you can taste in every dish. I paid $100 for two salads and two entrees no alcohol it is BYOB which we did not know but that is the only thing that is appealing to me about this spot ! Very loud and seating is tight but service was good.
Great restaurant. Been coming here for years as a big fan of Mako Shark. Their Mako special has never disappointed, appetizers are awesome, and I haven't had a any negative comments about this place once. It is a pricey menu, but that is expected down the shore and is on par with the other restaurants.
