Mako's American Grille Ratings and Reviews
Our meals were delicious, service excellent! We ordered from the special Girl's Weekend choices, which was everything on the menu, not something you usually are offered! My husband even got the special price!! Mako's is a great restaurant in Sea Isle, one of our favorites!
Excellent food choices, especially if you are gluten free. I had the Ahi tuna with orange ginger sauce and it was cooked to perfection, rare. I have Celiacs and was so excited that I could select my dinner from the regular menu, even the soups were gluten free. Mango habanero Makos was delicious, per my husband. This was our second visit, and not our last!
We made reservations for 6:30 and were seated immediately. The table only fit two people and barely gave us enough room for the food we ordered. We were handed our menus by a very nice waitress and were quickly served water, bread with dipping sauces, along with glasses for our BYOB drinks. Minutes later we were asked if we were ready to order. We said no as we wanted to enjoy our drinks and the bread/dipping sauce, and relax while reading the menu. Several times in short succession we were again asked if we wanted to order. We finally gave in on the 4th request.
While we waited for our meal, a large group (10 people) was seated next to us (this is a pretty small restaurant). Then a large group was seated behind us. As we patiently waited for our food, and while the wine was being consumed in quantity beside and behind us, the two groups started talking very loudly to the point were my husband and I, at our wee table, could not carry on a conversation and be heard. Our meal then finally arrived, but our evening was ruined.
I opted for their special Columbus Day all inclusive menu for $39. My husband ordered spaghetti with shrimp in a Gorgonzola sauce. It was very good and my husband loved it. My first course was a salad which was small but tasty...arugula with sliced pear and dressing. My appetizer choice was ahi tuna with a habanara sauce. 5 tiny squares of tuna (postage stamp size) that were tasteless and not very appetizing. My main dish was salmon with asparagus and baby potatoes. The salmon was very good and I enjoy what I received. The final dish was pumpkin brûlée with a wonderful brown sugar crust. It was delicious. However, the dish that it arrived in was barely 3” around. I barely got a taste of my dessert. So disappointed!!
We paid our bill and left. We are glad we tried Mako’s but probably will not return. So many other restaurants to try at the Jersey shore.
Mako's Grille never disappoints - Never. It is inviting from the first step in the door. The food is creative, well prepared and delightful bite after bite. On this trip, my wife had the Honey Glazed Salmon and I had the Mako Provençal. Please don't feel that Mako's is just a seafood place. No, no. Their menu is well balanced with meat dishes of the same fine, creative quality. Reminder - make reservations no matter what the seasons to assure your spot and BYOB.
I am a chef so I set the bar a little higher than normal people. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. I order the special which was mako ( what you would think they are famous for) it was so flavorless and dry you would never know it was mako. The chef loves chili powder because that is all you can taste in every dish. I paid $100 for two salads and two entrees no alcohol it is BYOB which we did not know but that is the only thing that is appealing to me about this spot ! Very loud and seating is tight but service was good.
Great restaurant. Been coming here for years as a big fan of Mako Shark. Their Mako special has never disappointed, appetizers are awesome, and I haven't had a any negative comments about this place once. It is a pricey menu, but that is expected down the shore and is on par with the other restaurants.
My mom is a local and we dine here frequently (with kids as well) as Makos consistently delivers creative and excellent food for the price. In addition, the owner is friendly, often visible and attentive to his restaurant. In addition, the waitstaff are very approachable and welcoming. Brunch is a must as well!
I've been to Mako several time and have always enjoyed it. This past Saturday there was a table of 6 that were obnoxiously loud. The restaurant is small so this presented a big problem. The wait staff did there best they could even apologized for the loud table, however there really was nothing there could do. When the group finally left the was a round of applause from the remaining dinner patrons.
Decor is cute & whimsical. Staff is pleasant courteous & attentive. Menu choices and food quality exceptional & chef accommodating to requests and special orders.
Management clearly trying not quite up to task of keeping good balance of service & customer satisfaction.
Area small which would be charming except tile and bare walls do nothing to dampen sound and half the room full is deafening and unpleasant.
There is a lot to like at Mako's - but there is a lot that is troublesome. First, the fish was wonderfully fresh, the aoli was outstanding, the waitress was terrific. But, the crabcakes had very little taste (the aoli really helped), the asian slaw was almost not there and, when the waitress brought more, it really didn't have much of an asian taste. They appear to season their foods very lightly or not at all.
Last year, we had a much better experience. I don't know if it was just an off night, whether there is someone new in the kitchen, or what.
Bottom line is that we were underwhelmed by our visit even though there were some things that were excellent.
This is our second time and the bottom line is that the food is very goo, flavorful and not too too much. It;s a small place so both crowded and noisy but not enough to warrant missing the place. The staff is very accommodating.
I had the crab soup and the arrabiata rosa, my wife had the spinach salad and the crab cakes. Everything was very good.
Parking is a challenge so leave early.
Fabulous as always!! They never disappoint. This is the third Summer in a row that a group of that graduated together has met there for dinner. There is always 12-15 of us. Never a problem for Mako's! Food is always hot and very delicious. Giving them an A+
