Makiman Sushi - Center City - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It was closed. I was still able to make a reservation on Open Table, received an email confirmation of the reservation and when we arrived it was "temporarily closed" according to a piece of paper tapped on the door. Left us scrambling for another place to eat before our show.
One of my favorite sushi places to go in Philly! Food is always delicious and presentation is amazing. Love that it is BYO and reasonably priced...especially the speciality rolls they're huge!
I've eaten her many times and the one thing that bothers me is that our server never seems to wait until we are finished our appetizer before bringing out our entrees...makes me feel rushed!
Overall pleasant experience with amazing food!
Makiman was very accommodating for our large group's birthday dinner, and gave us complimentary fried ice cream with a candle on top to end the meal. We had the Party Boat 3, and it was definitely more than worth the price, and absolutely delicious, as well. The fish was fresh, and the rice cooked perfectly. They asked us if we wanted spicy mayo and other sushi sauces, and were very attentive to our needs. One of our friends is vegetarian, and she had the vegetable bi bim bap stone pot, which was very filling and she said was delicious. Oh, and don't forget to bring a bottle of wine - this place is BYO as well!
Dined on a Saturday evening as reservations elsewhere in the vicinity were tough to get and we had a concert at the Kimmel at 8:00. My guest and I were, however, very pleased and satisfied with our experience at Makiman and now will consider it a "go to" when in the area and desire Japanese in a casual and convenient setting. No complaints. Sushi was very good and nicely prepared. Will return to this restaurant.
I went for my birthday. I was looking for a sushi byob in center city. I had a total of 13 people in my party. It was really nice. The sushi was good. The server was really nice. Most of my party arrived late but the server was still accommodating friendly and gave us great friendly service.
We stop here after the opera and we are not disappointed. The opera was great but the after opera at makiman with our dear is the highlight of our day. The food is so well prepared. We all has shrimp and the chef was gracious and made a great appetizer for us to share. The service is excellent. Being a byob is a very good feature. We love going to makiman ! Try it.
Had a large group of friends dine here for dinner on Saturday evening before going to a play. Sushi was great, everything very tasty, and there was a great selection on the menu for those who prefer their meats cooked. Our table for 10 was very roomy, and while two of the dinners were delayed a bit in coming out, the rest of us were very satisfied. The BYOB part also helps keep prices down.
This was the second time we ate at Makiman. We enjoyed it as much as the first time. The menu is quite extensive with many Sushi/Sashimi and rolls. Additionally there are two pages of specialty rolls. The atmosphere is quite nice, a little on dark side, but restful and in keeping, in my opinion, with a relaxing dinner. One of the big pluses for us is that it is only 1 1/2 blocks from the Academy. So makes for a very enjoyable and relaxing meal before theater.
Prices are very reasonable, given the center city location.
This restaurant was a great find for us mainly because we were out of town, it was within spitting distance of the theatre we were going to, and it offered no-oil, vegan choices for our diet. But a reservation certainly was not needed. On a winter Tuesday night, from 5:30-7:00 PM, we were the only customers there. The server was very kind in answering our questions and making suggestions, and the edamame and maki rolls we got tasted as good as they normally come. They were served beautifully on what looked like a banana leaf stretched across the plate. I would return, mainly because of its location and that my diet is limited. The waiter said it gets busier after 7:00 PM, but we saw no indication of that when we left at 7:10.
