Made the reservation but when I called the restaurant to confirm, there was no answer. Went to the restaurant and it was closed down.

It was closed. I was still able to make a reservation on Open Table, received an email confirmation of the reservation and when we arrived it was "temporarily closed" according to a piece of paper tapped on the door. Left us scrambling for another place to eat before our show.

We arrived at the restaurant to find that it was dark and closed, with a note on the door. It has been closed ever since. Can't rate the meal, since we couldn't eat there and had to scramble to find a place for dinner. Very disappointing.

One of my favorite sushi places to go in Philly! Food is always delicious and presentation is amazing. Love that it is BYO and reasonably priced...especially the speciality rolls they're huge!

I've eaten her many times and the one thing that bothers me is that our server never seems to wait until we are finished our appetizer before bringing out our entrees...makes me feel rushed!

Overall pleasant experience with amazing food!

Makiman was very accommodating for our large group's birthday dinner, and gave us complimentary fried ice cream with a candle on top to end the meal. We had the Party Boat 3, and it was definitely more than worth the price, and absolutely delicious, as well. The fish was fresh, and the rice cooked perfectly. They asked us if we wanted spicy mayo and other sushi sauces, and were very attentive to our needs. One of our friends is vegetarian, and she had the vegetable bi bim bap stone pot, which was very filling and she said was delicious. Oh, and don't forget to bring a bottle of wine - this place is BYO as well!

What a disappointment! The server had to come back to our table twice to tell us that the things we ordered were actually not available, and the food that they were able to serve was not very good. Otherwise, it's just not a very nice restaurant.

Came on an early Saturday night dinner with my family, 7 people total and we were seated promptly - it was quiet so we got great service. Got all our orders correct and the food tasted great. Will return again in the future!

Dined on a Saturday evening as reservations elsewhere in the vicinity were tough to get and we had a concert at the Kimmel at 8:00. My guest and I were, however, very pleased and satisfied with our experience at Makiman and now will consider it a "go to" when in the area and desire Japanese in a casual and convenient setting. No complaints. Sushi was very good and nicely prepared. Will return to this restaurant.

Food was terrible. Fish did not taste fresh. Certain fish are only on the menu during holidays. Left after one roll and went to another restaurant to finish dinner.

Large and expansive menu, you should get more than just sushi here.
The sushi was pretty good but a little sloppy- for $16 dollar rolls I'd expect higher quality.
Waitress gave us a special sauce for one of the rolls which was nice and appreciated.

I went for my birthday. I was looking for a sushi byob in center city. I had a total of 13 people in my party. It was really nice. The sushi was good. The server was really nice. Most of my party arrived late but the server was still accommodating friendly and gave us great friendly service.

My wife & I ate at Makiman before seeing a show. It was our second time there. The food is excellent, and the waiter was extremely helpful with recommendations and explanations. It is now our go-to place for sushi in Center City.

We stop here after the opera and we are not disappointed. The opera was great but the after opera at makiman with our dear is the highlight of our day. The food is so well prepared. We all has shrimp and the chef was gracious and made a great appetizer for us to share. The service is excellent. Being a byob is a very good feature. We love going to makiman ! Try it.

Great spot on 13th and Spruce. Service was great and it wasn't too crowded. Went on a Saturday night and they offer a BYOB option. Favorite roll was the Valentine Roll and their tuna/avocado roll is simple yet surprisingly packed with flavor.

Had a large group of friends dine here for dinner on Saturday evening before going to a play. Sushi was great, everything very tasty, and there was a great selection on the menu for those who prefer their meats cooked. Our table for 10 was very roomy, and while two of the dinners were delayed a bit in coming out, the rest of us were very satisfied. The BYOB part also helps keep prices down.

They don't have a bar, but will open a bottle of wine if you bring it. But this is not specified in advance. They don't understand English all that well, so one of the dishes was wrong. The others were pretty good, but I wouldn't go back.

This was the second time we ate at Makiman. We enjoyed it as much as the first time. The menu is quite extensive with many Sushi/Sashimi and rolls. Additionally there are two pages of specialty rolls. The atmosphere is quite nice, a little on dark side, but restful and in keeping, in my opinion, with a relaxing dinner. One of the big pluses for us is that it is only 1 1/2 blocks from the Academy. So makes for a very enjoyable and relaxing meal before theater.

Prices are very reasonable, given the center city location.

This restaurant was a great find for us mainly because we were out of town, it was within spitting distance of the theatre we were going to, and it offered no-oil, vegan choices for our diet. But a reservation certainly was not needed. On a winter Tuesday night, from 5:30-7:00 PM, we were the only customers there. The server was very kind in answering our questions and making suggestions, and the edamame and maki rolls we got tasted as good as they normally come. They were served beautifully on what looked like a banana leaf stretched across the plate. I would return, mainly because of its location and that my diet is limited. The waiter said it gets busier after 7:00 PM, but we saw no indication of that when we left at 7:10.
