Makana Terrace - St. Regis - Hawaii Ratings and Reviews
We went for dinner, so we had only a limited time to enjoy the view before the sun set, but the setting and view are fantastic. We were given a table right on the overlook and this was wonderful. The food was made with high quality ingredients. However, the dishes did not quite come together. My husband described his dish as "fish on top of rice pudding"; my squash soup had a fish broth base which overpowered the flavors of the squash. Since this restaurant is in a hotel, it might be best used as breakfast/lunch/in-house option to take advantage of the setting. We were staying in Hanalei and it was not worth the drive for us.
We had high hopes for the St. Regis and felt like the restaurant did not meet our expectations. The food was extremely expensive and rather mediocre. Portions were very large and it screamed "restaurant" food. The outdoor seating was nice but you must go before the sunsets otherwise you are just looking at blackness - lighting could be improved. It was also very cold - I'd recommend heating stands to provide comfort to guests who are spending $200 on a meal for two.
We enjoyed our outdoor dinner here, primarily for the incredible scenery overlooking Hanalei Bay, but also for the great food and excellent service. It's pricey but you are paying for the venue (it's at the St Regis) and it's location which we didn't mind. Food was delicious though menu perhaps a bit ordinary, and not really our thing hence the 4 stars on that. Our 3.5 year old toddler twins loved the coloring books provided. We dined at Kaui Grill (also located in the St Regis) the night before which was also very good, but indoors so we preferred this and would more likely go here again instead of Kauai Grill for that.
We just got back from celebrating Christmas Eve at this wonderful restaurant at the end of our vacation at the St Regis Resort in Princeville. The service was timely and friendly while still offering the correct level of formality. The view is incredible. I had the tasting menu and the pork chop was incredible. Perfect temperature and the flavor bursting with every bite. I also had the wine accompany each course and thought the pairings were well made to make the course stand out even more. My family enjoyed other items off the regular menu and each were very pleased with the flavors from salad to dessert. Well done!!!
The service is phenomenal. I left my jacket in the car and the manager arranged to have it brought to me. The short ribs were very tender and didn't need a knife. The mahi mahi was perfect. We were on the terrace and could see the sunset. We were celebrating our 38th anniversary and they gave us champagne and dessert as s gift. We'll keep coming back every time we vacation here.
We stayed at the St. Regis and had dinner here for my daughter's birthday. Food was delicious, the view was amazing and they brought our kids' food out early (which is always appreciated). We were told this was a great place for celebration dinners however not much to-do was made for my daughter. No candle in the dessert and her piece of cake was not comped.
My 85 year old mom was visiting us from Oahu and has always loved the view from this restaurant site. She was not disappointed. The brunch was ok; not like the Sunday brunches of "old" that they used to have here but then the price I'm sure would have been more than the $39 charge. Our server Mr. Haas was excellent, the view fantastic and the food "ono". Definitely will be back when we have visiting ohana!
We enjoyed the two dinners we had here this week. For our first dinner, we had the signature seafood medley and the pork chop. Both entrees were excellent. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert. The second dinner we had the Kona lobster Cobb salad, the crab cakes, scallop appetizer, and the fabulous chocolate stout (ale) cake. Delicious!
The service was gracious and the view was breathtaking.
We were there for brunch and we took the buffet, well organized, lots of variety and really good
The spectacular view, perhaps the prettiest of the island is the star!
Excellent service as one must expect in the highest ranking place on the island.
I can sit there and drink cocktails till I die and my life would have worth the inconvenience of being born...
The Makai Terrance at the St. Regis shouldn't be missed while visiting Kauai. The views are incredible and the food is good. The buffet is the best value because it includes everything-made to order eggs, waffles, pancakes, fruit, breakfast meats, juice, coffee, etc.
The absolute best view of Hanalei Bay for dinner in Princeville. We enjoyed it so much we came back a 2nd time. What makes it even more special is that the food and service match the ambience. The brined pork chop and macadamia nut crusted mahi are wonderful. The grilled romaine salad and crab cakes were perfect Appetizers. Our request to split the salad was easily executed. The whole dinner experience was beyond perfect.
My wife and I enjoyed breakfast here on 10/30/17. We have been traveling to Kauai for over 35 years and decided to celebrate that by having a wonderful meal and enjoying the world class view of Hanalei Bay. Food was excellent and wait staff were attentive without being overbearing. I recommend the Makana Terrace without hesitation!
Very disappointed to see the deterioration here vs 3 years ago - unbelievably beautiful view and very nice hotel, but much else went wrong. Firstly showing up for a reservation on time and standing around for 15 minutes waiting to be seated without any apologies is poor anywhere, let alone at a premium location. The menu is extremely limited - if you don't eat pork or shellfish there's little to enjoy. The wine list is more limited than our local Chinese restaurant. And to top it off the rare Ahi was not fresh as we both can attest from the undesirable after-effects. All this for $100/head. So sad to see this place go - I booked for two dinners but canceled the second after this unpleasant experience.
