All of us enjoyed our dishes. Prompt service as well. Really close to NJPAC so perfect restaurant to go to before or after a show.
Food is not great ..
Went there before a concert at the Prudential Center. While the food with a pre-fixe menu and service was very good the noise level was over the top. Several guests as well as ourselves had to cover our ears at times due to a group of 6 women, celebrating someone’s birthday and having no consideration for the guests sharing the same space.
Good l ok cation nearby NJPA C. Slightly better than average.
We had a terrible experience. We went early and were seated but the waiter did not take our food order for 30 minutes. And we were going to nj pac and had alloted 1 our and 20 minutes to get there on time. We still didn’t have our main dish at 7:30 and waiter said another 10 minutes. So we left but not before an unpleasant scene with the waiter/manager who said our order was last to go in. As though it was our fault, not theirs.
I would never go back. And it’s $45 price fixed so we were never going to be able to have dessert and coffee let alone dinner
Just a warning for people who are going across the street for a show at the pac
I must first acknowledge that Bill Clinton was speaking at NJPAC that evening, so we expected a crowded restaurant. We gave ourselves two hours but still found ourselves begging to pay our check just a few minutes prior to show time. The service from arrival to exit was horribly slow - it seemed that they were somehow unprepared to accommodate a full house. On top of that, my wife's tuna entree was horribly overlooked. They picked a bad night to have a bad night.
The "pre theater dinner" (NJPAC - Bill Clinton - April 11,2018) was a complete nightmare for patrons and employees alike. We got there at our appointed time of 6:00 and our main course arrived at 7:26. If my husband wasn't a diabetic we would have left. We have had dinner there many times before the speakers which starts at 8:00 sharp, and always had prompt service. I can't imagine that there were any good experiences last night.. We paid $251 for a dinner for four and had no time to eat or any recourse at all. There were NO apologies and not even a free drink. We will not be going there again - ever.
My friend and I went to Maize prior to attending the Speakers Series at NJPAC on a Thursday night. We had 4:30 reservations so were there early! We had the Asparagus Soup for an appetizer which was good. My friend ordered the NY Strip and was not impressed. It was a little tough. I had the Crabmeat stuffed Salmon which was delicious. It was a large piece of salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. The service was very good at the beginning since we were so early. Later, when it became busy, service tapered off. I guess this is to be expected. Almost every table was occupied. I think this is a nice place to go for a special occasion. I would go back.
Food was good. Crab cake was okay. Lamb chops were a good recommendation by our waiter. Chocolate cake was fair. Service was excellent. Wine was a very good value at 8.00 for a very good Sauvignon Blanc .
I took my wife out for the Bon Jovi concert around the block, the restaurant could use a sign on the hotel so you know where it is. the restaurant should have had more staff for service. they lost a lot of money in drinks because we didn't have a waiter really helping us. the restaurant was not full to the point they were over booked. they were just under staffed for a Saturday night with a concert going on around the block. food was good and the waiter was nice, décor was nice.
We have eaten there prior to a show. It as Thursday night and there was no fixed price mine prior to show. Had king crab legs and they were good. Definitely better than Nico over at the PAC
We had dinner before a concert. The service and the food were very good this time. At times, we have been there when the service was a bit slow. I wish they would bring back the pre-fixed menu before concerts.
The only benefit to eating at Maize was proximity to NJPAC! The crabcake was dried out, the lamb LOOKED great, but when sliced, was almost raw (I ordered medium rare). And the diet coke I ordered was watered down! Simply disappointing!
The website should note that only the pre fixed menu is available when there are shows at NJPAC. My group was expecting the full menu. I also called to say I was running late for my reservation & whoever answered just said ok and hung up and never got my name. Then we were chided by the host for being late. The food was very good.
I was a little taken back this time due to the fact that there was a fixed dinner menu being offered. Last time prior to the theater at njpac we were able to pick from the menu. When I made my reservation for this evening no one advised me that on the phone so as I sat down I had no option but to order off the menu requested just the dinner which ended up being another $6 more than it normally would have cost. I really enjoy the dining there but not when I'm forced to pick from a menu that has been set up by them I will ask next time.
I always make a reservation at Maize when I'm going to a show at NJPAC. Unlike some reviews I've read, I have never been late for a show and I've always been more than satisfied with the quality of the food and the service I've received.
I was there for a pre-concert dinner. We sat down an hour and 15 minuets before the show which was across the street. We ordered apps, wine and entree at the same time as I told the server we had a 7:30 curtain. Food was excellent but the service atrocious. Servers were very nice but our meal was brought out at 7:30 and we had to scarf down our $150 dinner. Thanks fir making us late to the show.
Eh....not a fine dining experience. Portuguese food was good slightly above average nothing amazing ....but have had better for less.
We had dinner at Maize before attending the NJPAC. They only had a pre-theater menu, nothing ala carte which was a drawback. the food was good but not outstanding. The service was good and it has a pleasant atmosphere. Will consider going again.
The chateaubriand was perfectly prepared and accompanied by fresh vegetables. They make a perfect Cosmo as well.
Three of us went there before an NJPAC performance. The food and service were very good and we had a comfortably paced meal and got to the show on time. Very convenient location and a very successful dining experience
The entrees were not hot, as if they had been sitting before bring served. Servers could have been a little more attentive. Overall, though, Maize is an excellent option for dining before going to a show at NJPAC
We waited a long time for our main course which then came out luke-warm, not hot. Otherwise food was very good.
Such a pleasant surprise to have dinner here before a NJPAC event. A festive atmosphere, and a reservation gaffe ( open table vs restaurant computer) led us to two seats at the bar. We were served by the Owners. A simply delicious sirloin burger ( actually two of them) and a piece of delicious lime cake shared was a perfect meal.
Highly recommend. And sit at the bar.
I eat out often and I had the rudest and most ignorant behavior ever from this restaurant. What a mess. If the owner is interested he can call me and I would be glad to go in more detail. To say the least we didn't stay. Sorry, but my experience was the very definition of bad customer service.
Service was horrible. Non attentive. Had to finish in time for a show at the performing arts center and they couldn’t get the food out fast enough. An hour and a half should be enough time for them to complete the meal and they failed. We asked two times to see a manager and none existed. Duck came out raw. Never coming back here.
They gave our table away even though we arrived 10 minutes ahead of time. The Trip Advisor review has already been posted..........
We decided to give this place a try even though many reviews were not complimentary... the food was EXCELLENT!!! However, the customer service is something that needs serious help. The waiter was less attentive than the bussers (in another review) but we had no issues until I received an email from Open Table later last night that the restaurant listed us as a no show reservation. I did advise OT that we did indeed keep the reservation and they apparently sorted that out. But here's the proof that customer service is lacking; we were seated as only the third occupied table at 6:00 PM so how difficult is it to check in a reservation properly???
I don't think I've ever written a bad reviw. But I'd have a hard time remembering a worse restaurant experience than this. We waited over an hour and never received our meal. We walked out in that we had an event to get to at NJPAC. We were one of three parties who left the restaurant without receiving their meals. The waiter was rude and unhelpful. The food, from what we could see, looked bland and uninteresting. If you're trying to grab a quick meal before seeing an event at NJPAC, you'd be far better off grabbing a slice of pizza around the corner. Never visit this restaurant.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation. We were going to a show and didn't want to be pressed for time.
We were seated immediately and the busboys brought bread and water within 2 minutes.
But even though I asked the busboys for help twice, it took 20 minutes for a waiter to appear. We watched people who had come after us get served but they ignored us.
After they took our order, it took another 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive.
Then another 10 minutes for the starter to arrive.
We ended up having to gulp our dessert and we missed out on coffee, since we had to leave to make our show.
Others were better served, so your mileage may vary.
The food was tasty, but my wife's fish was a little dry - no doubt from waiting for an eternity on the warmer before they bothered to bring it to us.
Very convenient to NJPAC. Went to this restaurant before a show there - service was so painfully slow that we had skip the last course in a 3 course pre-theater menu. Had to ask to see a menu multiple times, had to ask for our food multiple times, had to ask for the check multiple times, eventually asked to see the manager multiple times. To top it off, food was only adequate, and certainly not worth the price or the aggravation.
Service was beyond awful. Waited and hour and a half and had leave to make our show without having dinner. Nobody cared or even apologized.,,
I was somewhat apprehensive about making a reservation based on some of the recent reviewers on Yelp and Open Table. We reviewed the menu and my party of 3 agreed to go. We walked in and we were immediately seated. When I opened the menu it was a pre-fix menu and I was surprised. When I asked about it I was told that because of the events in town it is easier for them to have a pre-fix menu. Honestly - we adjusted quite well. The food was very good - garlic shrimp, New York strip, duck entrees! It was clean and the staff were most friendly. Definitely would come back....Happy we agreed to go. It was perfect walking distance to the Rock.
We went to Maize before an event at NJPAC at recommendation of a friend. Unfortunately, it did NOT live up to expectations. The food was mediocre at best considering the $45 pre-fixe. My tuna was cold and tasted very fishy (waiter didn't seem to notice that i left most of it on my plate). My wife had the duck and was suppose to get the breast and leg but only got the breast.
The desserts tasted store bought
Don't think we will be going back
I am never one to write negative reviews, but my experience warrants me to do so. We made reservations on Open Table for a romantic evening. I called to confirm and to ask for a quiet romantic table and got a VERY NASTY lady on the phone. When we arrived for dinner there was no one there to greet us or even seat us and after driving 45 mins to an hour we walk into a private party( with dj and casino tables that took up 75% -80% of the resturant. The same nasty lady was there and could care less that we were there and we expressed our disappointment that at no time did they tell us of this party and it wouldn't be a Quiet romantic evening as i expressed earlier on the phone. So disappointed we left and went to another resturant. I found out later the NASTY LADY is the owners wife. POOR management, Poor customer service and for an owner she should be ashamed of herself . I would NEVER go back to that resturant again and I will make sure to advise my friends and family to stay clear of this resturant. Maybe they need a refresher course in hospitality.
Service was terrible and food was not cooked to order. Waiter disappeared.
We came here for dinner prior to seeing a concert at NJPAC. Good choice for pre-show dining. Located across the street from NJPAC in a hotel. We parked at NJPAC and walked across the street to have dinner. Food was good - a little overpriced - however, we enjoyed our meal and drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good, convenient, pre-show dining. Service and atmosphere was pleasant - be sure to make a reservation - we made a 5:00pm reservation for a 7:30pm show and the timing worked out great - no rushing. By 6:00pm the restaurant was packed so be careful with your timing. Would go again prior to a show.
A group of friends ate dinner here before attending a show at NJPAC. Parking at the hotel/restaurant lot was problematic, possibly due to adjacent construction. The parking attendants at the hotel lot did not speak English very well and it was difficult to understand any info they could provide. One of the hosts at the restaurant also was not helpful in offering info about parking options. We were able to obtain parking in the underground garage but it costs $28.
The ambiance is upscale and overall the food was good but service was quite slow. Also, no wait staff came by to refill water glasses and did not return after serving the entrees to make sure all was okay. One of the beef entrees was not as ordered and it took time to get a waiter's attention. The stuffed tilapia serving was also quite small. Oddly, the shrimp sautéed in garlic sauce was served with rice and potato chips - but no vegetable.
It's convenient if attending a show at NJPAC but otherwise I wouldn't rush back.
I chose this restaurant because it was close to the NJPAC theater and we had a show to see. There seemed to be only one waiter working the entire restaurant so it took a while for the waiter to get to us and take our order. I ordered the Mariscada with green sauce however my dish came with the red sauce. The meal was served by one of the bussers. Since we were in a rush to catch our show I just ate the meal as is. When the waiter finally came back to check on us and I told him about the mistake he acted very unapologetic and blamed the cooks. He told me he entered the dish in correctly but the kitchen messed up. He did not apologize for the mistake or try to do anything to make up for it. Fortunately the bussers provided excellent service to make up for the waiter.
Bread, salad, entree, and dessert were good. Vegetables were not fresh or tasty.
Service was slow and inattentive. Perhaps they were short of staff on the floor/in the kitchen.
