What Insiders Are Saying
Maison Premiere is the coolest place in Williamsburg to eat oysters and drink cocktails.
Everything is perfect about this restaurant! I can’t believe someone would give this place less than 5 stars. Our server, Paris, was so nice and funny! She took the time to explain the menu and the service was really quick. The food was amazing! Try the beef tartare, it’s divine. The oysters were all fresh and good. We will come back for sure for our next NYC trip!
Killer wine selection. So happy their shellfsh towers are available at brunch.
Just gorgeous. The best cocktails I've had in a long time, and absolutely the best dessert (the cheesecake, oh my god. And the absinthe panna cotta, wow.) The half-lobster didn't have a ton of meat in it for $27, but that's what you get. Worth it for the ambiance alone, but everything was delicious and the service was attentive and outstanding.
The service is consistently good, courteous professional and very friendly!!!!! Romantic spot for sure but also good for get togethers and or just hang out.
Amazing service and had a great time! Never a disappointment when I come here
Dining in the garden was fantastic, my wife and I enjoyed it tremendously. Great spot for Oysters and Drinks anytime. Highly recommend for brunch.
Ee absolutely love this place!!!
shellfish allergy so this doesn’t pertain to their raw bar
Madison Premiere, in my personal opinion, is over-hyped and isn’t the end-all-be-all bar stop I had hoped for. Their beverage program won a James Beard award and while the drinks were decent, none of our rounds were anything close to memorable. We did two cocktails off their standard menu as well as two off their absinthe-based menu. Food was beautifully presented but again, nothing is remembered as standing out from the rest of the meal. The table they sat us at was lovely — in the back garden patio next to a small fountain and overlooking the lush greenery. The issue was that in July, there are mosquitos and our waitress was not expedientnat all with any part of her service. We ordered our second round and shortly thereafter decided to close out and get away from the bugs. We asked for the check and the waitress simply explained she would bring the check after our drinks were delivered, nevermind our napkin covered arms. Each drink consistently took over 15 minted from order to delivery, he food was delivered without a smile, nobody checked back to see if we were enjoying our selections. Honestly the service has left a bad taste in my mouth and I do not plan on a return reservation.
Love this place. They hit the right note on everything. Food. Service. Ambience. Decor.
Service is slow so expect to spend some time here, but the raw bar and cocktails make it worthwhile. The ambiance is great, especially for a date or small get-together. Note that there is no AC so it can get pretty humid in the restaurant during the summer.
The portion sizes were incredibly disappointing, the flavors were lackluster, the glasses were dirty, the service was mediocre, and the bill was extremely high. The food quality was okay, but with such small servings, there is no justification for the price -- unless the place is marketed as a tasting menu and 20 dishes are recommended. I was dining with friends who work in the industry, I myself am an organic farmer who sells to restaurants like MP. We are all familiar with quality dining experiences (and the overhead it costs for restaurants to provide these experiences). We are also not shy about spending $$ on high quality food in an atmosphere of true quality, service, and hospitality. However, we did not feel that we were spending our money at MP, we felt we were wasting it. Nothing about MP was satisfactory; we spent the meal discussing the lack of authenticity in the dining experience and the blatant greed of the restaurant management. Will the line cooks or servers see the profits from an overpriced half serving of salad? Likely not.
It was an incredibly disappointing experience, and I feel obligated to share, as MP seems to be the kind of place (aesthetically driven, pretentious, overpriced) that perpetuates a negative cycle of inaccessible yet largely mediocre New York City dining culture.
A total dining experience. Excellent food, environment and service- the whole package. A little Paris, a little New Orleans. Everything was great but don’t miss the crawfish etouffe - world class. Table side sazerac put it over the top.
Staff was rude with a couple sitting beside us that experienced an unfortunate event because of the manager’s blunder. The staff barely apologized neither offered a compensation to them.
Perfect 1st anniversary dinner!
Last Sunday night we sat in the garden for our anniversary dinner and it was a perfect evening. We started with some hand crafted cocktails which were beautifully presented, mine on a bed of blueberries and cranberries with a small bunch of fresh mint as garnish. We started with one of the seafood towers that had half a lobster, shrimp and oysters (we were lucky and our favorite Welfleet were one of the chef's choice) as well as a crab salad that was one of our favorite bites of the night. Then we had the hamachi crudo which was good, especially with the garnishes. The smoked mussels on baguette were rich and delicious with a nice drizzle of olive oil something I'm still thinking about. Finally, we had the crawfish etouffe which was spot on. It was nice to have a heartier dish after the lighter starters and the flavors strong without being too overpowering. We finished the dinner with an absinthe panna cottta which had a nice balance of flavors. A+ for the romantic garden atmosphere. It even has an awning that they rolled down as the weather started to turn and kept us dry during a quick shower. Thanks Maison Premiere!
Great ambiance and exceptional food and service at a decent price
Beautiful space and delicious food. Can't wait to come back or tell our friends about it!
We loved the overall experience and will definitely go back for the food, however, the service was pretty off... we order chef's tasting oysters and weren't told what they actually were. It was very nice of them, though, to give us a little card for our anniversary and a small dessert on the house.
Somewhat disappointed we told them it was my birthday and we got a sort of terrible table and no acknowledgement of my occasion. The table next to us was celebrating their anniversary and got a great larger table and a few acknowledgements of their anniversary. And our server said she was leaving for the day and then we saw her just serving other tables and our second waitress was far less attentive
We went to Maison Premiere for my birthday. When I made the reservation, I requested a table outside, weather permitting, and the receptionist said that would be OK. When we got to the restaurant, we learned that the outside area was closed for a private party. Instead we were given a tiny table in the bar area, which was very noisy and crowded. I asked for champagne and was given chablis. By way of explanation, the server said it was so noisy that she couldn't hear me. A lot of people working there looked vaguely terrified. I found the atmosphere very unpleasant and couldn't wait to get away. The food was good, but this place doesn't live up to the hype.
I cannot stress enough how over hyped this place is. We came for my birthday for a seafood plateau, expecting a lovely romantic evening. We knew something was off the second we walked in the door. One hostess was frazzled and dismissive as we tried to check in for our 8pm reservation at 7:50. We were told to stand on a corner and were not allowed to sit at two open bar stools at the bar... ok? We waited 15 minutes for a waitress to come (a second hostess had to track one down for us) and then another 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive.
Our table was tiny and shoved next to another one. We found ourselves killing time and ordering drinks far in advance knowing the time it takes for them to arrive. Finally our grand plateau arrived and to be quite frank, the quality was not good. My boyfriend and I both tried to reflect on if the bad experiences leading up were swaying our opinion, but as seafood lovers it was plain and simple. Briny oysters, crab that was not fresh, etc.
Long story short, this place is completely overrated and not worth the time or money. To be fair, our waitress was lovely and they brought out a complimentary panna cotta in a shot glass with a candle, which was sweet, but find somewhere with less frills and a better experience with good food. This restaurant reminds me of Portlandia if it were about Williamsburg.
Very Very cool choice i’ve made to celebrate A friends Birthday who loves Oysters/SeaFood. Nice atmosphere and a Beautiful Scene
We came here for my fiance's birthday. The drinks, the waitstaff, and host were incredibly nice and accommodating. Lovely atmosphere as well!
Ambiance à la française, bonne qualité des plats mais très cher pour ce que c'est
I had a great anniversary dinner with my girlfriend here. The service was professional and the food amazing. The trout is life changing.
The only criticism I would have is that we were seated at a tiny table for two that saw a lot of close-passing traffic.
If you are looking for an amazing night for an acceptable price, you will be hard pressed to find something better than Maison Premiere.
Literal perfection. The Royal Caroline is one of the best cocktails I've ever had.
Knowledge waiter. Excellent food. Outstanding deaign
Great food, great service, great everything...
Amazing and really excellent all around experience
Maison Premiere has drastically gone down the tubes. Once bestowing a full experience on diners, it now simply has good food, which doesn't make up for horrible service and indifference toward customers. I grew up in the hospitality industry; my partner works in the industry as well. We understand things don't always go smoothly & sh*t happens out of anyone's control. However, last night's experience was a complete disgrace. Reservation for 9PM with notes it's a special bday in the reservation. Finally seated at 9:42PM. While we sat at the chairs on the side of the bar, not one server brought us a menu or offered us drinks while we waited. The manager—a bearded gentleman with glasses, came over to tell us the people at our table had finished their meal, they were simply taking a while to leave. My partner asked him if we could get a server for drinks. He said yes, but did not send one our way. 10 minutes later, the hostess came up to us to inform us our table had just ordered dessert—a different story than what the manager told us. The least they could have done was send over 2 glasses of champagne or offer something to drink while we wait, on the house. Waiting 42 minutes for a bday dinner reservation is unacceptable, not to mention the nerve they have requiring a credit card to secure the reservation. It gets worse. We sit, they deliver the oysters before our champagne. Who has water with oysters? We sit there waiting 20 minutes to get the champagne. After oysters and champagne, the entrees come but we have to flag down a server to order wine to go with our mains, our food sits getting cold while we wait for wine. Then, they bring the desserts to a crumbed table w/no spoons, while I am in the bathroom. WTF? There is no sequence of service. There is no regard for customer's experience, no pre-empting. When my partner brought this up to the manager he just shrugged. The desserts were on the House, but by then the experience had been soiled. In short, never again.
Best selection of oysters and grower champagnes I have ever experienced. Knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere make this place hard to beat, particularly once the back patio is open in the warmer months. Can be very busy and load inside, but seats on the side by the back door a good place to be.
Lovely place, lovely food, great decor and music.
You must go there for the oysters, they have like 30 different kinds! The waitress was very knowledgeable on the selection and super sweet. I got the striped bass which was phenomenal. The crustless cheesecake was awesome too. If you enjoy oysters, seafood, and good drinks this is the place for you. The location and atmosphere was lovely as well.
Absolutely wonderful anniversary meal
Maison Premiere is the premier spot (pun intended) for oysters and creole cuisine in NYC. One of the greatest if not the best selection for oysters i've seen anywhere in the country. Drinks are incredible and inventive as well. My only complaint, as this has now been the case for 3 straight visits, is the service is slow. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable and nice, they just seem to have a slower pace about them. Drinks take way too long to come out (I understand how involved some of these cocktails are, but the 4 cocktails we ordered took nearly 15 min for each round). We will continue to come back, we'll just plan the rest of our days accordingly.
I love this spot. The oysters are awesome and beautifully presented. Can't go wrong there.
We also got some absinthe which was delicious (they have a pretty extensive selection) and a perfectly executed dirty martini. The staff is lovely and courteous.
We got a great corner table, Maison Premiere is always a pleasure.
Everything was incredible
We flew from Dallas for my wife's birthday to dine here. And I must say that the staff and the ambiance was even better than my expectations. AND my expectations were HIGH. It was so delightful. We travel a lot and this location is definitely a do-not-miss quaint location. The food was delicious and tasty. Our compliments to the kitchen. The benevolent service came from everywhere. It started at the host stand and lasted all evening long. The server was fanatic and the bussers were attentive at every turn. We recommend this restaurant for all even those we choose it for her birthday celebration. Keep up the amazing work!!!
I've been wanting to come here for a while and it didn't disappoint. Nice people watching, good oysters, clean seafood. It was a nice experience. I have to say that the service really took the experience to the next level. Everyone we interacted with was so polite and lovely, it was really a treat. A bit on the pricey side but don't bother with a raw bar if value is what you're after. I'll definitely be back.
Thouroughly enjoyable brunch! Fabulous bartender, who kindly gave me a crash course on absinthe! The shrimp and grits , and poached eggs with oysters and caviar, were delicious. The next visit will consist of oysters, and an option from the extensive, but not overwhelming, wine list. Superb service and ambiance.
I really love the place! The atmosphere is like... 1920's France. The space isn't great for big groups as it is small and table seating is limited. The bar takes up much of the restaurant- meaning if you are in a group of 1-3 you will likely be sat there- it's actually my favorite place to sit, even for dinner.
The food is tasty, especially the shellfish. Everything is fresh, there are a ton of different types of oysters, and they have a "chef selection" if you don't feel like picking your own or don't know what kinds of oysters you like. The drinks are equally good, if not better. This place is know for it's Absinthe menu- they have about 30 different types- and their signature cocktails. The cocktails are creative, with exciting (and sometimes unexpected) combinations of ingredients, they look beautiful and taste just as good. If you want to try absinthe - they serve it the (I think?) traditional way with water and sugar cube- and the bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable and can explain tastes, helping you pick and try different types.
The people who work the door are very nice and accommodating. As for the bartenders and servers, they are a mixed bag- the first time we came and sat at the bar our service was amazing, above and beyond expected. The bartender walked us through the absinthe menu even though the restaurant was insanely crowded and busy. He was personable, kind, and a genuine pleasure to be around- he made the evening! However the second time we dined at the bar, we had a different bartender who was knowledgeable but was not interested in sharing information or really interacting at all- kind of arrogant. He somewhat ignored us and it was hard to get his attention when were were ready to order food or drinks- just very standoffish even when it wasn't at the busiest.
Overall this place is amazing! I highly recommend it! Make reservations- it's so busy! Hopefully the not-great service was just a one-time thing/ maybe he was having a bad night!
