"We are two food and wine loving French New Yorkers who are bringing an exciting restaurant to Harlem, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the borough."
There were only 2 young women serving the entire restaurant during brunch on a Sunday afternoon and the place was as pack as COVID regulations allow. It took forever to get a glass of water. It took even longer to get coffee and it was cold—even when I brought it to the wait staff's attention and they brought me a 2nd cup, which was also cold :-( After waiting for 40 minutes, I gave up and left. They need more staff if they plan to pack the place.
love this place. Great service and excellent food.
We sat outside for dinner and despite the windy day, we had a pretty nice time! It was a birthday celebration for my husband and we just happened to be visiting my daughter in Harlem so we decided to stay and eat out instead of heading home to NJ. For an appetizer, we shared a large order of tender P.E.I. Mussels, Mariniere which came with French Fries which were delicious. I actually could have eaten more of the fries! My husband had the Hudson Valley Duck Magret (he loves to try duck and thought was good but not the best he's had) and my daughter and I shared the Seafood Croustillant and the Wild Mushroom Risotto (absolutely delicious). We also had a bottle of the Domaine Pélaquié Côtes du Rhône, 2017, Rhône Valley, France which was very satisfying for all of us despite the variation in food. We were way too full for dessert so passed on that course. Overall we enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back again!
Tasty drinks and food. More on the expensive side. But, still worth a trip.
the food was great. The ambience also great. However, I hate it when the waitress has so many tables that one waits literally 10 - 15 minutes from the time you ask for something till you receive it. Why, for example, did I have to wait 10 minutes for a check and then I had to physically walk into the restaurant to find the waitress to pay it because she did not return for at least 10+ minutes. That is simply unacceptable. It took what was a great experience and made it bad. Too bad - nice place and nice restaurant with good food.
Waiter was not attentive at all and the food was over priced for its quality and size.
The food was excellent, as it always is. Coq au vin and duck are so good! With the combination of live music, street noise and shouting diners at nearby tables it was often hard to hear our conversation. And the people at the next table had their toddler climbing on the divider between our tables, so not great social distancing, although I realize that’s hard for the restaurant to enforce. If it were a little less expensive, we’d go there more often rather than just special occasions.
Great servicers, good food and delicious Date. We both ordered a different dish and both dishes were amazing in flavor and presentations. We will go back.
How is a wonderful experience the staff is excellent friend leave the food is fabulous and it’s kind of like being in Paris eating outdoors now
The food was amazing. The service was wonderful.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of street noise on a Saturday night - nothing that the restaurant could really control.
Great night! Perfect for outdoor seating with covid as they have a lot of tables and a great set up. Definitely busy and could probably use more staff but even though you could tell our waiter was busy he was great! Would definitely recommend!
Food was delicious, customer service on point and outdoor seating was comfortable!
I love this restaurant and bar. Because of Covid-19, we ate outside, o the noise level (which was minimal), was not typical. The food is typical French bistro food, nicely done, and general atmosphere is wonderful A perfect neighborhood restaurant.
Steak was raw and drowned in sauce. Terrible.
Great brunch/lunch food options, could use a few more different brunch cocktail options. Will definitely go back!
Everything was great from the food to the service. Def recommend the mushroom risotto!
Wonderful! One of my favorites!
Excellent Paris bistro fare in an energetic environment with very friendly staff.
Food is good but service left so much to be desired it takes away from appreciation for food. I will give a little break to servers because of current situation but they appear disorganized. Food takes too long to come out. Given the length of time food takes, servers should be attentive and ask about a second round of drinks and bread.
When we arrived, we saw a waiter setting up tables. We waited patiently (7 minutes or so) before I had to interrupt him. The waiter finally addressed us. I informed him of the reservation. He flicked his hand and said “sit wherever.” We washed our hands and returned to the table. We waited 20 minutes while the same waiter and another waiter dressed tables and argued about something. Finally, I asked for a menu. The second waiter, provided menus. After another 15 mins, we left. It appeared as if the first waiter avoided looking at us to not serve us. I don’t even it take it personally but I feel that something something about us triggered him. Either way, I wouldn’t know if the food was good or not. Other patrons were siting with drinks an they seemed to be having a lovely time
Our server was top notch, could tell he was extremely busy but still managed to be attentive and have fun with us.
Great food Me and my girl came here for date night first time, wait was a lil crazy we didn’t know where to or who to check in with, we were able to speak with waiter walking past and he let us know it would be a wait, we order drinks and waited to be seated times are crazy right now so just grab a drink and sip and wait patiently after being seating it did take some time for our wait to come to our table and take our order But He was working HARD sweating so again No big deal Lolz we was able to but our order in, wait time for food was about 20 mins, again Friday night busy... THE FOOD IS WORTH THE WAIT I had the carbonara and Crab shrimp cakes MADDDDD GOOD. My girl had the salon and mashed which was a light meal perfect for summer I would suggest this place, just keep in mind wait time might be up there, Grab a drink and chill it’s worth the wait 💯
My waiter was wonderful! He was so attentive and professional. The drinks he made was really good.
Restaurant decor was nice for outdoor dining. Everything was great until it rained and almost ruined the meal.
Always having good time and good time anytime!
Greatest bar in Manhattan, excellent cuisine, greatest staff ever, best music, it’s the place!!
The staff was very attentive.
After dining and drinking at Maison Harlem for years, my last experience brings this review, and that I'll never return. I arrived in advance of my party for our 7p dinner reservation and waited patiently at the bar, making my presence known but never interrupting the bar tenders. When I was finally acknowledged I asked for the happy hour wine and was told that it was 7p sharp and happy hour just finished! I said that I had obviously been waiting at the bar, and certainly arrived while happy hour was still going on, and a 2nd bar tender said to me that she called last call before I arrived and that's that.
This inhospitable behavior tainted the entire evening for me and while I enjoyed spending time with my friends over dinner, I'm done with Maison Harlem - way too many choices and I don't need to spend my money to be treated poorly.
Fun atmosphere but nearly impossible for conversation as music is loud — and quite good — but near-continuous.
This is a go to restaurant for us. We love the food and ambiance. That said, the last time we were there, they had a live band. The music was great, the musicians were talented, but they were a bit loud. We could not carry on a conversation at our table. Not a deal breaker but something for the restaurant to think about. The space is very small and a loud band makes conversations hard.
The food was delicious. Thank you. the salmon was very well seasoned.
one thing is, since Maison Harlem is branded as a french restaurant, it would be nice and expected to play french music. We want the experience, give it to us in full. whether music from France or french Africans or french Caribbeans, we want that. ... Thanks
Our food was excellent, drinks were generously made and nice tasting. Overall great experience.
Pretty good but forgot the drinks and charged us...and service was slow
Very good food and service. Thoroughly enjoyable. We definitely recommend this restaurant.
Perfect place amazing food super dessert
From the time we were seated the experience was phenomenal. Unfortunately, there was a very public, loud, scene at the bar that greeted us as soon as we entered Masion. We would have left if it was 9:00 pm on Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, the food and service was exceptional the rest of the evening.
Valentine's at Maison Harlem, booked ahead. BUT, we go here *very* often. Our very favorite Harlem neighborhood hang. The romantic decorations were over the top: red roses, baby's breath, shiny hearts & dots on every table, hearts balloons. Every one there knew they picked a perfect 10 and we were all festive. Mushroom Risotto (with added grilled seafood) and Grilled Salmon were superb, as always. Added the lemon tart. Our server Petit went along with our pace, and all our neighboring patrons were warm, friendly, lively and happy. The vibe here is always the best: the bar and its staff, the music, lovely welcoming hostess, ambiance, decor, red booths, service, wine list, food. It's our secret place, but please join us any time! Just book ahead on Open Table. They absolutely honor our reservation times, every time, even on Valentine's! For diverse singles, all ages, you will definitely make friends here, if you wish to engage. ❤
We visited on Valentine's evening. It didn't start well.
We ordered cocktails and the waiter also took our food order. The first course came at least ten minutes before the drinks. The food was cold and just ok. However, the main courses were excellent.
Cassoulet was just about perfect and the Dorade was superb. The wine came at the right time and was very good as well as affordable.
We opted for a cheese course in place of dessert and it was very good and a substantial portion of five cheese. A second wine came which was recommended by the waiter and it was a great pairing. We all liked the vibe. It's tight and noisy but really fun. We'll come back for sure.
My husband and I had a wonderful early dinner on Wednesday night. The friendly and positive atmosphere, especially in the bar, was contagious and we couldn't help but leave with a smile on our face. We'll definitely return with friends for a midweek dinner and stay long enough to listen to the live band. Food was good and service very attentive!
