Greatest bar in Manhattan, excellent cuisine, greatest staff ever, best music, it’s the place!!
The staff was very attentive.
After dining and drinking at Maison Harlem for years, my last experience brings this review, and that I'll never return. I arrived in advance of my party for our 7p dinner reservation and waited patiently at the bar, making my presence known but never interrupting the bar tenders. When I was finally acknowledged I asked for the happy hour wine and was told that it was 7p sharp and happy hour just finished! I said that I had obviously been waiting at the bar, and certainly arrived while happy hour was still going on, and a 2nd bar tender said to me that she called last call before I arrived and that's that.
This inhospitable behavior tainted the entire evening for me and while I enjoyed spending time with my friends over dinner, I'm done with Maison Harlem - way too many choices and I don't need to spend my money to be treated poorly.
Fun atmosphere but nearly impossible for conversation as music is loud — and quite good — but near-continuous.
This is a go to restaurant for us. We love the food and ambiance. That said, the last time we were there, they had a live band. The music was great, the musicians were talented, but they were a bit loud. We could not carry on a conversation at our table. Not a deal breaker but something for the restaurant to think about. The space is very small and a loud band makes conversations hard.
The food was delicious. Thank you. the salmon was very well seasoned.
one thing is, since Maison Harlem is branded as a french restaurant, it would be nice and expected to play french music. We want the experience, give it to us in full. whether music from France or french Africans or french Caribbeans, we want that. ... Thanks
Our food was excellent, drinks were generously made and nice tasting. Overall great experience.
Pretty good but forgot the drinks and charged us...and service was slow
Very good food and service. Thoroughly enjoyable. We definitely recommend this restaurant.
Perfect place amazing food super dessert
From the time we were seated the experience was phenomenal. Unfortunately, there was a very public, loud, scene at the bar that greeted us as soon as we entered Masion. We would have left if it was 9:00 pm on Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, the food and service was exceptional the rest of the evening.
Valentine's at Maison Harlem, booked ahead. BUT, we go here *very* often. Our very favorite Harlem neighborhood hang. The romantic decorations were over the top: red roses, baby's breath, shiny hearts & dots on every table, hearts balloons. Every one there knew they picked a perfect 10 and we were all festive. Mushroom Risotto (with added grilled seafood) and Grilled Salmon were superb, as always. Added the lemon tart. Our server Petit went along with our pace, and all our neighboring patrons were warm, friendly, lively and happy. The vibe here is always the best: the bar and its staff, the music, lovely welcoming hostess, ambiance, decor, red booths, service, wine list, food. It's our secret place, but please join us any time! Just book ahead on Open Table. They absolutely honor our reservation times, every time, even on Valentine's! For diverse singles, all ages, you will definitely make friends here, if you wish to engage. ❤
We visited on Valentine's evening. It didn't start well.
We ordered cocktails and the waiter also took our food order. The first course came at least ten minutes before the drinks. The food was cold and just ok. However, the main courses were excellent.
Cassoulet was just about perfect and the Dorade was superb. The wine came at the right time and was very good as well as affordable.
We opted for a cheese course in place of dessert and it was very good and a substantial portion of five cheese. A second wine came which was recommended by the waiter and it was a great pairing. We all liked the vibe. It's tight and noisy but really fun. We'll come back for sure.
My husband and I had a wonderful early dinner on Wednesday night. The friendly and positive atmosphere, especially in the bar, was contagious and we couldn't help but leave with a smile on our face. We'll definitely return with friends for a midweek dinner and stay long enough to listen to the live band. Food was good and service very attentive!
It was my moms 70th birthday. The restaurant followed all the directions I added to my reservation and they were so attentive and I was greatly appreciative of how smoothly the evening went.
Always have a great experience at Mason Harlem. One of the best French spots in Harlem.
Total surprise full delight. Can't wait to go back and work our way through the menu.
Maison Harlem never disappoints. It's a staple of the community and a destination for those of us who have had to move away over the years.
I'd encourage first-time visitors to consider that the space gets quite crowded on the busier weekend nights but is cozy and quiet mid-week.
No matter what day you choose the food is exceptional, the drinks generous, the staff professional and the clientele includes some of Harlem's finest.
Not to be missed!
Lively, welcoming, good vibes and lovely people. The host is always dressed in his sartorial best. Classic French and nice brunch. No surprises. You will come back over and over again if you’re in the know and if you are a visitor, you don’t want to miss out.
Nice touches: old album covers as menu covers. Music at just the right decibel level. Plenty of cozy booths.
Somehow this place makes you excited and comfortable at the same time.
A real gem.
Easy going / special place
So great to find a new spot in Harlem with great food, wonderful service, good wine by the glass, and bonus, live music tonight. Thanks you, Maison Harlem, for a lovely evening
Never ceases to delight! I’ve been here four times now, and each time is better than the next. I’m a couscous fanatic from my time spent living in Paris and traveling in Morocco, and they hands down have the best couscous in NYC! The magret, cassoulet, steak frites, burger, and frisée lardon are all excellent, the staff are all lovely, ans the vibe is great.
Love this place. The food is amazing. However, the night we went there was live music. The singer was amazing but it was WAY TOO LOUD. It was just stupid. Even when the singer took a break, the recorded music as extremely loud. I just don’t get it. What should have been a relaxing evening was frustrating and disappointing.
The food was incredible. Mac and Cheese, Shell Steak, Burger - all delicious and delivered relatively quickly.
Downside was that we were sat 45 min after our reservation but they made up for it with a comped glass of wine for both my partner and I. Truly appreciate the effort the host made to improve our experience.
Fun place, great vibe, just feels like a lot is happening and that patrons are having a good time. Food is great too! Love the onion soup. But the escargot are served too hot - almost boiling - the butter has practically turned to oil.
Bar was lively - a little tight during Happy Hour, which is probably a good thing. Decor is excellent, love the record covers as menu sleeves, great wine list. Our waiter Stephan was terrific and our food was delicious . I had the Mahi Mahi special, my friend had the seafood risotto - tasty and perfect portions. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Fantastic food, service and vibe!! Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable!
I've been going to Maison Harlem for years, and it never disappoints.
On a Sunday night, the music started ramping up around 6p which created a move lively vibe.
I think for the first time I had the cassoulet (one of my favorite dishes), and it was excellent. Others had chicken & fish, and everyone was happy with his/her meals. We started with raw oysters, and they had small ones, so we were happy campers.
the risotto was delicious, as was the tartare. A solid spot for sure, will be back.
