A farm to table philosophy serves as the foundation for all of the items on the menu at Maison Giraud in Pacific Palisades, CA. This can best be seen by the Wednesday menu created around all of the freshest items available at the nearby Santa Monica Farmers� Market.
With a baker and dining room, options on the Maison Giraud menu include breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert selections. There is a fantastic wine list as well, with everything pairing perfectly with the foods available. Examples of choices at Maison Giraud include the signature flat tart full of fresh vegetables, the watermelon gazpacho, the duck filet with apricot, baby turnips, spring onions and orange gastrique, or the chicken Catherine with pearl onions, purple potato, broccolinis, bacon and garlic jus.

I will be very sad to see this restaurant leave the Palisades . The food is really special and not of the garden variety of foods you so often find . Everything is well prepared with a good presentation .
The ambiance allows for a nice classy place to meet with people and be able to talk without shouting . I wish everyone all the best, wherever you may decide to go .
This restaurant is closing down in July for renovation. Food is good as usual. Our rib eye steak special was a bit tough with many tendons. The duck was perfectly cooked.
This was my second visit to the restaurant. Food and service are excellent!
Would love to again any time soon .
They refused to honor our reservation.
We had another delicious dinner at Giraud. We took friends who had never been there before, and they loved it too. Every dish was terrific. The presentation was great.
The oysters were a small local species from Baja California, rather than others from the northwest, east coast, or PEI - all of which have been better. Once served, the service was
inattentive, e.g., trying to order more bread, dessert and coffee.
We have dined at Maison Giraud several times. The food is still good, but at last Sunday’s visit, the service had deteriorated to the point of awful.
A previous waiter was excellent. Now there is some seedy French guy who does not listen and is a bit lacking in honesty. I had to tell him three times we did not want a chocolate soufflé. I asked that my duck entrée be “not pink.” It came out quite pink. Undercooked poultry is seriously unhealthy.
When I received the check, I noticed that this entrée was billed at $2 above the menu listed price.
Undercooked and overpriced. While this restaurant may gain an extra dollar or two, it may not be in business long if it persists in petty scams of this sort.
The cocotte was a veal shank, which was delicious. Our party also enjoyed the scallops, the chicken and the sirloin, all of which were excellent.
The "Ribeye Medallion" was closer to a tough piece of round steak. It should have been used for Hamburger.
We were not disappointed ! Had a very enjoyable evening with excellent food and wine pairing ! The salmon was really cooked to perfection ...the delicate mise-en-bouche, watermelon gazpacho just perfect. This is an excellent table, recommend it to everyone.
Place is nothing to write home about in the evening- very run of the mill square room with somber lighting. The menu was very uneventful for what is supposed to be a special neighborhood restaurant. Maybe catered for simpler palettes. Snooty waiter had a hard time giving his opinion on one dish over another and insisted it was really for us to decide! Well! My husband asked for a bucket to keep the wine bottle cool. It took a couple of times to get it which was just "dumped" on the table not bothering to put the bottle in it. Not very French!
We went for dinner. I think lunch or brunch is their specialty and give better impression given you can sit outside although view is on construction site in progress.
I'm torn about Maison Giraud.
The food is good, sometimes very good (like the duck fillet) and so too is the service, both better than you can find in many an LA eatery.
I know what Alain Giraud, chef & owner of Maison Giraud, can do.
I was a huge fan of Anisette, the phenomenal restaurant in Santa Monica he helped envision and was master chef at. At Anisette every meal, and I mean every meal, and I ate there many, many dozens of times, was always filled with surprise and delight. The food was fantastic, the extra touches from presentation to details in preparation excelled, and the décor and atmosphere was such that you could truly believe you were in France for a few hours. And if you were lucky Alain would step out of the kitchen, smiling from ear to ear, lord of all he surveyed, and stop by your table, shake hands, banter a bit and absorb the adulation of the dinners who so admired this magician of the kitchen.
And when I eat at Maison Giraud, these memories come back, and I'm a little disappointed.
Because at Maison Giraud the dishes aren't as special, as magical, as filled with surprise and delight. They seem to have been simplified down, blander, more generic… And maybe this is out of necessity. Maybe this is what the Palisades crowd demands: Predictability, fresh quality ingredients, and nothing outside their comfort zone.
I know another Alain Giraud, one that is truly a masterful magical wizard of great cuisine. A chef who will dazzle you with hyper-traditional French cuisine the way you wish your French grandmother made it, as well as being fully capable of delicious culinary spectacle. A man whose gregariousness is as infectious as is his smile.
And I miss him. Hopefully he will be back soon.
The food is clean, excellent, never boring, high quality, and always consistent!
Food was ok, just Fair, needed to use lots of salt and pepper, seemed like there was no taste and i had short-ribs special ........ Appetizers $$ overpriced !! Desserts, also rather pricey, Souffle was good but i can make a good one too (and the whipped cream tasted terrible )

Wonderful, authentic French cuisine, based on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, BUT the completely inattentive service ruined the evening for us. We could have served ourselves. No one seemed to care! So out of whack with the quality of the food and ingredients! Real disappointment, as our other experiences there had been stellar.
The place was full, one meal was served to all,5 courses $75.00 including one glass of champagne,$45.00 more for the next 2 glasses????You might think that they could get one meal right, but NO.
Amuse Bouche,Crab Roulade= Tough almost frozen wrapped in rice paper could not cut with a knife,mild crab taste,Gelee=nice tart berry taste,next time leave off the rice paper.
Main Scallops raviolis= 3 scallops lightly cooked and cut to allow caviar inside,mushy caviar,very tasty passion fruit emulsion.
Wild Halibut w/fennel= halibut was dried out, overcooked,sauce was very nice.
Veal Filet w/forest mushrooms=This was the worst dish of all,nice thick tenderloin but it could not be cut with the supplied steak knife,I could not finish the meat,again a very flavorful sauce,mushrooms=great.
Dessert,Napoleon w/red berries=Best part of the meal,would order this again.
Mignardises=3 tiny, tiny madalaines, no imagination here.
Whoever is in charge of the sauces did great job, but the person who prepared the proteins should be fired for not paying attention to his work.

Very limited menu. Chicken was very dry and hard to eat. Shrimp special was very good.

My date ate his first course painfully slowly, causing my scallops to arrive a bit burnt. The waiter immediately replaced my entire entree and I was satisfied.
Perfection. Felt like I was in Provence.
My steak was tough and grizzly but everyone else loved their meals. We'll definitely try again.
We visit Maison Giraud nearly every Sunday for a delicious brunch. We love to sit on the patio along side the Palisades Farmer's Market and we almost always see friends there. Most of the staff are bilingual so it's especially fun if you speak French.
But back to the dinner that prompted this review...We went on Valentine's Day. Each course on the menu was superb. The ingredients were fresh - from the Farmer's Market! The presentation was beautiful and the service was excellent. I did not want the dinner to end.
We eat at Maison Giraud frequently and it is always a pleasure. However, the set menu for Valentine's Day at $90 per person was not up to the usual standards. Amuse Bouche - a tiny piece of smoked salmon with little peppers, choice of salads - okay, choice of next course - lobster bisque (a bit thin) and mushroom ravioli, main course, chicken or Arctic char. We had the char, just okay and no choice of dessert, a cake with some fruit. All in all, nothing special and not as good as usual.
Nice little place, but the food is overpriced with not that varied a menu. The service was ok, but slow, waited often for server to come by. It's quiet, a nice spot for romantic dinner, but overall kind of average if you're looking for a great French restaurant or menu. Wine selection is modest.
We have eaten frequently at this restaurant. However, they really outdid themselves on New Years Eve. A prix fixe menu that was well thought-out and not overwhelming. Something for everyone. An excellent lobster risotto and a well-prepared Loup de Mer. Really good work!
We have dined at the Maison Giraud nearly since it first opened. In the past year, we have seen the quality of the cuisine decline. New Years Eve dinner there a few years ago was a delight; this year it was like the chef was just going through the motions.
We've dined as Maison Giraud a handful of times. Our last experience was particularly nice. The food was very good, service very good (as usual) and overall we had a better-that-normal experience this time. We will be back.
Over the years, I have consistently enjoyed M. Giraud much more for dinner than for lunch. The service, which is very attentive and friendly at night, is much less caring at noon. During lunch, there are times when not the hostess, any waiter, or even a bus boy is on the floor, and coffee is not offered. The menu for lunch is very limited. When M. Giraud himself comes out during dinner, he greets his friends with hugs while ignoring all the other patrons without so much as a smile.

The food was only exceeded by the service. A real neighborhood gem tucked away in the Palisades Village. Extraordinary flavors, exceptional service and ambiance. Our second time there and we can't wait to return.
We always enjoy our food and the ambiance at Maison Giraud. Having recently been to many of the new hip places on the west side, where the noise level is deafening and the food is thrown on the table by whomever happens to be walking by, we particularly appreciated actually being able to hear our guests and being served by someone with know-how. Giraud always delivers.
Maison Giraud is an authentic French restaurant with a legit chef. In particular, the vegetables are always amazing! And don't forget the Chocolate Souffle. Favorite dishes are Scallops, Halibut, Steak Frites, whatever risotto they are serving.

The best croissants in Los Angeles. Perfect for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is ok but not competitive for what other places can offer in terms of price and choices. Great atmosphere. Good waiters. Good wine. The night with oysters is one of my favorite food events.
though we enjoyed the food A LOT it's a shame that because of poorly trained, insolent greeter, seater/waiter/maitre d' would be reason enough to steer clear and to advise the same to friends. we actually really loved our food. started with charcuterie platter and cheese plate. all delicious. my husband had the trout and I had the 'special' chicken. chicken so moist, flavorful with potato dauphinois I ate in 2 bites. would've asked for more but no one came to check on our progress. what is offensive is when we arrive before 6 to an almost empty restaurant and try to sit in a corner table clearly a 4 top, only 2 of us but farthest away from the 2 occupied tables each with 2 children under the age of 5. no we couldn't because the restaurant was fully committed and yet during our meal no less than 3 parties of 2 were seated at 4 top tables.
the blatant rudeness of this act alone is enough for a lifetime ban. oh and not to neglect naming names, guillame was the party involved in making us feel so unwelcome.
we'll eat somewhere else next time. email me when he is gone.
Cocotte served on the edge of cold. Pomme frites showed up for dessert. No attention between serving to alert the missing side. And not very busy. Expect more attentive service at expensive eatery.
