Maison Blanche Ratings and Reviews
Hadn’t visited Maison Blanche in a few years and it was even better than we’d remembered!
Superb food, impeccable service - all one could ask for!
A true dining experience!
Can’t wait to return on our next visit to the area.
Highly, highly recommended!
It felt as though we were back in France. The special bites provided in addition to our menu selections were FANTASTIC and the wine pairings we requested of our server were FABULOUS! A true gem and in our opinion EVERY BIT AS GOOD as Beach Bistro. You must try!
many visits to this fine restaurant and the service has always been 5 stars. The menu is limited ( no salad as an example) for ala carte? The food is excellent. The actual restaurant is located in a condo complex with drapes around the room. It works however. The wines are a great bargain.
We have tried to go to Maison Blanche several times, but it never worked out. We are very glad we persevered. The food was outstanding, as was the service. The décor is a little dated, probably meant to be 60s elegant. But we don't care about the décor. And LBK is full of people in their 70s and 80s, who probably think it is just right. The restaurant is pretty expensive, but it is still high value. We definitely will return when we have a special occasion.
We were very excited about trying this restaurant due to all the fantastic reviews here. We were expecting Michelin Star; James Beard level service and quality – meaning we would receive a memorable experience where the food is full of interesting flavors, textures, and is beautifully plated. Sadly, this was not what we experienced. I’ll start with service then move through the offerings.
Service: We were seated promptly, but had to prompt the waiter several times that we wanted to order wine then have it brought out. The service takes a long time – The entrée arrived one hour after seating. Whilst we waited our table was not cleared nor water and wine refreshed.
The bread was very good and warm out of the oven and was circulated twice, which was sufficient for us.
The Prix Fixe menu provides more options and you can substitute any appetizer or entree not included on the Prix Fixe with an upcharge. Rock shrimp lacked flavor, basically little cold cocktail shrimp. Foie gras was prepared well and had a decent flavor, but not impressive for the $29 price point.
Suckling Pig – we knew not to expect the same presentation we have encountered in Spain . This was pulled pork wrapped in I think bacon, though I’m sure it was supposed to be the skin… no flavor, tough, dry – not even good pulled pork. The presentation on this one was very disappointing - simply look at the pictures and make your own judgement.
Rack of Lamb – For $58 I had high expectations. Lamb was cooked perfectly. crispy potatoes executed well. Lamb was flavorless, no spice or herb rub, no pomegranate reduction.
We ended up rushing through desert so I am not going to comment on that portion as I don’t know we had a solid representation of what would be offered.
The total meal was $208.65 and not worth the price point - There wasn't a single serving that was creative, original, interesting, tasty or provided a memorable experience other than being a waste of time and money.
We were disappointed that the for the ala carte menu we were prohibited from ordering a salad. The ala carte menu has appetizers and main courses but if you want a salad you're forced to order from the Pre Fixe menu. A very odd business practice. For such a fancy expensive place you'd think they'd make some accommodation. We had the crab appetizer, the size of a small tootsie role was served plainly without much presentation. The Salmon was good and a decent size but by the time we got to the middle it was a little under cooked but edible. The waiter was pushing a French Chablis when we asked for an oaky Chardonnay. The California Chard was a good one. So with a couple of glasses of wine, one entre and an appetizer and tip it was $95. Overall a disappointment. Maison Blanch doesn't compare to a place like the Beach Bistro on Ana Maria where you don't mind paying for quality, quantity, presentation and location.
We enjoyed celebrating our 38th anniversary at this restaurant. The owner's son was our waiter and he was an excellent server as was his assistant. He gave us a desert for our anniversary. Everything was excellent from the wine to the appetizers to the entree.
This was my birthday dinner courtesy of my loving wife. We have been full time residents of Sarasota for over two years. Although the food scene is good, I can't say it is great. Maison Blanche is an example.
Read the reviews, you think you are going to have an excellent dining experience. I must say our first visit didn't quite meet our admittedly high expectations.
The starter (octopus) and dessert (chocolate soufflé) were excellent. The entrée (sweetbreads) was a BIG disappointment. No flavor and rather tough. I told our server it was a comment, not a complaint and he had nothing. I must say his overbearing French accent did not help things. Kind of got the impression that he might have thought I didn't know what I was talking about or, even worse, don't know fine cuisine when I taste it.
So...try it. Be prepared to pay for the experience and make up your own mind. We will try it again but will have lower expectations next time.
The best fine dinning place in the Sarasota area. Not the first time visiting and Maison Blanche is getting better as a French vine over years. Exceptional experience as always. I'm a big fan of octopus and you can always judge the place based on how octopus being cooked. The octopus was just amazing as everything else we ate.
This is the Florida gulf coast's best and perhaps only classical French restaurant. Others in the area a France inspired, but Maison Blanche is French cooking, very nicely executed.
We have tried to dine here before, but it is hard to get a table in season. As this is first Summer that MB has stayed open, we got lucky on a last minute trip to Sarasota/Longboat Key.
Meal started with a chilled vegetable soup amuse bouche, tomato tart and shrimp and eggplant appetizers, sautéed sweetbreads with braised endives for mains and very nice chocolate soufflés to finish. All perfectly prepared, nicely seasoned and sauced...what a one star Michelin would serve in France. Friendly, unpretentious service, some reasonable bottles on the wine list in a comfortable room all deserving of its strong reputation.
We'll be back.
It's off season in Sarasota so when we got there there was only 2 other couples in there. I was a bit nervous at the lack of patrons and the look of the outside of the restaurant which is attached to an average resort complex. Once inside the hostess was very friendly an seated the 4 of us at our table. The place is very nice inside and the bathrooms were spotless. My friend even commented how nice the hand soap was in the restroom. Now for the food experience. The server quickly took our drink order and brought out two selections of bread/rolls for the table. For appetizer we had the duck Foie gras and steamed octopus, both were amazing . My friend and I ordered the ribeye done medium rare with a side of the pepper sauce, mine with mashed potatoes and his with the vegetables. The girls ordered lobster and the short ribs. The server had my friend and I check the temperature of our steaks and they were perfect. We were each commenting how great our meal was. The steak was probably one of the best I have eaten out and the pepper sauce was superb. The hit of the night had to be the short ribs. In between appetizer and main course they brought out a cold soup in a shot glass . The soup was not for me but the girls loved it. For dessert we shared the apple tart and the pineapple desserts. There was nothing left on our plates.
Just when we finished our desserts they brought out a finishing touch of another small dessert in a shot glass with a small pistachio marshmallow and little cookie on a plate. We talked about our dinner the whole way home. Do not miss this place it was a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.
Celebrating my husband's birthday tonight with a party of seven. Everyone in my party loved their meal. The service was spectacular. My husband certainly felt special. The decor is simple yet elegant. I have eaten here in the past and consistently had a fabulous experience. For the level of food quality, decor and service the prices are as expected. $64.00 a person not including beverages.
Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Our dining experience was outstanding! We have been visiting Longboat Key for the last two weeks in July for the past fifteen years. We enjoy eating at all the fine restaurants in the Longboat Key and Sarasota area. Until this year Maison Blanche has always been closed several weeks during the summer. To our surprise we were able to make reservations and it was well worth the wait. Ok ow some may find Maison Blanche some what expensive but the caliber of dining and cuisine does deserve the pricing. We were served a complimentary chilled soup and housemade baguette and biscuits. We shared the Blue Crab
appetizer and the Fois Gras special appetizer with Parmesan Risotto and both had the Mediterranean Sea Bass with roasted spinach, a divine lemon caper sauce and tiny buttery croutons---Bon Appetite. We had Meringue Luzi Cream Raspberry for dessert---Delicious. They served complimentary small cocoa dusted chocolate truffle and petite serving of chocolate mousse. It was the best dining experience ever. I would truly recommend Maison Blanche for an unforgettable dining experience
and request Michelle as your waiter. He was awesome!
Sat for about 20 minutes before being asked if we would like a drink, service was really slow all night. Our server said they were down one that night. Not acceptable in such an expensive place. Snapper was dry but everything else was good.
