No coordination between server and kitchen.
For ex apps were cold, sent back to kitchen and entrees came out before apps returned. Quality of food not good or fresh.
View was nice. Dinner entrees were good but not great. Dessert was tasteless and seemed as if it was just thawed. Will not rush back.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner our first night in Newport at Mainsail and we wouldn’t hesitate to go there again!
Dinner was so-so. The New York strip had no flavor. My fiancé’s lobster ravioli was good but wouldn’t order the steak next time
Wonderful! That was our entire experience at Mainsail! Three of us had the lobster...the fourth had a steak. All were delicious! Service was very good. We highly recommend!
Dear TRfromTtown, Thank you for sharing your dining experience. It's wonderful to read about your delicious meal in MainSail, as well as the high level of service received. We appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to host you again soon. Thank you for dining in MainSail.
Service needs serious improvement. Wait staff acted as if taking your order was an inconvenience.
Food was bland.
One dish, the special, was excellent, the other two were over cooked and under flavored. Fries were not crisp. View was beautiful. Service was okay, very kind, but never brought drink refills and never offers more drinks. The table next to us received at least double the service we did. This was suppose to be our anniversary dinner so we were left very disappointed. We were left highly disappointed given the location and previous dining experiences in the past years that were much better.
In our opinion, the quality of the food did not match the price. The lobby of the Marriott is very nice, but the Mainsail dining room was un-inspired.
We had a couple of great steaks, tender filets wrapped in bacon with potatoes and the best asparagus ever. Our server was very nice and very attentive. Our table had a partially obstructed view of Newport harbor. We will be back.
Dear Mike, Thank you for sharing your dining experience. The meal you enjoyed was a nightly special, and the culinary team is always creating inventive new dishes. We look forward to hosting you again soon so you can enjoy what's new. Thank you for dining in MainSail.
Our dining experience at the Mail Sail is always very good. Very good menu selections, service and great view of Newport Harbor.
The two entrees we got at dinner had very little flavor. I substituted potato and broccoli for faro and beans and the potato/broccoli were literally boiled w absolutely NO seasoning (not even salt and pepper)
The “molton” chocolate cake desert was cold (room temp on outside, cold in middle).
The prices were not cheap so it was a disappointment.
Breakfast buffet is totally fine.
Would not return.
Oysters were fresh and delicious. Calamaris were good. All else did not live up to any moderate standards in terms of food quality - especially considering the menu pricing. Service was pleasant and staff were nice. Kitchen needs work.
Nice restaurant for a Marriott property. Staff could be better trained, have the basics down but don’t really develop a relationship with the customer.
While the ambiance was beautiful (overlooking the ocean with boats), the food was a huge disappointment. The lobster was rubbery, the salad had lettuce that was older, and the ribs were tough.
Food isn’t good. There are so many better restaurants around. Drinks are good. Had a summer sangria and that was delicious. Service is good. The staff are super nice. Ambiance is nice. You are overlooking the harbor, but that is about all is had going for this restaurant.
A convenient spot, that had an open reservation on Memorial Day weekend. The roof-top dining area and bar, looking over the harbor was quite nice. Our server was attentive, if a bit harried. The real issue were the two hostesses who seemed befuddled or disinterested in our request not to be seated next to a family with antsy children (there were many open tables) and to that point, the front desk did not have our "Open Table" reservation. They still seemed confused even after I showed them the confirmation on my phone.
When we asked for an alternative (the roof top) one of the hostesses all but threw a menu in our direction. Weird and candidly unprofessional.
To top off the mediocre showing, the hamburgers (two "impossible burgers" were not hot, tepid at best. Too bad, because, the rest of the burger was constructed nicely (fresh lettuce and tomato).
in any event, a C+ effort at best, but better than nothing on a weekend when Newport was jammed.
Unfortunately we arrived following our daughter’s Salve Commencement only to find the restaurant CLOSED. Our reservation was for 2pm but they had closed at 1:30. The waitress agreed to seat us but it certainly was not the festive lunch we had anticipated as we were the ONLY ones there.
The Mothers Day brunch was horrific. I was embarrassed that I brought my mom here. The food was terrible. The waffles were rock hard and cold. The eggs Benedict would have been good, but the heat lamp turned the English muffins into concrete. You couldn’t cut through them. The selection was small. The omlets were good and the beef was good, but cold. Very disappointing.
At first they stuck us in an awful table in a dark area with no view. I requested another table and we were moved. If the meal was $25 it would have been fine. $30 would have been fine. $50 was too overpriced, really!
Brought in out of town guests for dinner and a view. 5 people were served there dinner and finished it by the time my dinner came out. Not the servers fault, but no Manager apologized. No comp either. All meals were excellent, but it was a shame that I had to wait for my dinner. And they all slowly ate their dinner and mine arrived after they finished.
Definitely not worth the price.
We love the the buffet brunch at Mainsail. The made to order waffles and omelettes are delicious. There’s an array of fresh fruit and muffins. Homemade whipped cream with raspberries is delightful!
Eggs, sausage, bacon and potatoes, all you can eat with a great view of Newport harbor.
This was a date night for my husband and I - we went early so it was quiet. Food was great. Can always count on the restaurants on Marriott properties to be good and this one did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
Crab fritter appetizers were still frozen in the center, had to send them back. Seafood newburg was ok. Dessert was supposed to be fancy but in reality it was just a plain old custard filled donut with a dollop of ice cream on top and some drizzle. Chef should be fired
Lovely dining room. We were nearly the only diners on a Tuesday evening, off-season. Great value with buy one/get one entree (otherwise a bit high priced). Food (grilled swordfish) was cooked exactly as i asked. Delicious (although a little over-cooked for my partner, probably due to my request). Onion soup was good. Service was excellent. As a "local," will dine here again. Surprising quality for hotel restaurant.
Not the greatest. The restaurant wasn't at all crowded, and we were seated in a section that was a bit removed from other diners, which was fine, but then we sat and sat and sat. Finally, after 10 minutes with no attention whatsover, we went to find someone who cared. The food was OK, but overpriced.
Pasta was overcooked...just made for a not so great meal. Service was wonderful though.
"fine-dining" option at this hotel overlooking the Newport harbor. Decent menu selection with local seafood options, nice view for a select number of tables over looking the water from the 2nd floor over a street running between the hotel and the water front. Priced a bit above what it should be considering so many local restaurants with larger wine lists & broader dining options, also be prepared for lots of late dining children & the noise level to match, even with a later reservation there were more than 10 children walking around under the age of 10 who were over tired and did not want to sit at their tables requiring parents to entertain them while trying to consume my dinner, that combined with the waitress forgetting to order my starters leave me to suggest If your staying at the hotel consider a short walk or taxi/uber to one of the many local restaurants for a more polished dining experience.
Food wasn’t great and was over priced. It was a nice looking area and quiet.
Food was not that good especially for the price.
Great food. Great restaurant.
Service was extremely slow! Took forever to get dinner and the restaurant was not crowded. They didn’t have the wine we ordered from their menu. The breadcrumbs on the scallops were burnt and otherwise very bland. The filet was not cooked correctly and very bland, the sweet potatoes on the side was terrible. The best part of the experience was with the host who sat us who was dressed in a tux and very professional. The waitress and helpers were dressed in jeans and tee shirts which is not what was expected at a fine dining restaurant. I Would not recommend or go back, very disappointing for a Marriott property.
Food was ok but had to reorder one dish because it was very over done. Service was slow and unresponsive. Not impressed
New Years Eve family dinner
Was there for Christmas dinner (special menu.) One of the few places open in Newport. There were only two other tables seated and it was an off-time (1.15 PM), but we waited for 40 minutes for water and bread, then another 40 after appetizers for our entree. The entire meal took 2 hours 45 minutes, most of which was spent just waiting. Perhaps they were short-staffed. Food was very good, however. Marina view is nice; otherwise ambiance is just upscale hotel. Severs had to bring food from some distance away (could see them carrying heavy trays from down the hotel corridor.)
placed a drink order prior to dinner, 1st two selections were not available, out of stock, final choice came in a plastic cup after waiting 30 minutes. SENT IT BACK!
I have dined here several times for breakfast and dinner. As a party of two, we were always seated by the window so we had a great view of the water and boats. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. I love the nautical vibe of the décor. If you have time, take a walk through the Marriott hotel....it is gorgeous.
My daughters and I had a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner at the Main Sail. The turkey dinner was very delicious. I loved that I could also get typical kids food for my girls because they do not eat brussel sprouts, etc. I wish they did but oh well! The restaurant had a nice vibe, busy and festive, but not crazy. My only complaint is that our dinner took forever and I had two tired hungry girls. The table next to us sat down after us and left before we even had our dinner. Something went wrong. Forgot about us perhaps. It wasn't the end of the world, but we wanted to leave to watch a movie, that is why we booked an early dinner.
The delicious meal made up for it. Service was good and apologetic.
Breakfast was also outstanding!!! And kids food was VERY affordable, which I appreciate!
