I took my wife here for dinner before going to the theatre. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT experience. Great Smiles, Great Service, AMAZING FOOD. Great prices. All around perfection. Beautiful place, nice atmosphere.
We were able to sit and visit with our friends and enjoy an excellent meal. We each ordered a different main course and we were very happy with our choices. One was hot, two were Thai specialities, and two were on the main menu - Chef specialities. I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of my favorites - been going for years and they never disappoint. Exceptional service, good drinks, great menu.
Not our best experience this last time. Out of any by-the-glass Chardonnay. Out of regular menu item, lamb with curry. Duck with honey marinade did not fall off the bone as advertised. Will go back but will have to think about it.
Mai Thai has been one of our favorite restaurant for years. Their kitchen is innovative, creative and has never disappointed us. Their sushi is amazing. The ambiance is great, the service has always been top-notch--until last night. The waiter, who was unknown to us, did not get our (very simple) sushi order right and forgot one of our main dishes. It took another fifteen minutes to get the rest of our dinner. My wife's dinner ended up getting cold because she did not want to eat alone. We had to ask several times to get some soy sauce--which is usually put on the table before the dinner arrives.
Knowing when to drop the check also is an art a waiter needs to learn. Our waiter obviously had not mastered this yet. No one wants to feel rushed at dinner, and having the check plopped down while you are still eating is, in my opinion, a not so subtle way of saying, 'time to get out'.
That being said, our usual waiter, Joseph, dropped by our table as we were about to leave and inquired about our experience. After informing him of what had transpired, he apologized and explained that this had been the young man's first day on the job.
This of course, explained a lot!
Despite this not-so great experience, Mai Thai will remain one of our favorite dinner destinations in Boise.
We had a 7:30 pm dinner reservation. We didn't see a waiter until 20 minutes later. At least we got water.
They sat us right next to the indoor water feature. I do not recommend sitting there. The water fountain had a smell I would describe as wet dog. It was also splashing onto the table. I asked if they could turn off the water feature. They said they would ask the manager but nothing happened. Since the restaurant was full I asked if they could seat us in the bar. But the bar was full as well. We decided to power through it and try the food. I had the Cashew Chicken. It was OK at best. Not much chicken. My wife just had vegetable fried rice. It was greasy. But the beer was good... At least the manager comped our dinner. We won't be back.
I absolutely love Mai tai! I've been coming here since they opened and it has never once let me down! Evil jungle prince and swimming angel are my favorite dishes right now (it's always changing). Larry is a fantastic waiter with thorough knowledge of the dishes and it's a good idea to take him up on anything he suggests : ) The ambiance, price, quality, killer cocktails!! and the friendly staff will always have me coming here over any other restaurant. Oh! And they fry their tofu perfectly! Yum!
Good for fusion look elsewhere for tradition thai foods!
Our waiter was nice but not great. Took a long time between cocktails for him to even ask if we wanted more. Long delay in taking our order. Table next to us came in after us, had a different waitress and their drinks and food came out long before ours. It was disappointing. My husband did however enjoy the Boar. It was delicious.
We had the lunch buffet and enjoyed the Duck noodle Soup, salad and appetizers. Some other foods were a little too spicy for us, but we tried everything and will go back for special dining.
Great food, wonderful staff, and delicious cocktails!!
I love the food at Mai Thai but the sound level of the piped in music is much too high. I asked for it to be lowered and it was for a short period, but then was raised again. It was difficult to carry on a conversation and reduced the overall satisfaction with the dining experience.
It is the best Thai restaurant in this area. I was, am and will always recommend it.
I found Mai Thai about four years ago on an annual trip to Boise and have made it a point to visit this amazing restaurant every year since. The food and service is incomparable, and the menu has so much variety that even picky eaters will be able to find something to satisfy. Everything I've eaten here has been fresh, creative, and flavorful. It's not the cheapest place to eat, but I'm willing to pay a little more for well-crafted food and dining experience. And this place delivers.
If you like Thai food, Mai Thai is always a good place to go in downtown Boise.
Everything about Mai Tai was wonderful. Great service, delicious food presented in a very pretty and appealing way and lovely ambience.
This is the 4th time we have eaten there and will return often. We had our son's wedding rehearsal dinner there two years ago and loved it!!
The food was "ok" but the service was very slow.
Incredible late night dinner with a fantastic, energetic wait staff. The night could not have been any better
helpful waiter, who assisted with indecisive patrons, with picky tastes. he was congenial, patient and good humored. I appreciated it.
The service was very friendly and helpful....it was a perfect evening for a family event. The advice we received on our selection were spot on.
Very pleasantly surprised with the interesting and varied menu, reasonable prices, and quality of food and ambiance. Would highly recommend. Did not order sushi - concerned about quality in Boise, but based on what we ordered, would try it next time.
Food was really good as were the drinks. Service is a little spotty.
Even if the food were average the atmosphere is amazing and worth the visit. But the food was even better and the service was superior. Don't miss this place in downtown Boise.
Food was outstanding, as usual! Although, there was something going on behind the bar, as it took about 20 minutes to get out drinks. It wasn't like that the first time we went there though. All-in-all, we WILL go back...YUMMY!!!
It was Valentine's so it was a busy night. The service was slow but I think that was why. That being said our server was fabulous - personable and helpful with menu questions, selections and personal attention. Food was much better than I remembered. Don't know if something has changed or if I just ordered the right thing. I had grilled salmon with red curry sauce that was a surprise with its richness, spice and overall flavor. Also a curry noodle that my husband and I shared and for which we practically licked the bowl. For us, the only down side to Mai Thai is the noise factor. With very high ceilings and big open room design, there is lots of "noise", which makes it difficult to hear each other or even for the waiter to hear us.
Excellent service and superb food. We loved the cashew chicken and the noodle delight...great veggies and presentation!
we had the private table in the back of the restaurant which was great. Great waiter, attentive busboys, only problem was when the chef brought out 2 dishes we knew weren't ours and we told him that, however he also delivered a dish we thought WAS ours and proceeded to pass it around our table only to have him rush in and grab it off our table saying it was a mistake. Wouldn't you think he'd have left it there and said "enjoy, my fault" instead of taking half a dish full of delicious food. Did he just fix a half serving more and add it to that plate? Makes you wonder.....
The menu had multiple choices for vegetarian tastes. Our soup and entrees were exceptional!
We are visiting Boise and have eaten out several times. This was the most disappointing food we have had. Presentation was great but the dishes didn't deliver. The tiger prawns were rubbery and the dishes overblown.
The service was surly and not the nice friendly service we have been used to in the US.
Our 2nd visit was better than the first. Food is excellent! Service is very good. Ambiance is so-so but acceptable. Really, it's about the food, though. The old-style Mai Thai drink is totally great - too bad it's on the pricy side. Some of the best Thai I've ever had. Thanks!
Every time I have been to Mai Thai I have had a fantastic experience. Food, atmosphere and service is excellent.
Had a nice lunch...can't wait to take my wife for Dinner.
Outstanding food! Noisy but probably because it was New Years Eve. Our waiter was one of the best I've ever experienced.
Awesome food....always flavorful and well presented by a great staff!
AMAZING MENU! ALWAYS A FAVORITE!
Slow food preparation that wasn't explained. Very kind wait staff though.
Great food, friendly, efficient wait staff.
The buffet was amazing. Normally, I'm not a fan of buffets, but Mai Thai does it up right! Thank you for bringing the buffet back into my life!
Great service and food! Ordered a couple of dishes we've never had before and weren't disappointed. Fabulous combination of flavors.
