Delicious chefs menu.. highly recommended
Amazing food..best i had in Hawaii. Dissapointed full fish option wasnt available..whole readon we went
Three of us split the ahi tartare, pa'i'ai, grilled he'e/watercress salad, arugula pizza, and a couple of desserts. Everything tasted fresh. The GM came over and introduced herself. Our server, back server, and busser were all very well informed and attentive. It was pricey (but Chef Ed Kenney's stuff always is), but definitely worth the visit. I like that they now have a punch card program!
It was nice and quiet with great service! Mahalo Nui!!
Wow! We ordered the Mahina Family Feast. A huge whole fish deep-fried in a lite batter accompanied with an amazing amount of side dishes including unique local vegetables (Ulu?). It was quite dramatic arriving at table and absolutely delish. Service was amazingly thoughtful and sincere. The space has a Hawaii-style mid-century vibe. No parking, valet only.
Fresh fish so wonderfully prepared! Service was attentive and full of Aloha spirit.
The seafood was wonderful and the service excellent. We plan to go again before we leave Honolulu.
Exceptional food with exceptional service. A must try in Honolulu.
This was the best meal we had in Hawaii. True culinary genius.
We were there for brunch on a Sunday! The menu was limited but what we had was delicious! It’s like stepping back to the 1960s with the retro furnishings and veterans pool! I felt like we would see Connie Francis come around the corner at any minute singing “Where the Boys Are!”
One of my fave spots on the island. Love everything about the Surfjack and you can’t go wrong with a menu by Chef Kinney.
Great Hawaiian Japanese fusion food- staff attentive and friendly
Attentive wait staff and terrific food. A splendid evening out on the town in the middle of the week. No better way to go.
Awesome food, awesome service and live music to boot, brunch can’t get any better than this. Highly recommend!
Reservations recommended for dinner. We had a reservation and was sat as soon as we checked in. The service was quick and the server was very knowledgeable of everything they offered. I had the kunoa strip loin. It was cooked perfectly and came with potatoes and vegetables. I definitely will be returning!
We took out of town friends. The food was very mediocre. We used to love this restaurant. We will not be returning.
It was one of our favorite restaurant in Waikiki
Food was fablous and interior was cool and fun
Not so expensive and we had a wonderful time
This one is the must try restaurant in Honolulu
Very cool setting. The food is from local ingredients, but cooked very well and delicious.
Had a great time, immediately booked another dinner after paying the check.
The fish was great and reasonably priced as it was in other visits. The Happy Hour is reasonable for Waikiki, but is not a real discount on wine and beer. The one issue that I would mention is that if you charge the bill to a credit card it gets coded as a hotel charge not a restaurant charge. Therefore, if you get bonus points on your credit card for restaurant and not hotel charges you get disappointed. It is a restaurant and a good one, so it should be coded as a restaurant.
The waitress seemed to be the only one working which seemed to slow her down, however, she was still very friendly, calm, and attentive.
We shared the group meal and it was mostly good but the whole fish was crusted and fried. We found it was a little dry and overdone which was a shame given the occasion and price. It was also quite cold inside from the air conditioning. We were expecting something a little more open air given the description so we did not bring warm sweaters.
Good food and great drinks. Not Kinney’s best, but still solid place in Waikiki.
-Food was delicious!
-Server was friendly and easy going.
-VIP seats to live music which was amazing. I forget the name of the local musician who performed :(
-Ambiance is on-point. :D
-Service. We had to request utensils after receiving our meals. Our credit card was rung against the wrong check. Had to request refills on morning coffee.
Loved the Hawaiian meets “farm to table” selections. Variety of drinks were good and interesting.
Creative menu, fun atmosphere, and welcoming staff.
Adorable restaurant inside a cute boutique hotel. Drinks and service were top-notch!
-The food was delicious!
-Ambiance. It’s low-key, hip, yet causal.
-Portions were perfect. We left super satisfied with our dinners.
-Service was subpar. Requested condiments were forgotten. Server was unfriendly.
Will definitely give it another shot.
Had a horrible experience probably won't return. Service was mediocre and food took forever and left me sick the next day
Food was uninspiring, staff was friendly
Went to Mahina and Sun on Xmas day because nearly all restaurants were booked solid. I thought, how bad could it be since the chef is well known for his other restaurants. Fooled me!
I guess it attracts an eclectic young crowd. Not my cup of tea. The hotel is a dive. At first sight, we should have kept going, but, I was hoping to be surprised. Unfortunately, I wasn't. The ambiance is not even shabby chic. More like shabby cheap. The service was ok but it took a long time for food to come out. Coffee was good but I was never offered a refill. The food was better than I expected after so many let downs. I had the fried rice. It was hot off the grill. Tasty but a lot of flavors going on. Filipino pork adobo, Korean Kim chee, soy sauce, ginger and Japanese pickled ginger. It was like what you might make at home when cleaning out your refrigerator. $17. My partner had the Mochi waffle. That was tasty, $10. Would I go back. No.
It was great
This is the second time I've been to the restaurant. First time when they opened and then recently in Dec 2018. The restaurant is open air to the hotel pool so you will get some noise from that area and it does feel strange at first. My recent visit included GREAT service from Sonda, but I felt for the price of the food, I would expect a little more. 2 drinks, 1 starter, 1 pizza and 1 main = $134 incl tip. The starters were good, but then the main were basic (but that's how most places are now).
Still needs some TLC and you can find better food outside of Waikiki.
Great little hidden away location on Kuhio in the thick of Waikiki. It was different from the norm, California meets Hawai’i surfer hang-out. The staff are exceptional and bring the place alive. Much preferred to the larger mega hotels. Feels like a home away from home. Check it out! Farm to Table restaurant.
Service was super slow. Must have been a half hour before drinks arrived, they sat on the bar. Food was lukewarm. Pizza came last but was cold. Asked to heat up and waited over a half hour while they ended up making a new one. Everyone else was completely done with their meal. Food was good.
Restaurant was way under staffed for brunch. Staff did the best they could.
The food and service were outstanding. Great variety on the menu!
