Magoo's Pub & Eatery Ratings and Reviews
Everything from the service to the food was excellent! We had a group so we had the crab cakes, bangers and mash, fishwish sandwich, burgers and quesadillas! The waitress was wonderful even put up with 2 messy kids who kept spilling drinks! Would definitely go back! One note the food takes a bit to come out so if your in a hurry it might not be the best option!
Wanted to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Saturday after the crowds. So chose a cozy neighborhood gem to share brunch with a neighbor. Food and service was great and very reasonably priced. My neighbor and I really enjoyed our time there. The restaurant is very comfortable and relaxing but with an air of fun. It would be a good place to go before theatre performances too. I'll be coming back soon.
Nice little Irish-themed pub. Had several authentic Irish dishes on the menu. But had other food as well. 4 of us: 1 had fish & chips, 1 had salad with blue cheese & chicken, 1 had white pizza , 1 had mussels in garlic butter sauce w/ house salad. All meals great with no complaints. We were impressed that a little, local, neighborhood watering hole/eatery handled such varied menu items all equally well. Service was perfect: right there, but not intrusive while we were having a get-together of old friends who hadn't seen each other in over a year. By the time we left around 7:30 PM, noise level was definitely climbing. Table next to us had a family with youngster, so works for families though it is definitely a pub/bar.
Overall our experience was good, but everything took too long. We waited over half an hour for our food and it wasn't that crowded. We were late for tickets we had to the theater so we had to ask about the status of our food. We also asked for separate checks. Our waitress had to hand write each check and break out a calculator to calculate the total and tax for each person. The menu felt a little off theme for an Irish pub (i.e. Potstickers and dumplings). I think the menu is too large for their small kitchen.
We ate at Magoo's based on the 5 star rating on Open Table.
There were only two couples in the restaurant. The service was good and all were friendly. But, this is a nice local bar not a 5 star restaurant. There is no wine list and the choice of wine is limited to house brand. The food we ordered was good, but be prepared for an Irish themed local pub not a 5 star restaurant.
Passing through on business, used to OpenTable app to find supper - a great selection. Cozy, no pressure atmosphere to enjoy my Harp in. Despite visits to other Irish pubs, never saw boxty on a menu. Really enjoyed it! Hope my travels take me through Frederick soon again!
Wife and I had a night away from the kids and didn't know what to do with ourselves, so we figured we'd try something new for dinner . She had the spicy crispy chicken (or something like that) and I had the Dublin Coddle, which is like a white wine garlic seafood stew. Oh and a couple Black & Tan's of course. Beer was cold, food was tasty. We'll be back.
Great pub experience. Food was very good and wait staff was nice and attentive. Bartender took our order and recommended a grapefruit shandy. We ordered a draft cider instead, but she brought us a taste of the shandy to try since she was changing out the keg. It was a good recommendation. Overall it was a great experience.
Want to be transported to Ireland without the airport hassle? This is the place 8f you're near Frederick, MD. Cold beer on tap, nice servers, stick-to-your-ribs food. Highlight was the hot crab dip with a pint of Guinness. Nice example of what a neighbor bar should be. What more could you ask for
Overall my impression was, 'OK place', but that may have been due to the company I was with. The Shepherd's Pie I had was really just a decent Guinness Stew with lamb covered in mashed potato. It tasted good, but wasn't what the title said it would be. Several of us had one of their bread pudding for dessert, and it was terrible. Someone in the kitchen forgot how to make it apparently because my dish was essentially just old bread. There was no sauce involved at all. When they came to clear the dishes we pointed this out, but the management made no attempt to fix the issue. Too bad.
I have been twice for dinner and have enjoyed all the food. Crab Dip is excellent with bread or on their French Fries. I have also had sandwiches both times and they were very good. Nice selection of beers and cocktails. We definitely dine here at least one time a month.
Not a good customer experience. Our reservation were for 8:15 we were seated about 30 mins late, the owner was seating her friends and walk ins without reservations before our party. It took more than 20 minutes for our waitress to get our drink order. The Chieftain Burger was bland and poorly prepared, was supposed to have bacon... Had a couple of Bacon Bits (Literally). Lastly The Fish & Chips were obviously frozen fish out of a box... Overall not a good dining experience
If you want good Irish/American food this is the place. I usually have the lamb stew. Lots of meat potatoes, carrots and all the other ingredients that make up a good lamb stew. My friend had the Chicken Pot Pie and she was very pleased with what was presented to her. This is also the place to go for a Guinness.
After making a reservation on Open Table, the waitress "couldn't find my name" and wasn't at all worried about seating us. We were sent to the basement (literally, a basement). Eventually, we got a table upstairs. It's a small establishment but still service was poor. Waited for drinks, waited for food, no personality at all.
Went here for my birthday dinner last weekend. Loud Irish music all night long with terrific beer on tap. We had the chocolate peanut butter porter and it was delicious. The service was pretty slow, but it was a crowded 1st Saturday in Frederick, so we did not expect quick service, even with a reservation. Food was tasty though a bit small on portion for dinner. Add on some sides & make sure to get an appetizer. Soak in the music and have a few beers with friends.
Picked a new location to try on Saturday night in our home town. Showed up on time. Place was packed. Was told to wait in the downstairs for the table to open up for approx. 10 minutes (which is a basement with a bar). Waited 30 minutes only to find another party was also waiting for their table. After no one checked on us, we inquired on when the table would be ready. The waiter could not give a time, only to say he did not think any of the tables were leaving due to the band that had started. In the end we abandoned our effort to try the new restaurant and left for a restaurant that we knew we could depend on. Sorry to say we did not get to try the food, it looked delicious as it passed us by.
this was a very cute restaurant. My GPS got us a little lost at first and when i called they didn't seem to really know where i was but we eventually found it. We walked in and there was a group of musicians playing which i guess they do thurs nights and weekends. We ordered and the food was amazing. I got the shepherds pie, it was not what i was used to but so much better then anywhere else I've been. My boyfriend had the fish and chips which he loved. The only complaint we had was that they only had fans running and it was a bit on the warm side.
My daughter had a bacon cheese burger which she really liked- the fries were great. My husband had the coddle, looked good and he liked it. I had the spinach feta dumplings, which weren't so good. Don't think I ever saw any feta and the fried dumpling was just greasy and not so good.
