Serivce was average... waited 30 minutes over our reservation time. No comp app or dessert... Also, we were served 'tainted' water... again, no apology from manager of comp'd anything... server said 'out of his control' ok... we were served gross, dirty water.. yuck. I don't care who's fault it was, it should have been taken care of. Too many options to dine in the area. Over priced for the service- wont go back.
Ate prior to fund raising event...didn’t have enough servers or bartenders to handle the event.
Poor service with frequent requests for more chips and mild salsa ignored Charged $1 for lemonade refills and when I asked for 1 glass to be without ice as the other two glasses were half ice I was told I’d only get a small glass. Ridiculous. I asked for the manager and then suddenly a full glass of lemonade came. Service slow and food was not very flavorful. Will not be going back any time soon
The food is delicious. We had reservations and were seated right away. However, we ordered at 6:25. Didn't get served until 7:15. We had to pack our food to go because we had a 7:30 show at the Metropolis. If you are planning on attending a show at the Metropolis make sure you tell your server or go extra early. Evidently others who ordered after us got served first because they said this. It was a really frustrating experience. We spoke to a manager about the the very slow service, but she wasn't sympathetic. There are many good dining options in AHs and I'll probably chose those over Mago.
Great food, but even with 1 1/2 hours for dining were almost late for the theater.
Excellent food, nice ambiance. The tacos, mole chicken, and jumbo shrimp entrees were fabulous. As was the bread pudding!
Joined for Easter Brunch and throughly enjoyed the selection.
The flavors are fantastic at Mago Grill, from the salsas to the mole, this is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Illinois. There are also many choices for my veggie husband to enjoy. The service is wonderful also, everyone is very kind at both the S. Barrington and the Arlington Hts locations. I always recommend Mago Grill.
We came here with 2 couples for my birthday. Everyone enjoyed several drinks, loved their meals, and enjoyed the atmosphere and view. We stayed for about 2.5 hours and didnt feel rushed. A favorite of my wife and I is now a favorite of 4 of our friends, as well.
Excellent atmosphere! Very festive! Excellent service. Food was so awesome. Highly recommend the tacos- all different kinds.
We went to Mago for Sunday Brunch. Very nice selection of brunch items. The food was outstanding. It was my husband's first time eating there and he was very impressed.
Ability to accommodate a wheelchair was much appreciated. Server was very friendly and professional.
Creatively prepared cuisine that's delicious and not run of the mill Mexican yet there's standard Mexican cuisine also. Food was served in about ten minutes- quite speedy and piping hot! The only thing that was irritating was while we were deciding on which cocktail we wanted, the waiter left and returned. It would've only taken us 30 seconds to decide. That was unnecessary. Also, the guacamole bowl on the table sat crooked because there was a big chunk of the leg broken along with a chunk of the bowl missing. It should've been tossed. Everything else was very well done and both our dinners were delicious. I don't know how they could be prepared so quickly!
The service was excellent and assisted in identifying ingredients to match the desired spiciness of our group. The presentation was excellent and matched the taste of each entree. The guacamole prepared at the table was fresh and bright and also seasoned to our taste.
Food phenomenal. Had skirt steak with coconut mole. Incredible
Our server was very friendly, but getting the food and drinks was slow.
We had a6:30 reservation and were seated right away. The waiter took 10 minutes to come over and take drink orders and this would have been fine on a busy night but it wasn’t. After taking drink orders we waited another 15 minutes to get our drinks only to have one of them wrong. The margaritas were average and the Paloma was not good at all. Salsa 17 down the street has much better versions of both! Tacos were good but he entire meal took 2 hours which is crazy for a Mexican restaurant. With so many great Mexican food options in AH Mago is not at the top of our list.
Best Mexican in the area, great new decor, great margueritas too!
We went to Mago on Thursday and the food was excellent, chips were warm, my salad was fantastic and my husbands fajitas were hot and yummy. Since we enjoyed it so much, we took the kids on Sunday (at 4:00pm). The chips weren't warm, no silverware (we had to ask for it), the queso dip should have been hotter and the chicken next to it was barely warm, the entrees were barely warm, the fajitas were bland and even my salad was not as good (It was mostly lettuce, which I swear was iceberg, had no avocado and was very light on the other ingredients). On the plus side, the guacamole was good and my son enjoyed the flan. It's hard to understand how it could be so enjoyable on one evening and such a bust the next
We’ve been here before. Used a Groupon. Service was uneven tonight. They switched servers after ordering drinks. I had to remind them of my wife’s margarita after 15 minutes. New waitress said I should have told her of the drink. It wasn’t busy and think bartender just forgot. Later they brought my dad’s order but not ours. I mentioned to our waitress after 10 minutes and she agreed that was strange but she should have followed up to begin with. Maybe I’m a bit too critical
Otherwise food was terrific as always
Extremely loud place. Had to yell across the table to have conversation. Weakest margaritas ever. $10 for something that I could not even taste a little tequila in. And the parking situation for this area is horrendous too.
The waiter was very slow to take care of us on an evening when it was not crowded. The wrong food was served to us; which our waiter caught, but then we noticed that a few minutes later they served the meal placed in front of us to the person that ordered it. Not sure that is supposed to happen. I️ wouldn’t want a meal that was set down in front of another customer first.
Very festive atmosphere! Glad they expanded the restaurant. Much more space now. Excellent service & food. Table side guac is amazing!!!
The place is too noisy to carry on a decent conversation, service was slow. The fresh guacamole being made at the table was very tasty and a cool experience.
Our meal was awesome! Mago never ever disappoints. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is even better. By far my favorite Mexican restaurant.
Mid afternoon business meal the wait staff was very accommodating and prompt. Very good experience.
We had a good meal at a fair price and great service. I will dine there again.
Finer Mexican dining suitable for families or special occasion. Service was very good. Tasty variety of menu options.
We were seated on the east side of the restaurant and it was very loud. We didn't mind the noise but someone looking for a quiet place for dinner might care. We love Mago's and dine there often but this was our first time in the 'east wing.'
Excellent restaurant food was great service was very good.
The Service was great. Food was delicious! Can’t wait to go back!
Great food and service. The bar area is really nice to sit and eat at during weeknights. That's when it is quieter and less busy. The food is always good. I especially like the fish tacos, and the guacamole is always hand made at the table. I have visited this place many, many times because I live in the downtown Arlington Heights area. It's an easy walk. One problem I have with this restaurant is it very noisy. People with kids don't really care how loud or noisy they get. The kids in this restaurant are not well behaved for the most part. Tables that are close together have customers who are out to party and are extremely loud. No one seems to speak in a quiet, conversational tone. That is my only negative comment because I love the food and service.
When we go to a restaurant often times the bar bill is higher than the price of the food eaten. That won't happen at Mago. This place has an extensive menu, but I thought the food was typical Mexican which nowadays does not go far with me. I want this restaurant to be different and great, with fresh new ideas for Mexican food, but it's not. However, my main complaint is with the bar. Had that experieince not been such a hassle I wouldn't be writing a review and would probably just never go there again. Two of us had margaritas, one was called diablo and the other noble, and both tasted like pure sugar. Another person ordered a raspberry mojito which again was very sugary, bright red and different tasting. The last person had a serious issue with the pour of tequila. Exactly one oz. The two margaritas were exchanged, no problem, except time, for a beer and another mojitos made by the waiter. The two new mojitos tasted 100% better. We were told that we should ask for a mojito classic or original not the mago way if we don't want it to taste like a syrup. Remember that if you go.
Love Mago! Great food and margaritas. Drinks are a bit pricey though
Love Mago! Food is great and love the decor. Have to say, though, that we like the one in Barrington a little better - more of a diverse Latin vibe and more lively.
We've been looking for a good Mexican restaurant near our apartment, and (while a drive) Mago is a great find. The room's a bit bland, although the Lucha Libre masks are fun. Service was very good; our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was also very good -- the mains are a bit pricey, but the tacos are a great deal. We tried a mix, and liked every one. The charo beans were tasty, but needed more actual beans and less filler. The shrimp ceviche was great, if a tiny bit too sweet. We don't plan to live in the area much longer, but while we're here, we'll definitely return. Sidenote: parking is a pain; street parking is tough and the city ramp is confusing and full.
Salsa is phenomenal. Our waitress was amazing!! Love this place my new favorite!!
Food was good, service good but extremely noise. I can't remember being in an upscale - not inexpensive restaurant near as noisy as this one. Needs some significant sound-proofing work. We could barely hear each other at our table and came away exhausted from trying to communicate.
Have tried this place three times because the place is charming and my husband loves Mexican food. No more. Service was spotty, albeit friendly. Tableside guac was terrific. Decent beer selection. Margaritas were forgettable. Had the mole chicken, which was a major disappointment. Pistachio mole was overly salty and the chicken was downright tough. Took three bites and set it aside. No mention of my uneaten meal was made by the waiter. Previous visits have left me unimpressed w the food and cocktails. Nothing has changed. Adios!
Love the food. A cut above most Mexican restaurants. Always helpful staff.
Excellent in all ways. Food was fabulous and at a great price.
