Mago Grill & Cantina - Arlington Heights
I love Mago but in all honesty we couldn't even enjoy our evening. It was so loud in the dining room we could not hear each other in conversation. We may as well have eaten alone.
Great service and food was excellent. They also have fun cocktails to choose from. The restaurant’s decor and music contributed to a great night out.
The Fajitas were very good.
We stopped in for dinner before going to the Metropolis Theatre . Great location, fresh food and flavorful choices. Id go back again!
Surprising! Expecting your typical tex-mex experience. The food and drinks were amazing! We sat at the bar and found out just about everything is freshly prepared with a twist of unique and authentic Mexican cooking! Reminded my wife and I of Tulum which is a “foodie” experience! Many Mezcal drinks which we have a hard time finding since tequila drinks seem more prevalent. Another sign of a true authentic Mexican experience! ...Guacamole is made fresh table side!
Great food and drinks. We sat outside, it was a nice evening weather wise. The construction outside isn’t beautiful to look at, however hopefully that will be done soon
It was a beautiful night to sit outside and listen to the concert in the park while eating dinner with friends. We asked for fish tacos but without the spice. Two of us took 1 bite out of our dorado tacos and could not even take a 2nd bite because they were so spicey. I have had the tacos here before and never had a problem. When we asked for something different the waiter said he would have to pay for our food. I spoke to a manager who confirmed that if a patron returns a meal the wait staff have to pay. I have never heard of a restaurant making the staff pay for a customers meal that is sent back and I have waitressed before. The two fish tacos still showed up on the bill. Worst restaurant management that causes poor customer service. I won’t ever be going back. Much better restaurants in Arlington Heights.
Loved the food and service. Would definitely go back.
Always one of our favorite restaurants. Service was a bit under par last night, but food was amazing, as always.
Great entrees to choose from. Fajitas were very good
Had dinner before the theater. Reservation honored and as usual enjoyed!
The food and staff were great. Sitting on the wrong side of the restaurant, however, proved to be a challenge to have a conversation. The restaurant needs to find a way to deaden the noise; it's distracting and made the meal less enjoyable.
Server was great, food was wonderful!!!
The food was mediocre and the service wasn’t as good as it could have/should have been. The best part of the meal was the table side guacamole and the hand crafted margaritas. The fajitas were meh and the chips were mass produced. I had hoped for more per the previous reviews I had read.
We go here every other week and had a reservation for 7 but had to wait 15 min even though there were plenty of empty tables . Service was slow but food was good.
Food was amazing. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian options. The Mago in Arlington Heights is much better than the one in Bolingbrook. We’ll be coming to that location more for sure!
So loud couldn’t hear each other. We were practically yelling. Waitress was accommodating but the noise was too much for us.
Cozy an great place for fusion Mexican food, in downtown Arlington heights so have to find parking
Great food and great service! I’m going back!
Great service, good food but loud and hard to have a conversation
Food was excellent. Wait staff friendly and very helpful.
We were pleasantly surprised by the variety on the menu and uniqueness of the choices. The weekly mole sauce was outstanding, having it with the half chicken order. The at-the-table made guacomole was very fresh and tasty, made just the way we wanted. The ambience was upscale. Our reservation time was honored and we had no wait. The server was very attentive, professional and pleasant. We stayed after our meal for conversation and never felt rushed out.
Excellent food and great service.
We always have good food when we visit but this time the fish tacos were cold, very unusual could hve been the service the waiter was not very attentive.
We sat outside, hoping to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. Unfortunately there is construction on the street and the noise level was horrendous. You could barely hear others speak. The food was yummy and the margarita special helped. Our server was attentive, refilling the salsa, chips and water when requested. Looking forward to returning when the construction is over. In the meantime, management may want to warn other diners wishing to sit outside.
Great food and atmosphere, but when restaurants is busy, service is not as great. But. . .would still go back.
The food and margaritas were delicious. The tableside guacamole was excellent, but the portion seemed a bit small for the $10 price tag. Service was friendly, but it was hard to find our server when we wanted to order. Overall, we would certainly go back.
Best Guac EVER! I've never had a bad experience and it is one of the best restaurants I've every been to.
We know that it is loud and it is a relaxed dining experience where you can never go in a hurry since it takes a long time for service. That being said, after this last visit, it made us not want to go back.
We started with food brought to us that we did not order. When we did order, the food that was brought to us was incorrect. There was crema on my mom’s tacos which was not listed on the menu. After some arguing and the waiter giving us a hard time, he took them back to get remade. What really upset us was that I ordered a side of the truffle rice ($7 on the menu). It came out with octopus on it! I told the waiter this is not what we ordered. And he said yes it was, and argued with me. I would NEVER have ordered anything with octopus on it!! I told him I ordered a side of truffle rice and he said that no I ordered this risotto with octopus. When I ordered, I pointed to the menu where it said sides and had the rice listed. So that was $14 which was double what we thought we were paying and it wasn’t what I ordered! It had been almost an hour since we sat down and my husband was so hungry that he didn’t care we got the wrong thing. So we paid more money and it wasn’t what we ordered.
We paid $100 for dinner and it was a really unpleasant experience. We didn’t get what we ordered and paid more for it. It would have been one thing if the server was kind but he was very abrasive and argumentative. We would have said something while we were there but we were going to the show and didn’t have time to say anything. We don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but we really do love Mago and hope it can change and continue to be great.
Sent an email to the restaurant. Never heard back. Quite disappointing.
We celebrated a birthday. Was seated promptly. Service was great. Food tasted excellent. Loved the choice of 3 different salsas.
My last visit to Mago prior to this review’s was before the expansion of the dining room. So firstly, it was confusing upon entering the foyer which dining room to choose, the one on the left or the one on the right. After choosing the right side we then had to search for the hostess who was no where to be seen. We asked our waitress about any specials of the day and she stared quizzically at us as if we were new to the whole sit down restaurant thing, and we in turn looked at her as if SHE were new to the whole sit down restaurant thing. I think the last assumption was correct. Our orders were all wrong, even after the waitress raved at the mole sauce I chose for my NO cheese/NO onion mushroom enchiladas. Placed in front of me was a platter of chicken strips on a bed of peppers (my tortillas were coming soon, I was assured). I assured them that I did not order this, which was when they switched my plate with that of one of my party of 4. I took 1 bite of my enchiladas to discover that they were slathered with white cheese. Twenty minutes later, after they “quickly” fixed my order, I resigned myself to picking through the now cheese less mound of onions in search of mushrooms for which this dish was named. Oh, and the mole sauce to rave about, I wouldn’t know as my dish was swimming in a clear green sauce that I never requested.
Innovative and delicious! The flavors were interesting....everything was so good. We will return.
Outdoor seating is wonderful. Service and food were excellent.
Night out with friends. Guava margarita was delicious and freshly made guacamole. Ambiance is nice but weird set up with two separate rooms. Black truffle rice was to die for it’s something to try definitely. Tacos we had was okay bit too saucy. Overall nice place for dinner and drinks.
I love Mago Grill but on Friday night it was so loud we could not hold a conversation. The walls and ceiling are wood so the sound just bounced around. There was a man wearing noise cancelling headphones and my group was jealous. Food was good but the noise really took away from us catching up.
Go there for the tasty food and excellent service. Do go there expecting it to be a quiet romantic place. Lots of traffic especially on the weekends. It's a casual place in the same building as the theater. Prices are very reasonable, too.
Waiter was very attentive. Guac and chips were great. Wonderful margarita. Excellent tacos. What's not to love?
The food was delicious. Probably the best guacamole I’ve had in years and I make a pretty good one! 😀
Great fresh food at reasonable prices! Service was fast and server was knowledgeable. Would definitely come back.
Service was really slow and the server was also rude. It took almost 30mins before a server came and gave us water..... Then the waiting game began to see how long it would take him to return. I would stay away unless you want to be there for a couple of hours before you get your food.
