About

Igniting a culinary renaissance upon opening in 1990, Charleston's most popular restaurant is located at the site of the city's original Customs House (circa 1739). Led by chefs Don Drake and Kelly Franz, Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with a modern flair for artful presentations.

Scallop appetizer Devine. Crab soup too salty. Pecan Pie outstanding. Service top notch. Front of restaurant more lively. We were in back where it was quieter. I’d recommend it overall.

Food was amazing! Loved every bite. Service was sub-par. Had to ask our server as well as other servers for refills often. Seemed the waitress was annoyed when we asked for another moment with the menues.

Really enjoyed the experience.
Couldn’t decide on appetizers so we got 3!!!
Low country bouillabaisse was outstanding as was the snapper special.
Unfortunately didn’t leave room for desert.
Service was excellent
Would go there again.

Magnolia's is like the low country, warm and inviting, comfortable, yet there are hidden surprises. I could make a meal of the fried green tomatoes with cheddar grits, country ham, caramelized onion chutney, and tomato butter. There are many new trendy places to eat in Charleston, but like the low country itself, Magnolia's will never disappoint.

Saw several great reviews and decided to try it while on our trip. It was much better than described. The food was excellent with more than sufficient proportions. The waiter was pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. Most patrons were very casually dressed but it certainly didn't take away from our experience. Best shrimp and grits I have ever had. We all had something different and we were all very pleased. Would absolutely recommend it and look forward to returning.

We ate our delicious dinner at the bar. The shrimp appetizer was amazing. I had the halibut-fresh catch and it was superb.
Will definitely dine here again!

The food was excellent!! The only drawback was that we were seated beside a lady who was dining with her dog. He was well behaved & all but, pets & fine dining don't go hand in hand for us. Would recommend this spot to everyone.

We had lunch with two younger relatives from CA and all of us enjoyed it very much. It was pretty, quiet, the crab cake “the best I ever had if you don’t like filling!” He grinned and explained there was almost NO filling, it was almost pure crab, and was in heaven. Out of all the places we went this past week, we all agreed it was our favorite. Waitstaffer was outstanding and friendly, helpful with ingredients on the menu items.

I am extremely disappointed a reservation was made for 8:45 pm on a Sunday and the restaurant closed at 4pm.

i do not understand if surrounding restaurants and bars are active why Magnolias would be closed at 4pm on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Best Regards,

Food and service were outstanding. My filet came out over cooked and they promptly replaced it (new filet within 5 minutes). I had a complimentary bisque soup while I waited. Dessert special (berry cobbler) was off the charts. 5 stars plus. Best in Charleston...

This is a 5 star restaurant that is a wonderful experience. Food is stellar and unique. With a local flair and a variety of everything that you'd want in premier dining experience, Magnolia's should be at the top of the list of choices. I've eaten there 4 or 5 times and have never been disappointed. Brunch, lunch or dinner they are all great. Oh, and save room for desert.

We were recommended Magnolias by a local family member. We were not disappointed! The local ingredients and entree choices were perfect for a true Charleston dining experience. Our server was phenomenal, not only his but all of the servers knowledge and passion was extremely noticeable. I would highly recommend Magnolias if you are looking for good Southern comfort food, especially the fried chicken!
