Igniting a culinary renaissance upon opening in 1990, Charleston's most popular restaurant is located at the site of the city's original Customs House (circa 1739). Led by chefs Don Drake and Kelly Franz, Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with a modern flair for artful presentations.

My husband and I went here on our babymoon/anniversary trip and had a great time! He got the Parmesan encrusted flounder and I got the fried chicken and both were delicious! Very hearty portions too. We got a scoop of the strawberry shortcake ice cream and it was super creamy! I would definitely recommend this restaurant, the service was impeccable!

Best restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. Same phenomenal experience seven years apart.

I ordered the petite filet and crab cake. I requested the filet to be cooked medium but I believe it was dry and overcooked. The crab cake was much smaller than I expected bigger than a silver dollar but not much more and I didn't get any indication of crab. It tasted more of bread than crab. I think I made a poor choice in my selection of food.

Magnolias loves up to it's great reputation. We were seated on time, and service was great
Suzi, our server, answered all our questions and had excellent recommendations. The market catch was very flavorful and perfectly prepared. Overall, an excellent night out.

Me and my husband were in Charleston for our honeymoon and planned a very nice date night for us. We chose Magnolias for dinner and were not disappointed. It was the fanciest dinner we had ever been to, and the food was just fantastic. I got the petite steak and it was melt in your mouth good. He got the flounder, and we kept sharing because everything was soon good. We’re also big fans of hummus, and if you are too you have to try the boiled peanut hummus! Awesome service and awesome food

This was my first time having flounder and now I won’t be able to have it anywhere else because it was too good.

Have been here numerous times and believe it has gone downhill a bit. Some of food was great, but chicken was overdone and baked brie dish was not good.
Service was good..we had a very efficient and personable waitress

Enjoyed our Sunday brunch. Food was very good. Plates were literally clean when we finished. Service was good - a little slow to start with. Love the convenient parking next door.

We love the atmosphere - it’s our third time dining here - authentic Southern but upscaled and delicious! Staff are true pros!

Everything about our evening at Magnolias was wonderful. We were in town for a wedding and dined at Magnolias after hearing rave reviews from multiple sources. We were a party of 11 and were seated on time for our 7:30 reservation.

For appetizers we had: scallops (MUST TRY!), the fried oysters, blue crab soup and beet salad. All were great.

For entrees a few people had the fried chicken and loved it! The seafood grits, flounder, and salmon were also ordered. I had the ahi tuna, also great!

Our waiter, Ed, made the experience even better. He was as attentive as could be, extremely personable and took time to speak with us. We had 1 child with a shellfish allergy and he made sure her food was prepared properly and a manager brought it out.

We highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Charleston, and will certainly be back!

Server was rude on multiple occasions. Food was good but certainly not as great as we were all expecting. There are a lot of options in Charleston so I won't be make.

My sisters, best friend, and I drove to Charleston from Atlanta for the weekend. My sister had seen something on Magnolia's and I was able to make a quick reservation for a Friday night at 7:30. The food was good, but the service was fantastic! My favorite part of the meal was the warm bread with cream cheese butter.

Our favorite was the fried oyster appetizer in which we shared and it’s plenty for two. I must say, they do it perfect. We also had a cup of the blue crab bisque, which was also very good, but rich, so we were pretty full by the time the main course came. In addition we also shared the fish of the day. The vegetables that came with the main course was so delicious we could have just feasted on that and called it a day. Sharing is a wonderful way to be able to try other dishes and they are very accommodating. This truly is one of our favorite places to come when we are visiting Charleston.

Service was great and my meal was excellent. However, my wife doesn't like scallops, so she asked for shrimp only on the "Seafood and Grits". The meal was served with soft small sized shrimps. We later saw the meal being served at other tables with nice big jumbo shrimp and scallops. What happened, is the chef a jerk and decided that he didn't like somebody asking for a substitution, so he served up a lousy meal. Pretty petty if you ask me. We won't be going back, very unhappy. P.S. will be posting this review on all other sites too.

Have visited Charleston a few times. Many fine dining establishments. We figured we would try Magnolias and see what this first rate chef has come up with 5his year. Well he didn’t disappoint. Short ribs over home made pasta in a wine reduction was superb. Simple beet salad with arugula and dressing nice touch. My wife had a halibut special that was well liked. Friends had seafood over pasta boulliabase prepared well. Nice pastry chef with delightful selections. Adequate wine list and drink specials. Their farm to table theme really worked well. Down side our waitress turned us off when only two of us ordered drinks. She rushed us through dinner and had an attitude when we only wanted to share a desert. Otherwise this is a five star all the way. Reserve well in advance, just like most high end restaurants in Charleston. A better waitress will make this quite an enjoyable and satisfying dinner.

We had a very special Anniversary dinner at Magnolias. The hostess greeted us with a "happy anniversary" welcome as did our server. He was great! We were served with an unexpected happy anniversary flute of champagne. Food was excellent - we ate out every night during our 6 day stay - Magnolias was the best from both a food and service standpoint. Wde highly recommend dinner at Magnolias.
