Staff was professional and warm. Fried green tomatoes we're seasoned very well. Fried chicken liver appetizer was outstanding. And I'm not particularly a fan of them. Ahi tuna entree was off the charts good -asked for just a brush of the grill (basically rare). Seafood grits entree was very tasty. The only negative was that we could only eat one meal there! Too full to try desserts.
Everytime I’m back in Charleston, I always make a stop here. Hands down the best restaurant in Charleston! Great food and service.
Food was fabulous. Slade, our server, was fantastic. We will definitely be back!
Great food. Very good service. Looking forward to our next visot
As always, great food, unhurried and friendly service. Our favorite Charleston "go to" place.
Creative and interesting menu. Good fish and vegetarian selection. Vibrant and lively but not so loud that you couldn't converse. Excellent staff. Would definitely return.
First, you need reservations. Make them well in advance of your visit. We really enjoyed our dinner experience. Fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, encrusted flounder...all very good. And excellent server, Ed!
Best Pecan pie I have enjoyed at a restaurant. Our server, Alice was very professional and provided excellent service. All of our three entrees were truly scrumptious .
First time visitor to Magnolias. Absolutely lovely space. Presentation of the food was divine. I had the pimiento cheese app and the seafood over grits. Wish the entree portion was a bit smaller. While my waiter was attentive, I definitely didn’t get a chance to view or hear the specials for the evening, which was a little disappointing once I heard the other servers around me.
Gracious service, quiet ambience, really lovely imaginative take on southern food.
Fabulous! Our waitress was so friendly and very knowledgeable when it came to gluten free and shellfish allergy accommodations. Highly recommend!!
Great place for a special meal with friends or loved ones. We had waitstaff that made us feel like we were the only customers in the restaurant, and food that was second to none.
Would heartily recommend the green tomatoes to anyone visiting the restaurant.
Wonderful everything—food, service, drinks!!!
Was recommended by a friend to dine at Magnolia's and the food was amazing. Each dish had a southern taste. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Charleston and want a delicious southern meal.
This was my second time at magnolia. I felt that the quality of food was slightly better the first time. Waitress was wonderful. Hostess again not overly welcoming. However overall decent meal big servings.
Excellent food, very nice setting, popular... Must have reservations
Awesome! The fried chicken is to die for. Absolutely the best I’ve had.
Our youngest son (age 24) was visiting from out of town, went on a Sunday after church for lunch. We had a fantastic meal - all three of us; everyone enjoyed everything! The fried green tomatoes were probably the best in Charleston. I know it was "lunch", but I had the Manhattan - probably the best as well - learned it was cherry bitters. Service was perfectly paced and friendly. My only disappointment was the crab bisque...prefer at Slightly North of Broad. That said, this is an outstanding establishment - you will not be disappointed.
Lovely service, food and ambiance! Never disappointed! One of our favorite restaurants in Charleston!
I drive from Pawleys Island often, just to experience a wonderful meal at Magnolias...a change of pace for a delightful Sunday brunch and afternoon in the city of Charleston. Food is always excellence and service is amazing! I am a habitual dining person!!! And this is one of my favorites!!!!
the best restaurant in Charleston for foodies, very consistent in everything, there is a labor of love in everything that is made, incredible effort
What a great dining experience. The wait staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. Mac and cheese appetizer was amazing. It had bacon jam and a hot pepper relish on top. The creme brûlée was one of the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was conducive to conversation and it was great people watching too. I had one small complaint: I got the petit filet and the crab cake. The crab cake was seared and warm but my filet was cold. It was delicious, tender and cooked properly but it was cooked well before the crab. Overall it was one of the best dining experiences in Charleston.
The food was very good. The fried green tomatoes were to die for. But honestly, good food is easy to find in Charleston. What made this place special was the service. Chuck was amazing. He was attentive without being overbearing and he gave great insider tips. I would come back just for him.
Magnolia is one of our all time favorite restaurants in the USA. Today we had lunch at Magnolia. Crab cake sandwich very tasty. My wife very much enjoyed her shrimp and grits. Service was very good, as always. Slade was our waiter. Overall this is a very nice place to have a meal. Be sure to make a reservation. Very crowded.
Magnolias is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. The food and service are excellent and the atmosphere is very nice.
Everyone really enjoyed their meals! I recommend the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was wonderful!
Always a great meal/experience at Magnolias. Food and service is superb. They have a menu to satisfy everyone. The local favorites as well as classic dishes are offered. Wine list is more than adequate. I do love the front room with the hustle and bustle of the bar area. If you need a quieter venue ask for the back room.
Don't get put off by the "fancy" appearance. They accommodate all. Reservations are strongly suggested and promptly honored. Had the duck tjis time...delicious!!
We have dined at Magnolias several times. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. Our most recent visit, however, was far below what we have come to expect from this restaurant. Normally, their fried chicken is among the best I have ever eaten. On this occasion, my wife ordered it and it was rubbery and the accompanying mashed potatoes were dry and lumpy. I tried th bouillabaisse and was severely disappointed. The dish was overwhelmed with mussels. It included only 3 moderately sized shrimp, two scallops, and a couple fragments each of fish and sausage. There were 8 average sized mussels in the shell, which made the dish look much more plentiful than it really was. I was still hungry after finishing it. I hope that Magnolias is not living off its reputation and downgrading the quality and quantity of its food.
The dining rooms are large and tables are close together. Magnolias is oriented toward larger group get togethers rather than intimate dining. We were there on a spring Friday evening and it was filled with families and groups. Everyone enjoying themselves. The menu is large - kind of a something for everyone approach - but execution was not memorable. Wine list not their strength. It’s a classic Charleston destination, but not one we would go back to.
First visit to Magnolias. Wonderful service and food. Recommend this choice spot for the charm and friendliness of Charleston as well as the great food.
Used Foursquare to find a southern place to eat and they did NOT let me down. Walked in with my open table reservations and immediately loved the decor. My waitress Nikki was wonderful and gave wonderful recommendations. Loved their fried green tomatoes and the sausage shrimp and grits.
Dinner with family on our second trip visiting Charleston! It was so good the first time we had to go back!
Best meal of our vacation. Every item was just perfect. Sides where as impressive as the entrées.
It was amazing!
Excellent lunch with friends. Our waiter, Blake, was outstanding. We will be back.
Amazing food and service, excellent and informed servers (Alice is fantastic), wonderful time. The pecan pie was the best I’ve ever had. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer time.
I had one of the specials for the night--the halibut. It was delicious. Others at the table had the flounder which was also very good. Wish the halibut was always on the menu. Would definitely go back.
Had a great birthday dinner at Magnolias. Great ambiance and service impeccable. Food was excellent as was their wines.
We enjoyed our dining experience at Magnolia's. I had a wonderful shellfish and grits dish and my husband said his bouillabaisse was outstanding. We're chicken liver fans and had amazing fried chicken livers as a starter. But perhaps the best part of Magnolia's was our wonderful, skilled, friendly waiter who made the meal even more special. I wouldn't say this was the standout meal of our Charleston vacation, but it was memorable for the overall lovely dining experience.
Nancy was the best waitress,!She gave wonderful recommendations and didn't miss a beat, making our first meal in Charleston one for the record books. The fried green tomatoes and shaved Brussels sprout appetizers were the perfect way to begin our meal. We decided to come here because of a recommendation and I will now recommend it to anyone!
