Igniting a culinary renaissance upon opening in 1990, Charleston's most popular restaurant is located at the site of the city's original Customs House (circa 1739). Led by chefs Don Drake and Kelly Franz, Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with a modern flair for artful presentations.

Magnolias Ratings and Reviews
Our appetizers - green fried tomatoes, fried Mac & cheese, and scallops & grits were decadent and delicious. Menu inventive & fun, service was superb. Didn't care as much for scallops/shrimp with grits in lobster sauce entree-- grits were lumpy and overcooked and I wished they'd put a sear on the blandish seafood they way they did with the appetizer. The flounder special was wonderful--perfectly cooked. We will be sure to visit Magnolias again the next time we're in Charleston, Y'all.
We were visiting Charleston for a few days and reserved at magnolias and FIG. We were so pleased with magnolias and would definitely return when in Charleston. The shrimp and fried liver were outstanding as appetizers. The flounder was fresh and cooked perfectly.
There were four of us, and we all ordered different entrees that we all were delighted with. The food was excellent, and our waiter was a very personable young man who made great suggestions. There are a myriad of restaurants in Charleston, but I am so glad we celebrated a friend's birthday at such a great place - elegant yet comfortable!
Food was amazing -- probably the best meal we had on our trip. Our server was pushy, though, and argued with my mom about how she wanted her fish prepared. She was condescending and nearly had my mom in tears. I understand if the chef doesn't want to make changes, but in the competitive Charleston food scene, servers can't afford to be difficult.
We were immediately seated to our table upon arriving at our designated reservation time of 9:45 pm.; initially I was annoyed that it took our waiter almost 10 minutes to finally greet us/fill our water glasses, but he quickly “recovered” with his attention and knowledge of the menu/wine list,etc......food was exceptional; definitely will return for an encore meal!
Fantastic. Service was flawless. Food was delicious.
Every time I have been to magnolias, it has been a great experience. This time we were comped some champagne as I had recently proposed to my girlfriend. They were also very careful with my fiancées food allergies. This is a gem of Charleston. Would recommend this 100% to anyone!
As always Magnolias delivers on their southern roots approach of uptown down south. The best food combinations mixed with the best food and drinks. Don’t be afraid to order something you have never tried, you won’t be disappointed. The service is top notch but you don’t need to be dressed up to receive it.
Excellent meals based on Southern favorites, all crafted with an eye to the cuisine's roots and excellent techniques. The food was served promptly and with adequate explanation, but could benefit from a bit more discussion of the house's special focus. No discussion of wine or cocktails were provided. The restaurant was very busy and quite loud, so if you are looking for a quiet dinner, this may not be the spot. The meal was priced fairly, and the service was professional.
