The steak had too much fat and the chimichurri was not very tasty. Service was ok. Not sure if I will come back.

Went for anniversary. The restaurant and staff could not have been more accommodating. They printed personalized menus welcoming us on our anniversary. The food, service and atmosphere was amazing.

We love Magnolias ambience and the food is always very good. We have dined there at different times of the day and week on at least seven other occasions in the past 12mo and received both great dishes and spectacular service. I was very disappointed for the first time on the service we received, especially since we were celebrating a birthday. The ambience was great as we were seated by the fireplace as requested and they made their special birthday menus. There were other tables with 4-7 in the same area and felt they received way more attention during their dinners. Our waiter only checked on us once during the main course (at the end of our meal) and was more preoccupied with the other tables. We were checked on three different occasions by the managers and I felt too embarrassed to say something to them especially in front of my wife on her birthday. We love Mags food and hope this was only a one time disappointment.

Was very impressed the food was great the only problem was they only had one set menu instead of their daily menu and I would of liked to been able to choose from other entrees instead of being only able to pick from a couple of menu items.

So, we went for Valentines pre-fixed dinner. It was about 60-70 clams per person. I feel the menu changed from the time I made the reservation to the night of. We were seated right on time and the food was really, really good ...although everything came really fast (felt rushed) and the room was so dark we could not read the menu. I have to add the wine and the cocktails were so good. Overall very please and would come back!

We enjoyed a weekday lunch at Magnolia's and were immediately struck by the interesting architecture and ambiance--the building was an old mill, and overhead you can see the old driveshaft and pulleys that would have driven belts to run machinery.
The service was attentive (though not excessively so), prompt, and very friendly.
As an appetizer, we enjoyed baked brie with crackers, smoked ham, almonds, housemade pickles, jam, and dijon spread. I was impressed by the beer and cocktail list, which included locally-brewed and locally-distilled (Catoctin Creek) offerings; we ultimately ordered a tasty Catoctin rye Sazerac and an artisanal draft root beer. Entrees were snazzy Americana: we selected a jambalaya (topped with crispy fried gator!) and French dip. Sadly, we were too full to keep going, or we would have been delighted to give the dessert menu a try!

Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. When I expressed interest in obtaining a recipe for aioli sauce that went with the calamari appetizer, he had the chef list the ingredients. I had the steak, my husband ordered the scallops. We shared with each other; both were delicious. We always enjoy going to Magnolias. We celebrated Valentine's Day early because Ash Wednesday fell on the 14th this year. Probably missed heavier crowds by doing so.

Not only the best restaurant in Purcellville, the best dining experience we've had in memory. We've been there twice and both times have been phenomenal. Our third trip will be very soon.

We brunch here often, thisctime tine it was entertaining friends for dinner. Food was a little disappointing, the dessert was awesome, the atmosphere was good..the waitress was very polite and served well. It was an enjoyable evening..my wife and I were a little disappointed with the caliber of the food. The Resturant was fully packed,,Always a good sign, the atmosphere was very upbeat. Magnolias is our go to restaurant to celebrate special occasions. Most recently, we celebrated my mother’s birthday. She was touched that the restaurant created a personalized menu with a happy birthday message for her. We highly recommend the restaurant!

I'd been here a year or so ago for a great dinner of prime rib. I made a reservation for my girl friends birthday with 2 requests: 1) lower level seating and 2) a dozen carnations be placed on the table. We were seated on the lower level, but there were no carnations. I over heard the staff mention that they had not seen the request, yet nothing was mentioned to me about their over sight. Fortunately my girlfriend had a pleasant time with her family and I didn't make an issue of the carnations. I'd return, but not make a special request as I had for this visit.

Wow, the food was so fresh and tasty. My son and I both had the chicken fettuccine and the dish was very complex and rustic. YUM! Not only do we have Celiac Disease, which makes it difficult to find a good gluten free option, but recently we've decided to eat cleaner, know where our food source comes from, and this restaurant provided both! You won't be sorry for stopping by, I know we plan to again.

Our experience at Magnolias at the Mill was outstanding! We went with our children for our Anniversary, and the menu had options for every age and every occasion. The service was outstanding, the food was amazing (I was blessed with the occasional menu special Rack of Lamb), and the pastry chef sent out complimentary pastries for my wife and I. We will definitely return, and would recommend Magnolias at the Mill to everyone!

The meal was absolutely delicious! The seafood cocktail, roast, and desert were all incredible. The atmosphere is superb and the staff is very attentive.

Unfortunately, when I made reservations I didnt see that they were doing a special menu for New Years Eve that was a bit more expensive than I anticipated. Completely my fault not the restaurant but you may want to check ahead of time on the menu.

It was my sisters birthday but also the New Year’s Eve menu was starting 30 min after our reservation. Food was good but service was poor. We waited forever for refills and the server didn’t come touch our table once we got our food. She finally came after 20 minutes to check in. We waited for the dessert menu that never came and by the time she realized, I was over waiting, especially with a. Newborn who was about to wake up (all about timing!) so unfortunately we didn’t get dessert or fun dessert drink. And my sisters bday celebration dinner was kind of deflated. We felt like she slacked on us bc we didn’t get the New Year’s Eve menu, when we witnessed her talking to other tables, refilling their drinks etc.

 (New England)·Dined on December 31, 2017

Magnolia's is one of our favorite spots, but this latest visit was disappointing. It's quite a distance from us (1.5 hours), and in this instance, it was a special outing for New Year's Eve. The hostess initially tried to seat us out on the porch, but we prefer the main dining room with the beautiful massive timbers. They did accommodate us - but put us immediately next to the waiters' station, when there were many other better tables available at that point (it was just mid-afternoon). I should have requested a better table, so partially my fault, but I felt guilty, since I had already asked for one change. We started with the Lobster Bisque, which we had remembered as being wonderful, but either our memory was faulty, or the chef is using a different recipe. The tomato base and minced onion overpowered the flavor of the lobster, and it had a soupy, grainy texture - not like your usual creamy bisque. For our next course, I had the Lamb Osso Bucco, which was delectable, but the accompanying risotto was undercooked and slightly crunchy. Possibly pre-cooked in anticipation of the busy night. My husband had the filet, which he enjoyed, but the potatoes served with it were cold. The carmelized whisky onions were excellent, though. Dessert was delicious, although my husband commented his decaf wasn't very hot. The service was unfortunately sub-par as well. Our waiter never checked back with us after serving each course. He in general seemed disinterested/in a hurry, although the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full (plus, because of our table's location, my husband could see him loitering around the waiter's station right behind my back). He did not offer us coffee with our dessert - we had to stop him from walking away so we could add it to our dessert order. But, we will be back, and hope this was just an aberration. We also saw the chef come out to talk to the manager and he didn't look happy, so maybe there was a problem in the kitchen as well.
