Magnolias at the mill Ratings and Reviews
We visit Magnolia's often and always enjoy it but this visit was EXTRA special. We booked through Open Table and noted it was our anniversary. I didn't think anyone would pay attention to this notation but when we sat down and opened our menus the top read, "Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Persell." Once finished with dinner, the waiter presented us with a small gift of chocolates and our custom menus rolled up and tied with ribbon.
We were impressed, they went above and beyond!
Overall we enjoyed our first trip and most everything was excellent. The Fried Green Tomatoes were an unusual treat. The Prime Rib was top-of-the-line. The only negative thing were the drinks. My wife's Manhattan and my Vodka Martini tasted as if they had been watered down. We have been drinking these for over 50 years, so we know how they should taste.
We had Sunday brunch this past weekend at Magnolias and I cannot say enough about the experience. Great selection & food on the buffet, great menu for smaller appetites, and incredible service. Our waitress was upbeat and charming and was always on point, giving us space when we were talking yet checking on us frequently. Buffet food can be hit or miss, especially when it's all you can eat but their selection of entrees and quality of the food was great. Looks like I have my regular brunch spot established from here forward!
Dining at Maggie’s 2-4 times per month on average I enjoy the ambiance and service. The food is usually wonderful but the last two times I ate there the food was mediocre. Steak and calimari are two of my go-to items on the menu and have been disappointed lately. The steak I ordered medium (both times) and had a burnt outer layer with grisel throughout. The calimari portion has been much smaller, filled with fried peppers and doesn’t seem like it had been cooked long enough. Service has been consistently good but just disappointed in my last two visits in the food. Especially for the price.
My wife and I enjoyed another fantastic meal at Magnolia's at the Mill. This is our 4th or 5th visit, and we've always had good experiences. Our dinner, drinks, and dessert were outstanding. Run, don't walk, to dine with the good people and tasty food at Magnolia's!
My wife, her brother, his wife and I went to our 46th Anniversary and her Birthday. The food and the menu were fine however, unlike previous years, my wife was not offered a dessert to celebrate this event (as most restaurants do) as we had received for the previous 4 years were went to Magnolias. We were informed that it was not a policy and were surprised by this development. The manager did provide us with a complimentary dessert after I had returned to the restaurant to get our forgotten doggie bag . I hope this policy is classified for the future so that I can plan accordingly.
We always enjoy dining at Magnolias, especially for the Sunday Brunch, as we have done many times. The food is always delicious and the atmosphere relaxing. Our server was prompt and thorough. We received a friendly greeting when we arrived, and were promptly escorted to our seats.
One suggestion I would offer is for them to make the restaurant a cell phone free zone. At the table next to us a child watched videos on her cell phone the entire time, speakers blaring, no earphones. Sometimes parents don’t take responsibility for their own children. Otherwise, an enjoyable experience.
Saturday night is usually a poor night to expect top flight service, but this last one was worse than most. Food arrived incorrectly prepared. Some was sent back because the “hot” soup was only warm, so we were told a new one would reappear. Instead, they just mico’d the old one.
The “warm” tart with ice cream dessert was cool.
We had to ask several different servers for various missing items, like bread, coffee sweeteners, etc.
Our vegan guest, who specified what he could eat, had to send back his dish with crumbled cheese. And so on.
I doubt we’ll be back anytime soon.
We ate here on our honeymoon last year and came back for our one year anniversary. The food was delicious once again, and the special touches for our anniversary were awesome. Service is great as well. Will definitely keep Magnolia’s on our list when we’re in the area!
Excellent friendly and relaxed service for our 25th wedding anniversary. Food and ambience were outstanding. The fiery shrimp rolls amazed. Seafood and steaks were perfect with sides as good as the main event.
Beer selection was best ever.
Magnolias is a gem.
We went to Magnolia at the Mill to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and we could not speak more highly of the restaurant! They made us feel especially welcome with a specially printed menu wishing us a happy anniversary since I mentioned it when I made the reservation. To start, we selected a wine from the special Virginia wines menu which was a perfect pairing with the meal as recommended by our lovely server. Additionally, I would highly recommend everything we ordered: crab fondue as an appetizer, then the scallops and filet mignon dinners. The complimentary bread and butter were also amazing. Cannot wait to return next time we're in the area!
Our server was very slow and we were at a 4-top table as was a number of couples in our area and being only about 50% full in the area of the mill it was extremely loud. The food was great. Ordered the cheese plate was surprised that we were not told what the cheese selections were or the meat selections.
Ordered the Filet Migon - I would pass next time the bourgineous was flavorless the Prime rib was delicious.
The staff here are very accommodating to a number of different special dietary restrictions. Very knowledgeable about what they offer and alternatives. Great wine list and fabulous desserts if you can save room for it. Very generous meal portions. Always a wonderful time dining here for very special occasions.
Second time dining at the mill. The first experience was phenomenal the second however, was a different story. A table of four. Two dishes came out with cold sides and moderately warm main course. I had a filet that was over charred and tasted more like a sirloin. The fourth dish came out fine. It was French onion soup and a salad. Service was slower than previous and not attentive. Not sure if they had low staffing or what. Great atmosphere but this visit was lacking and for the price you expect better.
Excellent dinner service and ambience. It was our anniversary and the staff made it special. Even with a personalized menu. Outstanding. We will be back and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Food wine desert service all top notch. Kudos to all. Thank you for a great time.
The best part was our friendly waiter, the next best part was the food, then the ambience in the enclosed patio room that's got a lot of natural light, yellow paint and pretty flower pictures. However, the prices are high. Salad entree was small and relatively unadorned compared to your chain restaurants. Hardly any dressing. No complimentary bread. I left hungry. Husband's burger was large and tasty but the avocado (guac?) was brown. Patio smelled like old fish. People were eating seafood but it still smelled unappetizing. Interior dining room is dark and dingy. Overall just okay.
One can always expect good food for lunch at Magnolias. We enjoyed Serrano burger and french dip sandwiches. Both with yummy fries. Side salad was very small and simple for $5 but came with tasty cabernet dressing. Pumpkin cheesecake with caramel sauce was exceptional.
Magnolias is our go-to spot in Purcellville. Good menu and service. But this visit was not up to their usual standards. Service was very poor! Food delivery times were twice as long as normal. The waitress forgot to bring items, like cream for tea, until asked twice. Very unlike a normal visit. And it was a Sunday evening with a relatively light crowd.
