Magnolias at the mill Ratings and Reviews
Our experience at Magnolias at the Mill was outstanding! We went with our children for our Anniversary, and the menu had options for every age and every occasion. The service was outstanding, the food was amazing (I was blessed with the occasional menu special Rack of Lamb), and the pastry chef sent out complimentary pastries for my wife and I. We will definitely return, and would recommend Magnolias at the Mill to everyone!
The meal was absolutely delicious! The seafood cocktail, roast, and desert were all incredible. The atmosphere is superb and the staff is very attentive.
Unfortunately, when I made reservations I didnt see that they were doing a special menu for New Years Eve that was a bit more expensive than I anticipated. Completely my fault not the restaurant but you may want to check ahead of time on the menu.
It was my sisters birthday but also the New Year’s Eve menu was starting 30 min after our reservation. Food was good but service was poor. We waited forever for refills and the server didn’t come touch our table once we got our food. She finally came after 20 minutes to check in. We waited for the dessert menu that never came and by the time she realized, I was over waiting, especially with a. Newborn who was about to wake up (all about timing!) so unfortunately we didn’t get dessert or fun dessert drink. And my sisters bday celebration dinner was kind of deflated. We felt like she slacked on us bc we didn’t get the New Year’s Eve menu, when we witnessed her talking to other tables, refilling their drinks etc.
Magnolia's is one of our favorite spots, but this latest visit was disappointing. It's quite a distance from us (1.5 hours), and in this instance, it was a special outing for New Year's Eve. The hostess initially tried to seat us out on the porch, but we prefer the main dining room with the beautiful massive timbers. They did accommodate us - but put us immediately next to the waiters' station, when there were many other better tables available at that point (it was just mid-afternoon). I should have requested a better table, so partially my fault, but I felt guilty, since I had already asked for one change. We started with the Lobster Bisque, which we had remembered as being wonderful, but either our memory was faulty, or the chef is using a different recipe. The tomato base and minced onion overpowered the flavor of the lobster, and it had a soupy, grainy texture - not like your usual creamy bisque. For our next course, I had the Lamb Osso Bucco, which was delectable, but the accompanying risotto was undercooked and slightly crunchy. Possibly pre-cooked in anticipation of the busy night. My husband had the filet, which he enjoyed, but the potatoes served with it were cold. The carmelized whisky onions were excellent, though. Dessert was delicious, although my husband commented his decaf wasn't very hot. The service was unfortunately sub-par as well. Our waiter never checked back with us after serving each course. He in general seemed disinterested/in a hurry, although the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full (plus, because of our table's location, my husband could see him loitering around the waiter's station right behind my back). He did not offer us coffee with our dessert - we had to stop him from walking away so we could add it to our dessert order. But, we will be back, and hope this was just an aberration. We also saw the chef come out to talk to the manager and he didn't look happy, so maybe there was a problem in the kitchen as well.
As usual, our meal at magnolias was outstanding. Sean Malone, the host (and owner) always makes sure our meal and service is excellent, and it was this time, as well. My salmon was superb, as was my wife's steak. Our server took great care to make sure each course was brought in a timely fashion. All in all, a wonderful evening. I highly recommend Magnolias for any occasion.
Wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. We had the Shrimp and Grits which were perfect, the grits were magnificent in particular. And the Steak Frites - ordered rare - were cooked exactly as rare should be and served with lovely greens and poutine that was delicious. We also had their "deviled eggs two ways" which were a treat and their Apple Tart was a great finish. OK, coffee and water ran dry for a bit, but it was a busy holiday season lunch. All in all lovely.
The food, service and ambiance never disappoint at this restaurant, our favorite for dinner dates, and when family comes to visit. The variety of food is extensive, there is something for everyone. Food and service are consistently excellent. Highly recommend!
I have enjoyed going here for years, but our visit this time was a little disappointing. The steak was over-seasoned and service was not as attentive as on previous occasions (we were there for a birthday). Will return for lunch/brunch etc, but probably not for a special occasion.
Usually very good restaurant. Don't know if it was because they were extremely busy but the service was really slow and everyone's steaks were overcooked. Paying 40 bucks for a steak and asking for it medium rare and it coming out burnt and well done is unacceptable. If i was paying for it and not my boss i would have sent it back. My other co-workers asked for medium and got overly well done as well
First time at Magnolia’s Went to the Nutcracker at Loudoun Valley High School then stopped by and had a bottle of wine, Potato Leek soup and crab/artichoke cheese dip as appetizers. Everything was wonderful and we want to come back....Wait staff was very friendly and attentive
We treated a friend to dinner for Christmas. My friend ordered a steak and asked for it to be cooked medium well. We got our food and his steak came back medium rare. He never said anything but about 10 minutes into the meal , I noticed he was having issues with tough fat in the steak and there was a lot of it. He had never been to Magnolia’s before. I’m a little embarrassed and disappointed at the quality of the steak and the fact that his steak was not even cooked as he ordered it. We had told him how good the steaks were at Magnolia’s. Everything else was good but I’m still disappointed!!
Great food, service and atmosphere. We made a reservation for 6 guests on a Saturday night in December. We got a wonderful table in the upper level, seated right away. It was perfect for conversation, with a nice view of the holiday decor throughout the restaurants.
Everyone loved their food.
My wife and I went there for our 5th year annivesary, as I had proposed to her a year prior. We have celebrated every anniversary there, for the first time service was horrible. The waitress took over 20 minutes to see us after we were seated. Took our orders and never asked us how our food was, nor she ever ask us if we wanted more drinks. The food was great, which it alsways is every time we go. We started off our evening and finished it at the bar, Mathew and the other gentleman were great. They absolutely made up for diner and manger gave us a card, which was a nice touch. Except for the dinner service the evening was amazing, you can’t ruin an anniversary when there are others that ensure you have a good one.
We were a table of 8 celebrating a birthday, and we needed separate checks (always a pain for a server), had someone who needed gluten free, as well as having 2 people that had to eat quickly to get to the airport. Our server, Brandon, was amazing and handled it all with ease, and a good sense of humor! Our food was amazing, and our friend was touched by the birthday candle in her desert! Everyone said they will definitely be back!
