Magnolias at the mill
Food was ok. The French onion soup very salty and thick. It was loud and service was slow but not terribly slow.
Second time we’ve been here and it was just as good as the first time. The service was great and all the food was delicious! Great place for a date or a family dinner.
Our waiter Ryan was subpar. He started off very attentive and strong. But he ended up being allusive and somewhat inconsistent and inconsiderate.. This is very discouraging as our previous visit ended up the same way. Kristin was our waitress that time. We love the food and atmosphere of Magnolias, but the wait staff of late is having us seriously considering never coming back. And that is a huge and unfortunate shame. If only the wait staff lived up to the high standards the restaurant had.
Magnolias at the Mill was a wonderful restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. They greeted us at the door, told us our table was waiting and the menu had a "congratulations" banner. It was a very nice touch.
Service was attentive without being overbearing and the food was wonderful, from soup to dessert. I don't think you could make a wrong choice. We had French onion soup, swordfish, salmon Oscar and dessert. We have been to Magnolia's for lunch and will keep it on our list of favorite restaurants.
We had their Sunday Brunch on a Sunday at noon. We were seated in a sort of enclosed porch area rather than the main dining room. It was a pleasant area to sit (more windows and light than the rather dark main dining room), but that is where they had also put 3 large groups! So area was quite loud and quieted noticeably as each group left - whew! Also, that area was long and kinda narrow, and to get to our table it felt a bit like running the gauntlet between two long tables where two of the large groups were sitting. I could BARELY walk between the backs of those guests chairs, so it was especially not a good place to sit to enjoy a buffet where you must get up several times to get your food.
The food, however, was quite tasty, except that the headliner prime rib was disappointing - it was not tender and had some gristly bits through it and there wasn't much if any seasoning on the outside. All else that I tried was very tasty and everything was very nicely presented. The caramel bread pudding was teh highlight of the meal.
Outstanding brunch buffet with prime rib and shrimp and grits.
My only suggestion would be to request a downstairs table. Upstairs was a little noisy.
Overall, great experience, food, staff, atmosphere.
Next time, when you serve chilled White Wine, please ensure that there is at least a wine cooling sleeve or bucket to keep it chilled...
Great experience! Wonderful food and service.
One of our favorite places to get a bite to eat in Purcellville. The food is excellent and the ambiance is great! The servers are normally very attentive but occasionally get distracted with large numbers of customers. Nonetheless, it's a great place and one that we'll go back to again and again.
Took out some colleagues from CO. Great food as always. Waiter even picked up it was someone birthday and brought a candle-laden dessert with no prompt.
They went as far as printing Happy Birthday on the menu for my mother’s birthday. Great wait staff and delicious food.
Great as always
My first experience here, it was very memorable. I believe the "Fried Green Tomato's" were no doubt the best I've ever tasted. We dined on the prime rib and filet, these were cooked to perfection and our server was outstanding. I completely understand the multiple Zagat Awards won here. I will return...
Despite reservation, seated late. Waiter took forever to bring drinks. Ordered food and received main course literally at same time as appetizers. Food was just dumped on table, no apologies, no attempt to hold back until we were done. Waiter seemed genuinely confused as to why this was not ideal. Food was salty, and uninspiring. No manager in sight. Restaurant tables and decor tired and need attention. For what is considered one of the best restaurants in Northern Virginia, they need to brush up on dining etiquette, food, decor and customer service. Very disappointing for what should have been a special occasion.
I love the bison burger here. Other food is really good as well and sitting on the patio is always nice.
Always and dependably a great place to dine with friends and family!
Great outdoor ambiance, but that's the best part of the restaurant. Medium burger was well-done. Salad was way too over-dressed...so much that the lettuce was wilting. When the lady brought our food, we told her we ordered sweet potato fries (not the regular fries) and asked for a side of mayo. She said that mayo was already on the burger (who cares? I still want a side of mayo!) and she would bring an order of sweet potato fries. Five minutes later, we got neither. By the time our waitress came back, I had finished half of my burger. We ended up returning the salad.
We came about 5 years ago to Magnolias and were not impressed. We were in the area and thought we'd give it a second chance...I guess we'll wait for another 5 years...
Visited Magnolias at The Mill for brunch with a friend. We were seated immediately and our server came over in about 2 minutes to take our drink order. After reviewing the specials and the menu, my friend and I decided to each get one of the brunch specials. The food was delivered in a very timely manner. I had ordered the "Maggie's" special which included eggs, bacon, link sausage (sourced from a local farm), a patty sausage, homestyle potatoes which had a very distinct garlicky presence, and sourdough toast. The potatoes could have been cooked longer because they needed more of a crispy finish, and the bacon was definitely undercooked as it was soft and chewy.....no crispness at all.
My friend ordered the Frittata plate, and other than the same opinion of the cook on the potatoes that I had, she was very pleased with her choice.
Overall, this was an enjoyable visit to Magnolias and I shall return soon.
Great date night spot. We celebrated our anniversary and it was very special. The upstairs area is very cool.
My wife and I found Magnolia's about 4yrs ago when looking for a new anniversary place. Something different that we wouldn't be able to get to regularly. They always make it a personal experience, the food is always great, and the service is spot on. Went for our 8yr Anniversary and they did not disappoint. Crab fondue to start, swordfish and a short rib for the main course, and finished off with a chocolate mousse. Perfect meal.
We sat on the outside patio, which was lovely. Service was so very professional and the food fresh. We will be back.
Fried green tomatoes were delicious! We both got salads. I had the Caesar and I can’t remember what my friend had, but she said it was delicious. I started out with their mussels in white wine. Very good. I’ve eaten here several times and have not been disappointed. Service good.
An excellent place.
Had a great meal and love the food. Got the ribeye and scallops both were delectable. Servers had trouble speaking about the wine and getting the bottle open but we’re very friendly and cordial and attentive. Would definitely go back!
We had a beautiful fun anniversary. Our names with Happy Anniversary on our menu blew my mind with surprise. Great touch and enjoyed everything.
Magnolias is always a great way to spend a family dinner or date night. Great food with wonderful ambiance and superb service.
We specified that this was our anniversary dinner and the host wished us a happy anniversary after seating us and the menus said the same...such a cool touch! Service and food were exceptional. Awesome experience.
Service needs tons of improvement, but other than that it was great! Food was excellent, view was great.
Back room is noisy
Server was excellent
Process somewhat out of line (high) For Purcellville
The food is outstanding but the service is inconsistent. The tables around us were served bread, we were not. It took a couple minutes for water, but then about 15 min for our drinks. We've had Old Fashioned's there before and they were great, this time they tasted like fruit juice. Those inconsistencies made it difficult to enjoy the entire experience.
Was seated immediately, service was outstanding, food was great. Steaks cooked to perfection.
The food was amazing, including a very creative and comprehensive gluten-free menu. Our server was knowledgeable and very professional. The view from the nearby window was pretty, looking out on outdoor seating and a flowering bush. Overall we had a wonderful time.
we were seated on the porch, near the window as the sun was setting.
we were warmly greated at the door; wait service was excellent--knowledgeable, friendly, attentive without being cloying, responsive to our requests, very good recommendations about the drinks and menus. Food was excellent in variety, presentation and taste. We were there 2 1/2 hours, but never rushed by staff. This is a good place to eat!
Had the lamb, it was great. Service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed dinner.
Great food as always.
Excellent meal. We look forward to returning. Thank you!
All was good. Server arrived promptly and returned to check on us frequently. Food arrived warm to hot and was excellent-meat loaf, French dip special, Reuben, soup. Salad. All recommended. Some sweet potato fries not cooked enough (still hard) but tasty. Comfy booth. Will be back. Believe it’s better than Tuskies.
