Magnolias at the mill Ratings and Reviews
We had a most enjoyable lunch - the chicken special and the steak. It was fun to see an Austrian wine from Anton Bauer on the wine list. We each had a glass. The key lime pie and banana cheesecake concluded a delicious experience. We hope to return again soon.
We have been to Magnolias many times and this particular time I brought my business partner. This was their first time. My disappointment was how long it took for someone to come to our table and great us, provide water etc. It so happened that a staff member Ducet was passing by and asked if we had been served someone. We said no and she pointed to the staff member who had our table. I wanted to get eye contact with the individual but it was not to be. I then asked Ducet to help us and she did. From that moment we had the service I had come to expect from Magnolias.
I would also point out that the staffers who bring you your food could have smiled and at least displayed an appreciation for us the customer. I noticed with every coarse delivered the staff simply never smiled even after thanking them for their service. Not what I have experienced in the past from Magnolias.
We ordered four different items-the pork two ways was enjoyed by my son-in-law. The Chicken and Ravioli was enjoyed by my daughter. The prime rib was especially enjoyed by my husband. I ordered the ribs and they were especially spicy which I do not particularly like and would have liked to have known that before I ordered them. They were also very dry. I only ate 1/2 of one of the racks. The cole slaw was old and warm. I did say something about this and they brought me a salad but I really like cole slaw with ribs. 3 out of 4 meals isn't bad.
There were 4 of us. We all ordered different entrees and all were excellent! Service was also very good. The only negative comment is that the charcuterie plate was not very good in comparison to most that we have ever had. Needs upgrading! Otherwise, a great dining experience
Magnolias seems to have lost a little something, service was slow and a couple of our meals were undercooked. Management made up for it with complimentary dessert but I am leary of giving them another chance with prices associated with meals known for better quality.
This was my third visit to Magnolia's. We were a group of 5 and I seem to be the only unhappy one, so it might have been my meal choice. The steak had a sauce over which had very little taste. The seafood melody was tasteless. The Brussel sprouts were done to a crisp, the mash potatoes were great however. The waitress was excellent and made the bland meal much better by her attentiveness and personality. I repeat, the other 4 in my party were pleased with their meals.
Usually we really enjoy Magnolias but this time we were seated in a "back" room that really had no ambiance at all. It was just my husband and I and most of the other tables were larger groups. The one party seated next to us was a group of eight women that were a bridal party.
We will definitely dine at Magnolias again but will always request to be seated in the main room.
Great service, the food was just as we ordered and tasted wonderful.
The price does not reflect the quality of food or service. It's a small town restaurant with city prices. 4 adults for dinner and we were seated on the side porch, fine for lunch. They're touted has fine dining. We've never had a fine dining experience there.
Celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary here on 7/21/17. Magnolias has been highly recommended for a long time and we were finally able to dine there. It was fantastic. Our server was completely knowledgeable in every aspect. Service was prompt. Food was delicious. Cocktails delicious and refreshing. Appetizers to dessert, everything was spectacular! We can't to return to try more of this wonderful menu!
We've been here before, but will never go again. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated on the porch. The whine of the air conditioning was almost deafening. The service was awful, especially since our server only had two tables (the place was nearly empty). Our server would stand at the bar chatting with other staff and ignored our frequent attempts to get her attention. The other server in our section was such a loud talker that all conversation had to stop when he was speaking to another table.
Our food was less than ideal - undercooked fillet and scallops that we're overly seasoned. The crab and artichoke dip was bland and was not worth the expense.
It was an all around terrible experience that cost a small fortune. We've always loved magnolia at the mill, but won't ever go again. It's too expensive to risk another terrible experience.
We have been to magnolias many times in the past this is the first time that I would consider the service subpar, seemed like waitress could not keep up with all of her tables… Food has always been excellent this particular time my steak had to be sent back three times and in the end the outside was completely charred and the inside was well done, they put a brown sauce over the steak in an attempt to cover up the outside being so chard. The manager seemed shocked and taken aback by the fact that the steak had to be sent back three times. This was the most expensive steak on their menu and if they were unable to cook it per request because it was a thick cut of meat they should have said so ahead of time. By the time they got my meal to me everyone else in our party was completely done eating this is never good . I did also notice other tables sending items back for correction not sure what has changed in the kitchen but something has changed. For the prices that are charged at magnolias customers should absolutely expect the service and the food to be perfect every time not just some of the time .
My salad came with seared tuna chunks but I didn't know that that meant that the interior is not cooked. I asked the server of my misunderstanding and whether they would cooked the pieces. They cooked them through and were still tender, juicy and very flavorful. I was very delighted! The seating in the sun-filled solarium part of the restaurant was ideal for this summer early evening.
First time coming to Magnolia. Had heard such great things plus we had been to Tuscarora Mill and it was great. So we were excited to see what the sister restaurant had to offer.
Begin by saying the waitress didn't remember the specials. Service was slow.
We ordered crab fondue dip was a total disappointment. I should have known when all I could see was imitation crab! What? At a an expensive restaurant like this are you kidding me?!? Then we had asked for veggie sticks or something gluten free for the dip. Was not told they were going to charge me extra for this. They brought out Brazilian cheese balls which were over cooked. We know what they are supposed to taste like as you can get them from Wegmans freezer aisle.
Our son ordered the $42 NY strip. At that price you would expect a great steak. Wrong! It was burnt on the outside, asked for medium rare, and the steak itself had no flavor. Worst steak we have had.
I ordered the bison burger medium rare and my first bite was cold!
My daughter ordered the classic burger and it was drenched in sauce.
Needless to say we were completely disappointed and after spending nearly $200 on food that was ill prepared and made with cheap ingredients we won't be back and will let others know. We are a family of 5 and going out is an expense we take seriously and cannot do all the time.
We live in the neighborhood and frequent Magnolias at least once a month. We take all of our out of town guests there because it is such a unique restaurant. 75% of the time the food and service are fantastic. Unfortunately on this particular night, it was very disappointing. Even though I specified on the reservations that it was a birthday dinner, there was no mention of it by the hostess or waiter. I requested a booth or a table upstairs, and we were squished into a semicircular banquette . No room for the plates and everyone's knees were touching. The filet and the crab cakes were fine, but the 2 burgers and sweet potato fries came out cold. It took forever to be served and by that time my daughter was so hungry she wasn't about to complain and send it back. I honestly think they forgot the food because people who came in after us were served before us. And the server who delivered the food looked and acted stoned out of his mind and had a hard time with the tray. He almost dumped a plate into my lap. We were just there 3 weeks ago with an out of town friend and it was a much different experience. The menu and the service on that night were phenomenal. The menu changes frequently which is great, but on this night it was limited and largely unappealing. Their fish special was shrimp and lobster pasta-- no fresh fish! I usually would have discussed my concerns with the manager but because it was my daughter's birthday, I didn't want to ruin her night. We will be back and I sincerely hope things will be remedied.
Mussels were good but several were dead and not opened. The Groucho rib eye had very little flavor and was overlooked. The chimichuro sauce was bland...not enough garlic. The strawberry shortcake parfait had very tart/not sweet strawberries and the pastry cream was tasteless and you could taste uncooked flour in it. Not my favorite meal at this restaurant that I typically love.
My review is colored by our reservation not being acknowledged. Having said that, we liked our seating in the sunroom.
The buffet was ho-hum but inexpensive. We chose our entrees from the menu. My steak frites was overdone and dry. Our waiter was "too cute" for our taste.
Was a bit disappointed on this trip for Sunday Brunch... the price was high for the amount of buffet selections... and the temperature of the food was just warm. The bacon was a bit undercooked... and lack of heat contributed to the level of grease.
Our a la carte selection ended up being given to another table... so by the time it arrived, the other members of the family were finishing. There was also a problem with some curdled creamer for the coffee.
With that said, the waiter made good on crediting the two mishaps... and the mill environment is an interesting place to eat!
