I included a note requesting a quiet, intimate seat for a birthday dinner. I was very surprised when I received a call confirming the reservation noting my request. Magnolia even requested our first names so they could print custom menus which was a nice touch. Food was very good and service was excellent. We certainly plan to return.

We came here while staying in a Harpers Ferry B&B because there’s nothing great in HF... it was a winding drive, but not bad, and about 30 minutes. Worth it! Friendly professional service and great food. We shared a Caesar salad and the kitchen split it for us and gave us each our own yummy crouton and half deviled egg. Focaccia with the olive oil on the table was really good (we salted and peppered the oil). And I got scallops on menu, hubby got the bison burger and fries. Both were phenomenal. We shared a crime brûlée and had coffee... hot and yummy! My Chardonnay by the glass at $9 from CA was a buttery and slightly oaky. Hubby got one beer he didn’t care for and it was quickly replaced by one he loved - Devils Backbone Vienna lager. Wish we lived closer... this would be a staple in our rotation!

The breakfast buffet looked fantastic but we stuck to the lunch menu and my meatloaf with super smooth mashed potatoes and green beans was delicious. The pomegranate cocktail was outstanding.

Magnolias has a wonderful and unique ambiance. The interior of the old mill has been wonderfully preserved. Add to that a great menu, wonderful food, spectacular service and you have a true destination restaurant. Strong wine list includes local Virginia wines. Parking can sometimes be hard to find (try behind the building next door), but that's really they only drawback.

My husband and I had lunch at Magnolias on a weekend celebration of our 20th anniversary (Nov. 3, 2018). The service was wonderful and the staff printed a special souvenir menu with a Happy Anniversary message for us to take home. The menu was very diverse with a great selection of options. Everything we ordered was amazingly delicious (particularly the Pickle Juice Bloody Mary, the Spicy Seared Tuna starter, the Butternut Squash Bisque, and their complimentary focaccia). We will definitely return to dine at Magnolias again! The outdoor patio seating looked wonderful with the W&OD bike trail running right past it, and hopefully on our next visit the weather will be nice enough to sit outside to enjoy the atmosphere.

Magnolia's was great, but we had a problem with Open Table. I made reservations online and was asked to confirm them later. I did, but when my significant other called to make surprise birthday arrangements, they said they had no record of the reservations. Fortunately, she was able to make reservations for a little later time. Magnolia's was full, which accounted for the noise level, but we still had a very good time. The food was excellent, the server very good, and our experience overall was great.

We big asked for steaks cooked medium and they were delivered charred and well done. We waited a while and we’re hungry so ate them, but for the reviews I had read and the price I had expected better. The service was excellent. Sides and starters, soup and salad also very good. Crab and mushroom chowder not so great, too thin and not very “chowder”-like.

We have enjoyed Magnolias since it first opened years ago. What a gem to have this restaurant in our town. Our anniversary dinner was wonderful as usual but the overall experience was not their best. Homecoming was the same night as our anniversary and it was pretty obvious that they had overbooked reservations for the evening. Three hours after we arrived, we paid the bill. Of course we will continue to eat at Mags, everyone is entitled to an off evening.

Ambience was wonderful, food was good, but the service was subpar. Took ten minutes for a server to arrive after being initially seated. Then for most other requests, we had to get the server's attention because he was not proactive. We had to prompt him for the starter (appetizer), to let him know we were ready to order entrées, for additional cocktails, for desert, and the finally the check. Virtually no proactive engagement from the server. Granted, he was pleasant when we actually DID get his attention, but it shouldn't be my job to get it for so many things. And we're not "needy" guests I swear. lol

Personally, with all the competition from other good restaurants in the NOVA area, we probably won't be back to Magnolia's even though we loved the other positive points. If you don't have good service, you don't have a great business.

The service was poor, as the waiter never refilled our water until we were leaving, and the food for one of us was undercooked. When that was pointed out the waiter took the plate, but just returned the same food heated, versus new, which did not taste good re-heated. The food was also overpriced for what was received. We will never go to Magnolias again unless there are major changes.

Just an other way too expensive place living off of a hoity toity reputation from the past, in a place where many people are simply happier when they spend more than something is worth. Our four year old was so excited to go out to dinner for her birthday, but the $11 dollar kids pizza was like cardboard with pepperoni on it, and after a $110 meal they even charged us for one lousy scoop of ice cream on her birthday. We celebrated a birthday at Magnolia’s and had a lovely dinner. We could actually hear of friends across the table without shouting. The meal was well timed out, we never felt rushed from one course to the next. Filet mignon was perfect - I’m always surprised when there is enough salt on the food. Shrimp in the shrimp cocktail could have been colder but they were fresh and well-sized. Looking forward to our next visit.

Nice place, good selection - but was expected better given the reviews. Lobby/Entrance too small and congested. I don't think the waiter ever put in the appetizer we ordered (never came, never charged). They were out of the beer we ordered. Burger was ordered medium well, came rare/medium rare. Glad we tried, won't be back.

This was our second time to Magnolia, and the food and ambiance were great. Regarding the service: although she was perfectly pleasant, it seemed like our server was a bit in the weeds throughout the night so there was definitely some lag time between courses along with dishes waiting to be cleared. Overall it was a nice experience and although we won't be back soon, I'm sure we'll revisit again down the road.

We dine at Magnolias at the Mill often (live in Purcellville). Food, service, etc. always good. I rated lower this time because my ribeye was cooked rare to medium rare when I asked for medium. I know if I had told the waitress that it was not cooked properly that she would have taken it back to the kitchen to cook it more, but then my wife would have been eating alone--which I why I just at it as is.

Magnolias is one of our favorite places to take friends and guests. The food is reliably good and the specials are always fabulous. However, the last few times we have been, we have had to wait 15-20 minutes past our reservation time, and they seem a bit understaffed. No doubt this is just because it's high traffic times, but still worth noting. Also a good drink selection.

We enjoyed our first visit to the restaurant and we will likely be back. We were kindly greeted and our table was ready right at the time of our reservation.

The salads were fresh and tasty. The entrees were good. They were well prepared and tasted fine, although we were not "wowed" by the food.

The service was efficient. Our waiter checked several times during the meal and it never felt intrusive.

The decor was interesting. Capturing and retaining elements of an old mill, including the history of the building published in the menu, was fun to view and learn about.

I would like to try the restaurant out one more time. Just won’t come on a Sunday dinner. Think it is second fiddle to the brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation and was our anniversary dinner. Table was ready and we were greeted with smiles. Our server presented herself well but did not delivery a good sequence of service. Ordered the Chinese street food app and it had good potential in writing but did not deliver on the plate. Dumplings were cold. Noodle salad may be better with soba noodles. Wontons were a bit over fried. Firecracker shrimp were the star of the plate but had bursted open a bit. Had bronzini and loved the flavors. Wife probably would have had a good dish but it was rang in wrong she got the forage plate with add steak. It came with salmon, sure it had sat in window for a bit then steak was rushed cooked and chewy when came out. We never got offered another cocktail after dinner. Dessert was the lemon butter cake and was good just need to be served warmer. Like I said think Sunday dinners are rough for restaurant staff and we plan on trying again just during a more peak time we everyone is fresh and on there game.

Magnolia’s is always a great meal with atmosphere. The only thing that didn’t live up to its reputation yesterday was attention to detail of service. My friend ordered a salad and changed the dressing and to have it on the side. The original dressing came on the side, not the one she ordered. I ordered a soup and small salad. I was asked if I wanted them together, I said yes. I was asked if I wanted my salad dressed, I said yes. I got the soup first. And then when my salad came it was undressed with the dressing on the side.

Details like matter at a restaurant like Magnolia’s. I’ll be back, don’t worry. However, the wait and kitchen staff need to pay attention to the details. Perhaps you need an expediter.
