Magnolia House by Kelly English Ratings and Reviews
Magnolia House is the true gem of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The food and the service are both impeccable. What you would expect from fine dining and then some. We had the Crab au Gratin with Crostinis for an appetizer. It was huge and so delicious. You won't be sorry you ordered it. For starters, we had the wedge salad, which had a modern twist with butter lettuce, olives and a Creole ranch dressing...divine, and the She Crab Soup, which was the best we had ever had. Chef must have a secret ingredient, because it was so smooth and decadent. For mains, we had she Sea Bass with a corn risotto and the dry aged prime bone in ribeye with lobster mashed potatoes. Wow! Just Wow! Incredible!!!!! The evening was only made better by our favorite waiter, Nick. He's a very personable guy and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Exactly what you want..extremely hard working, but makes time for any and all questions. Our assistant, Jacques, finished out the wonderful experience for us. A warm welcome, great smile and a helpful hand, Jacques was an awesome addition to the night. Thank you Magnolia House for another exquisite dinner.
Have eaten here before and love the place, but the food quality was not what I had last time. I guess it depends on who is cooking back in the kitchen. The fryer cook must have been new. Fried green tomatoes over fried, and the crab claws were not the same cheesy batter as last time. But the entrees!!!!! Oh my. Very, very good. Fresh. Tasty. Just fantastic - both the fish dishes we had. Took almost 15 minutes to get my check when we were done, but I can still taste those entrees in my mouth days later. Excellent.
The atmosphere was soothing and comfortable and where you could sit back and enjoy the meal. Our food was terrific and varied; it was delivered in a timely fashion and in an appetizing display. Portions were certainly large enough to more than satisfy most guest. We enjoyed the meal and the service was first rate.
The service was excellent. Salads were very fresh and tasted great. My husband ordered the sea bass and it was very good. I ordered the scallops and they were so salty that I should have sent them back to the kitchen. The hash brown/bacon was over cooked. Overall I would not recommend Magnolia House. Next trip to Biloxi, we will try a different restaurant.
I had some fantastically creative food that was just tasty, tasty, tasty! The fried crab claws were sprinkled with parmesan that created a taste I have never felt before. Fried green tomatoes were just excellent. Both of our fish dishes were just absolutely delicious. This food is just really, really good.
The food was incredible, especially the cauliflower, bacon and chicken soup! Great by-the-glass wine list; excellent service. Only one negative -- the music was rock and roll mainly. Too loud and too fast-paced for a fine dining atmosphere. Some cool jazz would be better.
We at at this restaurant twice on our trip to Biloxi. Both meals were really good -- had the Sea Bass the first night, and the Beef Rib the second night. Had the spinach oyster salad both nights -- because it is that good. The service is good, very cordial, pleasant atmosphere. Not noisy at all - so good for a nice quite work , date, or personal evening. Strongly recommend it!! We've not been disappointed.
Very nice atmosphere. Great food. But the restaurant was very warm. They said that they informed management to lower the a.c but it never really cooled off. The whole dining experience would have been rated 5 stars if the dining room.would have been cooler.
The food was excellant. Crab cakes were great. There were multiple tables available when we arrived but we were seated at a table by the window which would have been great in most circumstances but the view at that time of night was of the street and cars passing. This definitely took away from the ambiance of the restaurant.
We dined last Saturday night. Finally had luck at slots after a night of losing and called to tell hostess we were running late. She informed us they were absolutely packed and we needed to hurry up. Nice.
Showed up at 7 (30 minutes late, although we called) and place was about 20% full. Were sat and waited not too long to be greeted. Ordered wine and server left. He came back about 20 minutes later to state they were out. Huge pet peeve. If you are out come right back why wait so long? He was super nice and not his fault they were out but the wait to be told was less than desirable.
Beef carpaccio was amazing! That was it. Pork belly tasted like congealed fat ( I know it's all fat but should have a slight crisp).
Steak and lamb chops not edible. Potato old and cold. Again server was nice but he didn't have much to work with.
The food was fantastic. We started with the beef carpaccio. And it was AMAZING! i would order it again and again! We also ordered the avocado and crabmeat shrimp cocktail. But the waitress misunderstood and instead brought an ordinary shrimp cocktail. Nothing special about it, not sure if what we wanted would have been better. The mistake came about when I said " I'll have the carpaccio and he'll have the shrimp cocktail". I meant the menu item, not the scaled down version. I wish the waitress would have clarified the request, but not a huge deal. We ordered drinks and the old fashioned was perfection. However, I ordered a French 85 and they brought a drink in a highball glass over ice. It tasted very good, but since I had my heart set on the French 85, I had to tell them how to make a proper one (never put champagne or cognac over ice!) Then we had the surf and turf! And Wow! was it delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked slightly cool pink center and great char on the outside. It was "stuffed' with fried oysters and bleu cheese and topped with a hollendaise. YUMMY!
Overall, it was a very nice dinner. The service was very good, just a couple of misunderstandings that were resolved adequately. I would certainly ask for our same server Melissa, again. She was attentive without hovering and good with background information about the menu. The music was a little loud for my taste, but certainly didn't take away from a pleasant dining experience.
We've eaten here 3-4 times. This occasion was Father's Day. We were early before the crowd arrived so it was quite and we could enjoy the live pop music. Service was great. The mimosas and bloody Mary's were good. I had the eggs Benedict which were good. My wife had the spinach, tomato and mushroom frittata which was also good. Her side order of grits was under salted and had a strange texture, they were fluffy perhaps with beaten egg whites. The biscuits and muffins were good. Overall this was our best experience at Magnolia House. There is room for improvement in food preparation based all of out experiences.
