One of San Francisco’s most romantic restaurants, the Magic Flute, has a new and exciting menu reflecting California-Italian Cuisine. Located in fashionable Presidio Heights, the restaurant with sponge-painted walls and hardwood floors is reminiscent of a family-run trattoria found in a small Tuscan village. Sunlight streams in through large picture windows in the front dining room, and after dark, Florentine wrought-iron chandeliers, imported from Europe, infuse the room with soft light. The equally beautiful rear dining room looks onto a lovely, flower-filled patio with white Italian marble tables and large Italian market umbrellas that make the heated patio the ideal spot for al fresco dining. Phil LaCavera sees to it that service is personal and attentive. The staff also takes great pride in making each party and wedding a memorable occasion. You won’t find a more enchanting ambiance for your special celebration.

The Magic Flute has always been a "go to" place for weekday lunch and weekend brunch. Having just had dinner there, my party of 4 was impressed with the dinner offerings, the quality and presentation of the dishes we ordered, and the superb service. An added bonus was that the noise level allowed us to maintain a conversation without yelling at one another. Dinner diners should note that the dinner menu is somewhat limited. The night we were there, one of the entrees was not available. Other than that, we had a delightful evening and a delicious dinner.

Magic Flute is a neighborhood restaurant that is located where shopping and residences merge - Sacramento Street. Many of the customers have been eating there for many years - it's hard not to want to return over and over again. My family celebrates there birthdays, reunions with friends, Easter brunch, after-matinee dinners. Phil, the owner, supplies the kitchen with produce from his ranch in Marin - the pies are made at the ranch by his wife and are worth a visit just for them. If you like tony neighborhood restaurants, this one is for you.

Love the food and love the patio but the service is SO slow. We had to approach our waiter for the bill and they were not that busy.

Went for brunch with a couple other people. Our server was at our table the moment we sat down. We ordered drinks and then three different scrambles, all of which were delicious. They were large and served with potatoes and a little sliced fruit. We also had an order of the beignets which were excellent. They are served with a cinnamon whipped cream. There are 3 large beignets on the plate. We will definitely go again. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.

We've been coming here annually (and sometimes for than once/year) for years. Nice ambience, cute, easy to get here from Marin county; parking not always easy but eventually parking can be found (2 hr limit). We try to go out into the patio - a bit quieter.

The back garden area is a lovely place for lunch. It's protected from the wind, and there are heat lamps if it's chilly. We had wonderful service, and our food was quite good. My crab louie salad was full of delicious fresh Dungeness crab and fresh vegetables. The quiche my friend ordered was huge and my other friend had a healthy egg white frittata. Both of their lunch items came with a generous side salad and slices of fresh fruit. Table are far enough apart so that you can carry on a conversation easily without overhearing others. I have been here frequently and intend to return.

We had a lovely brunch on Easter Sunday at Magic Flute. We had a party of 10 people and were seated inside, in the room next to the patio. It was perfect! The restaurant was full, and yet we could easily hear one another at our table. The food and service were both excellent. We originally had made the reservation for four people, about 4 weeks earlier. Then, the week before Easter, we needed to increase to 10 people. The restaurant manager was very kind and rearranged some things to accommodate our large group. We all highly recommend the Magic Flute!

An elderly friend and I enjoyed a birthday lunch at Magic Flute. As requested, we were seated at a quiet table, and enjoyed the ambience of the pretty dining room. The service was incredibly slow, which didn't matter to us, but could have been a problem if time had been tight. The food was good – not exceptional but very competent and pleasant.

It was my first visit there and from the moment my wife and I set out foot in there, we were treated like a long time customer. The owner is very gracious and welcoming. we went there for lunch/brunch and the Cream of zucchini soup was outstanding. Phil the owner asked how was the soup and I said it was fantastic. He said the clam chowder is even better and proceeded to offer a complimentary cup. It was fantastic. The Blackened Salmon and Shrimp Louie salads were perfect. Make sure you leave room for the beignets served with a whipped mascarpone cinnamon cream, strawberries and lemon curd, best beignets yet.

I've been going to the Magic Flute for 25 years, and always find Phil and his family welcoming and warm. The food is creative and consistent, and there are multiple options for a large party or a cozy dinner for two. It's a neighborhood gem, and I can't wait to go back.
