Californian
One of San Francisco’s most romantic restaurants, the Magic Flute, has a new and exciting menu reflecting California-Italian Cuisine. Located in fashionable Presidio Heights, the restaurant with sponge-painted walls and hardwood floors is reminiscent of a family-run trattoria found in a small Tuscan village. Sunlight streams in through large picture windows in the front dining room, and after dark, Florentine wrought-iron chandeliers, imported from Europe, infuse the room with soft light. The equally beautiful rear dining room looks onto a lovely, flower-filled patio with white Italian marble tables and large Italian market umbrellas that make the heated patio the ideal spot for al fresco dining. Phil LaCavera sees to it that service is personal and attentive. The staff also takes great pride in making each party and wedding a memorable occasion. You won’t find a more enchanting ambiance for your special celebration.

Nice ambiance, wonderful service, and a quaint neighborhood. Early reservations on Sunday helped to avoid crowds, reduce noise level and found street parking close by.

Barbarous host sat party arriving after ours before us. Than told me to relax. Will never return. Left a decent tip bc waitstaff not implicated. But the maitre’d lost a customer for good, the tub of lard.

Busboy came up to us right after we signed the bill and said his manager told him he needs to clear the table. He kept apologizing while clearing them which gave off the vibe they wanted us to leave so they could sit another reservation. We literally just paid the check and were there for less than an hour. The manager also sat us at this rickety table for 2 in the patio. When we asked if we could switch we were denied because they said they had a lot of reservations. The patio was half empty the entire time. The owner/manager of this place gives off a pretty rude vibe.

It was absolutely lovely. The food was delicious and the service excellent. They even dealt very graciously with our little ones despite them reaching their limit. It was family friendly, but there were a few people on dates so I would plan bringing small kids carefully, making sure they’re well entertained with toys and books so others can enjoy their dinner also.

The most darling outdoor patio seating! Ivy along the fence, water feature and white marble table tops make for a perfect setting.

Great spot for a group lunch. Nice relaxing atmosphere and no pressure to leave.
I would recommend the lamb burger or the quiche.
Owner is very charming and adds character to the place.

Came over from Oakland to meet a friend in the area. What a charming, neighborhood restaurant. Try the date appetizer and any home made pasta special! Save room for the blueberry pie, by all means. Interesting wine selection and several good beers/ales. The patio, by the way, is not to be missed. A great place to hang out and have that extra cup of coffee before (reluctantly) leaving.

Great food. But they tried to add several ridiculous extra charges to our bill. My wife and I split a salad. But because they brought it out on two plates, there was a $5 charge. And they did that to the other couple we were with as well. There was also an additional charge of $2 to my friend's coffee drink. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise nice dinner.

We had a Mother's Day reservation at Cafe Majestic and when we arrived there were hoards of people standing around and the dining room looked as though they were getting ready to paint. It was complete chaos. There were a number of people, including us, who had made reservations through Open Table and Cafe Majestic had absolutely no record... We could also hear others already seated complaining about the lack of service. We looked around for another place to go and Magic Flute showed-up. We looked at the menu and booked it immediately. Well we have now found a new home for every brunch occasion from now until the end of time... What a spectacular spot! Amazing neighborhood vibe and service that was just off the hook spectacular! The gentleman working the door who appeared to own the place knew everyone there except us but he treated us like family! The menu screams brunch and the quality of the food was divine! We can't wait to go back! Thank you!

Magic Flute is a charming spot. The food is decent though not great. Service is very good and the prices are decent, especially for this part of town. It's a place I'll go back to because it's nearby but wouldn't make a trip to go.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! Our reservations were at 6:30 on a Friday night, and we were the first diners to arrive; by the time we left the restaurant was full, but the noise level was so low we didn't notice. The food and service were excellent. This was my first time dining at Magic Flute, and I will definitely be back.

Had a lovely brunch with salmon benedict, eggs benedict and a scramble with fontina, mushrooms, etc. We ended brunch with beignets which are served with cinnamon whipped cream which are excellent. I had peach juice which I have found nowhere else and it was quite good. Service is always excellent and food is cooked well. We go there often.

My friends and business colleagues like the Magic Flute because of its consistency in hospitality, service, and delicious menu choices. The only drawback is often the lack of parking in the neighborhood, so plan ahead, leave early, and take your time -- a place will eventually appear.

Very nice little neighborhood gem, great food and nice service. Only negative was the old San Francisco pricing, very expensive by the time they put on 20% tip, I really wish restaurants sorted this out, customers shouldn't subsidize the owner - any other country in the world can manage to pay the staff properly and still provide reasonable pricing. Tips should be less than 5% or maybe 10% for large groups if the service was outstanding. When I waited tables in Europe I was very happy to get a few euros left on the table. ps. also charging $2.50 to simply split a salad in two was a bit ridiculous.

This is our favorite place for lunch when we visit the de Young, Cal Academy, or Legion of Honor.

If your a meat lover, try the lamb burger—if you love fish, try the salmon sandwich. Even when you are eating them, you won't believe how delicious they are.

We've been going there for some 15 years!

We chose Magic Flute for lunch based on the terrific reviews, but honestly aren’t sure what the fuss is about. It’s a cute little restaurant with great service, but the food was average at best. The burger was good, and cooked to desired temp, but the chicken on the chicken sandwich was incredibly thin, over cooked and tough. Maybe just an off day in the kitchen.
