Maggiano's - St. Louis Ratings and Reviews
Once again, we enjoyed our annual Thanksgiving meal with you (year #11 for us), and as always, the food was delicious. We have never had any negatives to share until this year; our waiter was very polite and friendly but seemed inexperienced and was not always efficient in getting our food to us; in fact, we never did receive another bowl of creamed corn that we had requested. He did bring four desserts for our party of five though. From our observation, he was responsible for four tables and a booth which seemed overwhelming for him (though I believe he was genuinely trying to give his best effort to accommodate everyone). I'm not one to complain, but we have been spoiled with outstanding service in previous years. And, I don't want to be critical of this year's waiter because I think with time and more experience, he will be quite capable of offering the service we have become accustomed to at Maggiano's. This one snafu will certainly not keep us from attending next year, but we look forward to a return of your excellent service that has spoiled us. (On a side note, I love all the Christmas decorations and the music - my kind of place!!!!)
Reservation was for 7:30 for a party of 10 but only 6 showed. I arrived on time but we did not receive food until 9:15! Seating was terrible in a busy aisle where 3 of us kept getting bumped or brushed. Server(Matt) kept forgetting items & non attentive! Food was bland!
Have not been to Maggiano's in probably 7-8 years; I always remember having a good meal there and once we left this past Saturday, wasn't sure why it took me so long to come back. The service was great; we had a reservation and despite 4 of the 6 in our party had not arrived yet, it was really refreshing to have the hostess seat us (and not have to tell us they had to wait until everyone in our party arrived). So, my fiance and I were able to sit at our table and enjoy a cocktail until everyone else arrived. Our waiter was great. The food was really good. And we left thinking we should come back sooner rather than later.
Service was not as good as usual. Bare minimum. Forgot cookies for special occasion after asking before taking orders for food. No offer of refills for drinks or water or warmup on coffee. We had to ask for cookies and then there was a long delay. We were about to give up and leave when we saw her on the way with the cookies. We visit Maggiano's regularly for special occasions in our family because we all like the atmosphere and the food. We notice when something is missing and unfortunately, there was no hint of enthusiasm to provide good service. I don't know if it was lack of experience or not being a good fit for this particular job.
The food is good. My favorite is chicken and spinach manicotti. The house salad and bread are always great too. The service was not so good. The waitress had more tables than she could handle with one of them being a large party. This is the second time that we have had not so good service. This has been very disappointing because both times have been for a special occasion
Put the four of us in a wobbly side table; then brought our appetizer out with our main course - the waiter sent our main course back to the kitchen so we could eat our app; but later when they brought out our main courses it was apparent they had been under a heat lamp - hot on top and cold on the bottom. Our waiter was semi-attentive and got only the minimal tip. Next time we'll go to a good Hill restaurant.
Saturday 11/4 we brought a large party in to celebrate my daughters confirmation . My parents both have special dietary concerns and they were accommodated spectacularly . Not only did the manager come over to talk to them and make sure he understood what they needed, he had the chefs come out and speak with them. They also make dish recommendations based on their tastes and desires.
Our server was very friendly and extremely attentive. Overall we had an excellent experience.
Maggiano's consistently delivers time and again. If you're looking for good Italian food that tastes like fine dinning without worrying about breaking the bank, this is your spot. Whether its a night out with friends or a date night for you and your significant other, Magliano's is a guaranteed win!
Have dined here several times for lunch and dinner so recommended it for a East Coast friend who came in town to visit her son for parents' weekend at Wash. U. Their family has traveled worldwide so I thought this would be a good choice. Food is usually excellent, but this time the veal piccata was a bit over-cooked and burned a bit on the outside. I think the side dish could be something other than spaghetti - boring and not that good. All three of our "different" salads were excellent. We were seated upstairs which made the noise level "moderate" as it is very noisy downstairs. I was impressed by the staff who, we observed, had to walk up and down a long flight of stairs carrying trays. Asked the man standing at the top of the stairs, monitoring, why they didn't have a dumb waiter and he replied, "That's why our staff is thin and can eat a lot of pasta!" Cute, but "flip" answer. Our wait staff was very accommodating and pleasant, but I wonder how long they keep their staff. Certainly hope they're well compensated and make really good tips.
