Maggiano's - South Coast Plaza Ratings and Reviews
It was great to find real Italian food, with interesting, complex sauces and flavors. Chicken was moist, pasta done perfectly. Service very warm and personal. Waiter going above and beyond to make everything right. Not recommended to for quiet conversation, there is too much energy!
We arrived 1 hour before our reservation time and was told we would be seated next available rather than waiting until my scheduled reservation. My husband and I went to the bar and ordered a bottle of wine to take to our table. We ended up waiting the full hour standing there with our bottle of wine. After being seated we felt we were being rushed as they wanted to take our order right away. We ordered our appetizer to enjoy with our wine and then a side salad. At no time did the waitress refill our wine even tho she was at our table numerous times wanting to take our dinner order. We took two bites of the salad and was very disappointed that it was not even cold. As a matter of fact it was warmer than room temp and some of the lettuce was wilted. We told the waitress and she did remove from the bill. The meal arrived and certainly was hot and delicious. This place is good for an every day meal but not good if you expect any kind of good service for a date. The servers do need to know that when you spend $60+ on a bottle of wine the customers should not have to be the ones refilling their glasses.
They have a special meal for two which includes either an appetizer or two side salads, two entrees and one dessert, plus two pasta dishes to take home, all for under $45. So not only is the food homemade and tasty, but it's a great value! Everything here is very good, and the service is excellent. Make reservations, because it's very busy (for a reason!)
Went to have dinner before a show. The place was crowded and the waiters were very busy and we had to wait for service. The food was OK, but the Alfredo Fettuccine was more of a soup with pasta in it. When we complained, the waiter mentioned that before the holiday season they have new employees in the kitchen that are being trained and probably messed up the recipe.
But the taste was good so it could be overlooked and we got an extra dish to take home.
While the food was great as usual the service was not. Our server seemed distracted and uninterested in helping us. He cleaned away our bread plates, spilled the oil and vinegar all over the table and the floor and just left it there. I caught someone else's attention so they could clean it up and no one would slip and fall..This was a business meeting and I was embarrassed and had to apologize to my guest for the lack of service. We ordered a meal for our dinner and one to go. My dinner guest told me today that she had the wrong order when she got home. It was not overly busy so no real excuse for this sub standard service... Sad ...
Not having been back there for about ten years was my mistake. Although it was very enjoyable the first and only other time I had dined there, last weeks visit was amazing.
I had a reservation for 4, myself my wife,my daughter and my mother in law. We were 45 minutes late due to traffic but on arrival we were seated allmost immediately.
Our waiter was as good as you could wish for, a warm smile and fun conversation. Every request was undertaken with the upmost professionalism.
Each one of us had different dishes and they were all so fantastic.
We will be going back far more often.
Our dinner was wonderful, and the table service was outstanding. Our only negative
comment is that we had a 6:15 dinner reservation via Open Table, and they did not
seat us until after 7:00. We feel that the restaurant was over booked. The Manager was
very apologetic once we were seated and sent a complimentary hors d'oeuvres. We appreciated that, but we feel that this should not have happened.
It really doesn't pay to make a reservation at Maggiano's. My reservation was for 6:15 PM and I checked in on time. We still weren't seated at 6:45 PM and we went up to the hostess table to see how much longer it would be. Finally, at 7:00PM we were shown to our table.
Our server was very personable but he couldn't seem to remember how order and came back to the table several times to check what we wanted.
The food was very tasty and the servings were more than ample. We ordered pasta dishes and you get one to eat there and another one to take home. I ended up getting four meals from my order - half of one eaten at the restaurant and the rest eaten at home.
You go to Maggiano's for the food and we were not disappointed. If you have plenty of time and are not in a rush, this is a great choice.
We have dined here many times but this evening the restaurant was packed, they were 30 minutes late on our reservation., which I totally understand can happen. The challenge for us was it was a special occasion and the server was poor at best, We went to the bar at one point to get our own wine because our server was not great and never followed up. He never smiled, made eye contact, picked up dishes when he was bringing a new course...We had dishes piled everywhere and even the manager walked by and just looked the other way. The only time the server said a few words was when he brought the check and to tell us about Brunch. We were there to celebrate my dad's bday and we go every year. The server didn't even bring the standard birthday cookies with a candle and happy birthday on the plate. He just brought some cookies with a candle because he was to busy while several tables around us who had different servers had the traditional birthday or anniversary plate. The whole evening as far as the restaurant experience was poor and we agreed we wouldn't go back for his bday next year.
We had a party of 10 for a birthday dinner. I was able to make a reservation online the morning of for an 8:00 pm reservation on a Friday night. I especially liked this since so many restaurants today will not take reservations...especially for a larger party. They seated us right away and gave us a semi-private room (shared with another party of 8) which was perfect. The food was fantastic and service was good. This was my first time at the restaurant and had heard that the chef comes to your table for first-timers and gives either a free dessert or appetizer but that didn’t happen this time. However, I did get some lemon cookies as a “Happy Birthday” treat. We will definitely go back when we can afford the calories again!!
Served wrong order, finally arrived, and by then mine was cold. Wine served 15 mins after ordered. My drink never refilled or water till end of meal. Check was discounted, but damage done. Have dined here numerous times in past and also Chicago. Now it appears will use other dining choices. Too bad.
