Maggiano's - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
Occasion was a holiday party for 10. Service was excellent. We had family style meal. For all practical purposes, this is an all you can eat experience. The server will continue to bring courses out if you ask for more.
The overall quality of the food was excellent. We had Cesar salad, calamari, ziti, gnocchi, veal Marsala, beef medallions, cheese cake and tiramisu. Each course was delicious. The beef medallions were very tender and flavorful and were a crowd pleaser. That being said, none of the selections were a disappointment. Would definitely come back.
My son took me to Maggiano's Santana Row for brunch to celebrate my December birthday. We reserved an early time, 10:30 and the restaurant was quiet as there were only a couple of other groups in what is a large space. The restaurant decor is GREAT in December as it is decked in holiday finery so that made for a very festive meal. The meal started with an amuse bouche of sorts - an orange flavored mini muffin with a bit of white icing, Very tasty. We were also given nicely warmed bread with the traditional oil and vinegar. I had ordered a white sangria which was very nice, coffee and the Creme Brulee French Toast with a side of bacon. The Creme Brulee French Toast is kind of misnamed as there isn't anything brulee'd. The bread was a cranberry loaf which made for a tasty French toast, especially with the fresh strawberries and maple syrup. The first serving of bacon was very (very) well done and it was returned; the replacement bacon was good with a very hickory flavor. You should be aware that a side of bacon is $6 for 2 slices, which is overpriced in my opinion. My son had the Meatball Benedict which was actually a somewhat flattened sausage and meat patty that he said was really good. Overall, this was a fun celebration.
I should add that as time passed the restaurant began to fill up, and so the noise level increased. One other good thing about our early arrival is that the garage had plenty of parking, which during the holidays, is unusual at Santana Row.
The restaurant was super crowded (we had an 8:45 reserv.) We ordered some fried zucchini for appetizer but they had run out. A restaurant of that caliber should not run out of food. Then we ordered some fried calamari. We specifically asked for rings only but the dish came with tentacles as well, which no one on our party wanted. Then the main course came and it was another disappointment. My son's order was incorrect so we had to send back and by the time the correct order came, we were more than half way done. Two of the dishes were lukewarm and we had to send it back as well. They simply moved the food to a hot dish, so it was still lukewarm. We decided not to bother at that point. One of the people in our party ordered a second glass of wine but it took so long for the waiter to bring it that by they brought the wine we were done eating. However, the cost of the wine was included in the bill, so we had to ask them to remove it. Hadn't we paid attention to the charges, we would have paid for a glass of wine that no one actually drank. Last but not least, the cost of dishes are way too high for what's served. Not even at Chilli's we have had such a bad dining experience. It seems that Maggiano's take more customers that they can handle and charge much more than they should. Service overall needs major improvement.
I was extremely disappointed with the quality of service we received on our last visit to Maggiano’s. I have never been so angry and irritated with an eating establishment. I made dinner reservations for a party of 5 at 5:30 pm. I arrived early to request a table vs. a booth. The hostess assured me it would be a table. We were promptly called at 5:36 pm and taken to a booth. I explain to the hostess that we requested a table and she said, “well you’ll have to wait”. I then explain that we requested a table because one of the people in our party would not fit in a booth. She did not seem to care and again told me we would have to wait. My friend asked how long and the hostess said around 20 mins. We decided to waited since we were celebrating two birthdays. After waiting more than 30 minutes, I went up to the hostess again to make sure we were on the list. This hostess (a tall, blonde) put on a fake smile and said we would be seated soon and then said, “we are doing the best that we can”. Which was the same statement she made to every guest that talked to her. She was not sympathetic to our situation. Finally after waiting for almost an hour, we were crammed in a table in the middle of the restaurant . We all had to move at one time or another so that the people sitting around us could get up. My friend had a hard time getting in and out of her seat. She was extremely embarrassed and humiliated. The last straw was when we were unable use the women’s restroom because they were closed due to overflowing! This is an OSHA violation!
The only reason we did not speak to a manager that night was because we wanted to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. We had a horrible time and my husband and friend’s birthday celebration was ruined.
We will not be returning to Maggiano’s. I hope this review prompts management to improve employee training.
Food and service were excellent as usual. Restaurant was super crowded and had to wait 35 minutes after reservation time to get seated after complaining to the manager. Placed right at the entrance so had constant traffic passing by. This was an anomalous experience otherwise would have given a lower score.
First time trying brunch here & was really looking forward to it but it was a bit underwhelming. First hostess gave us a dinner menu & when I went to ask for the brunch menu she rudely responded “it’s in the middle” (it was a pullout menu). We would not have known this since she didnt mention it when she sat us and it was our first time here for brunch. And, why wouldnt u put it in front since the restaurant just opened. Second, it took a while for our server to appear and later we found out he was late to his shift so the one that helped us initially was covering most of the tables in the area (but they were both great, attentive & friendly). On to the food...we started with the Lobster Risotto Bites & all we tasted was cheese, no lobster. Then, I had the Chicken & Waffles & it was basically panko crusted chicken breast layered in between waffle quarters which made the waffles soggy. And, the chicken didn't taste seasoned. It was supposed to be served with a spicy maple syrup but i just got plain syrup. (Was hoping this would’ve saved the chicken). Also in the middle of the plate was strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream which was a little weird to eat with everything else. May give brunch another shot & try a different dish. Dinner here is good.
My family and I went to Maggiano's for Thanksgiving. It was fabulous... seated on time, very friendly and accommodating wait-staff, food was good and plenty of it. Highly recommend...the experience of a wonderful family meal, leftovers and no mess to clean up afterwards. What more can you ask for ?
we had Thanksgiving dinner at Maggiano's I expected a full house and it to be crazy busy and it was. my thinking and choosing Maggiano's is they would be more depth and handling the large crowd and turn over. I think we just did not luck out on the server Lottery. He was friendly enough but super overwhelmed. I had to ask for butter three times. we also noticed every time our server went to the computer to place orders other waiters would come up to him and request his help either on ordering or service. putting our service at Jeopardy. The food was good and they did well with the turkey the two bowls of pasta we had to order as part of the family meal we're a bit of a waste. We really enjoyed the bruschetta would have liked to have more of that and more than the four pieces of bread that we started with. We did get more bread but the bruschetta topping was all gone. The atmosphere was very festive and we've thoroughly enjoyed visiting Santana Row when it was not crowded.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal here last year, so we went again this year. I think if this year's experience had been our first for their Thanksgiving meal, we wouldn't go again. Maggiano's is always busy, regardless of whether you're there on a holiday, but the service is always good. This Thanksgiving Day, tho, the service was subpar - the first time in all the times we've eaten here. We were seated almost 20 minutes before our waiter arrived to take our drink orders. The first course came quickly, but the remaining courses seemed to take forever - especially dessert. The food this year wasn't nearly as good as last year, as none of the dishes were served hot. My biggest disappointment was the apple crostada. I think it had just come out of the cooler, instead of being served warm. Will we go again next Thanksgiving? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see if we find somewhere better.
Thanksgiving $45 per person deal is not a deal at all...The turkey was so dry and being a cook, it looked like it was cooked a couple days ago and then microwaved. Creamed corn was good. Ham was meh. On a scale from 1-10...4....4 cheese ravioli tasted meh too...the pasta itself smeared all over my teeth and that never even happens with chef boy r’d ....garlic mashed potatos tasted like they didn’t put much thought to it...gnocchi was mushy too..tiramisu was the only highlight....at $45 a thanksgiving meal x 6 ppl....I guarantee you that spending $60 Boston market for all 6ppl will leave you 5x happier with the taste and value
Food was ok. Service was SLOW with many empty tables. A lot of employees but not many taking care of customers.
Restaurant needs remodeling. The booth that we sat in had torn seats. Restaurant looked tired and dirty.
Usually go there a couple times a year for special occasions but not anymore.
We had an early Thanksgiving dinner with family flying in from the EastCoast and had a party of 18 people show up. The whole staff was very accommodating and let us use one of their private rooms to dine and mingle. It was absolutely perfect for our party! Julie, our waitress was amazing and took care of all of us ( even the babies) needs! We had an such a great time and will come back soon. Kudos to the entire staff who made us feel so welcome and at home... family style.
