Maggiano's - Hackensack Ratings and Reviews
First off - the place was freezing....told the waitress who said she told the manager, but it made no difference......Secondly, should have known when we arrived for brunch (which is on the menu) at 12:00 and they were open since 10:30 a.m. and no one was there. The fritata was not good at all - one would expect a fritata in an Italian restaurant would have been delicious....It was tasteless and didn't even look like a fritata....more like a small pizza with veggies thrown on top - tasteless..../.potatoes that accompanied it were just ordinary. Waitress never asked if we wanted dessert - just plopped the bill on the table. That being said, the people who ordered the pancakes and the waffles and chicken said they were very good. And the Italian food that was coming out to other diners looked delicious - so I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch - only lunch or dinner.
Waiters forgot to bring one of our appetizers. Specialty pasta "Rigatoni D" was so overcooked that the pasta was falling apart. After our entrees were served, the waiter forgot about us for a LONG time. Overall, it was disappointing, I will think twice before returning.
We usually come for an early dinner and take one On The House entrée home with us. Our waiter David recognized us and was able to anticipate our needs. We consider Maggiano's in Hackensack, NJ our local Italian restaurant and heartily recommend this location to family and friends. :-)
A get-what-you-pay-for sort of experience; not crazy-pricey but not the sort of bargain that you'd want to keep secret either. Ok for a couple date if you get a booth but probably best if you have a crowd and the right budget. The place clearly does crowds well.
We were very disappointed at Maggiano’s for dinner on New Years Eve. We had celebrated New Years at Maggiano’s for last 3years.
Every year we had great time, they decorated tables and chairs with balloons, waiters are giving us champagne, celebration hats and so on... Place was packed and everyone in the restaurant had celebrating mood..
But this time, there was not many customers in the restaurant, there was no decorations at all. When we counting down to New Year, ther were only 2 groups besides our table.
I don’t know what happened this time..
I would appreciate if you would have let us know that there would be no special service for New Year Celebrations when I made reservations... totally disappointed.
I really like Maggianos . My family and I go there a lot . I always make reservations and get great seating , but my last experience was not so pleasant. I even put in my request at the time I made my reservation. We were seated by the bar which was close to the doors. It was very uncomfortable to enjoy our meal and we have a two year son . The waitress was great and she did everything right, however; I really think the elderly and people with small children should be seated in the dining area where it is warm . I hope you guys take by review and change the accommodations. I sincerely recommend closing that area all together or try finding away to cover the doors so that the customers do not feel like they are dining outside in the freezing cold ..
The ambience was nice. Reminiscent of a neighborhood place. Dean Martin and Sinatra singing overhead was a cozy touch. The service was very good. The cocktails were better than expected. However, the entrees were not winners. The pasta carbonara was very plain and under seasoned. The salmon special was not quite special. That too was under seasoned and served with a side of vegetables that were bland and way too undercooked. Lastly, the desserts were huge portions, which isn't a bad thing. However, they too weren't anything to scream about. Overall, the vibe was hip, friendly and upbeat. The service was on point. However, we did not get what we paid for. Too expensive for such a mediocre meal. We've honestly dined in less expensive chain restaurants and had a better meal. Perhaps it was an "off" night for the kitchen when we were there. But I don't think we (and our wallets) will give Maggiano's a second try any time soon.
Fried calamari, chicken parm, gnocchi with sausage, linguine with white clams, shrimp scampi, salads, dessert, cocktails were all very good. Our server was especially good. Service was a little slow at times but it was a Friday night. Almost $200 for four people including tip is a little steep.
Our Christmas Eve dinner there was frustrating. The service was great, our waitress did what she could, but it was very crowded and both the bar and kitchen were backed up. The noise level was high with alot of family groups, in retrospect we should have anticipated that. Our salad was delicious, but what I was really disappointed in were the entrees. My husband's shrimp fra diavalo was not spicy at all and my pasta primavera came with barely cooked vegetables and no sauce at all -- I finally got some marinara on the side but it was still bland. I think we will think twice before coming there again.
We feel that though it is still a good deal, the family style choices have been reduced and it is starting to get expensive. Also they struggle with food delivery. Some items come out with plenty for the whole table while others are gone before the server is away from the table. Some items they would bring 2 plates at a time and others just one with no seeming rhyme or reason. Plus sometimes it can take a long time to get an item refilled. We still always enjoy our time there, but each time it feels like we enjoy it a little less.
Great place for a group of friends. Love the family style menu. Everyone was happy with the menu options. The dishes came out quickly and were nice and hot - more importantly, delicious. Our waitress was very friendly, very knowledgable, and made this a great experience.
Food was so salty that it was almost inedible. Used to like going here but will stay away from now on. Was not an isolated incident. The last 2 or 3 times we were there, the same thing with the salt. Guessing they changed the recipes as was not an issue before.
I asked four of my friends to join me for the Holiday Lunch Special. It was a Thursday at 1:00 so it wasn’t too crowded but there were two tables of larger groups, so it was a bit noisy. Appetizers were very good but stuffed mushrooms had very little flavor. We ordered the eggplant Parmesan because my one friend is vegan. When they brought it out, there were 4 pieces for 5 people, but they did bring us one more piece when asked. Ironically, none of us could eat it because it was so salty. The waitress told us they don’t add salt to the dishes but someone did! We were able to get a replacement of cheese ravioli, which was very good. We ordered the Parmesan encrusted tilapia. The tilapia that came was something totally different. It had tomatoes, spinach and capers, but no Parmesan crust. At that point we just ate it rather than ask for something different. The dessert of apple crostata and creme brûlée were excellent. We’ve been to Maggianos many times and this is the first time we were a little disappointed. Still enjoyed the leftovers the next day.
