Maggiano's - Chevy Chase Ratings and Reviews
Food made up for the inattentive waiter. Three of us had the chicken parm and it was absolutely delicious. One had carbonara which they said was OK not the best they’ve ever but very good and one had a shrimp dish they said was excellent. Cost is average for mid level Italian restaurant. Had a great time and the food was outstanding. Would definitely return...had lefrovers for lunch a few days later yum!!
Maggiano's is fun, very friendly and the food ain't bad either. While the cooking may not blow you away, the salads and pasta's we had were better than most. But its the friendly service and atmosphere that will bring us back. Recommended, perhaps not highly, but urgently. You have to go. Small but decent wine list too.
My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day here. The restaurant is consistently good across all measures. The food is always top notch as is the service. Even on such a busy night as Valentines Day, the ambiance was superior for a romantic evening. It was made better by the fact that we had a booth to ourselves. Kudos! Highly recommended.
Went for Valentine's Day dinner with my fiancé. I'll start off with the bad, then the good.
Bad: This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Two hours to get our main course and dessert, and that was only after we complained to a manager, because complaining to our waiters (two waiters were splitting responsibilities at our table, which we think caused all the issues) did not seem to expedite the process, as it seemed they just disregarded our table the entire night. Drinks were never refilled (our original drinks were gone after a half an hour), and we did not get our drinks until after sitting down for over half an hour, which they messed up three times. One of the drink mess ups included them bringing us a drink we asked specifically NOT to have because of allergies (allergic to Amertto).
The good: We were seated promptly and were allowed to check in early for our reservation. The ambiance is nice. A chef came out to answer any questions we had about their menu and possible allergic reactions because our waiters did not know. The manager we complained to rushed our order and gave us a free drink, and was extremely apologetic, which we believe was sincere. As we were leaving we also mentioned our experience to the GM (Chris) and another manager (Teddy) simply to bring to their attention our issues so that hopefully no one else would have to go through something like that, especially on a special day like Valentine's Day. Chris and Teddy apologized and Teddy went one step further an gave us some gift cards and asked that we give them another chance in the future. This was a great unexpected gesture. We will be going back in the future and hope to give a better rating as I'm sure our experience was an exception to the rule.
However, our rating is for our experience we had on Valentine's Day, and it was very poor.
It was a nightmare! We had a party of 8 and none of our food or drinks came out at the same time. 2 member of the party did not get their food until about a half hour after everyone else. We had to request it 4 times to the manager. The GM finally came over and tried to smooth everything over and offer complimentary items, but the damage had already been done. I would not recommend this restaurant for a large party or anything other than a quick drink. Beer selection is awful.
Issue was service, when food was requested. Took 45 minutes to receive and one person was rude to my guest. Very pricey for family style. But was fun for get together. I just didn’t like the time we had to wait for our food when requested at a decent time frame while others received their food within 10 minutes of getting there.
It's been a good while since we've last been to Maggiano's. My overall rating belies the actual dining and food, which was great. Our server was hustling, attentive, and polite. The food was appropriately comfy. I still think this is one of the better deals in the entire city.
It was upon leaving that re-ignited the reason why I've avoided this particular Maggiano's from the last visit almost a year ago.
Our previous experience had three adults and four children (around 8 years old) sitting in the first-come-first serve section at the front of the restaurant. We were served by what I can only describe an over-zealous jokester with an unnatural focus on children. He would spit out wise cracks, touch them on the shoulder, try to get them to laugh, interrupt conversations, give them free ice cream....the whole thing just felt weird and inappropriate. It left such a negative impression that I never wanted to return.
Well, after about a year, we decided to forego cooking and secured last-second reservations (thanks, OpenTable!) to this particular Maggiano's. After enjoying a wonderful family evening, we were walking through the front of the restaurant and the prankster of yore pops up out of nowhere. "Hey," he smirks, "you have to pay me for the meal," he says to my 9 y/o son. "Where's my money? Hahaha!"
My son looks confused. I immediately recognize this guy from before, and I give the gentleman the, "OK, that's enough" look, and I gently try to steer my son towards the door. But, apparently, not getting a reaction wasn't what the waiter was after, so he keeps on. I'm now more aggressively ushering my son out of the way with Mr. Jokester still trying to create a reaction with, "Come back! You need to pay me. Hahaha!"
I'm sure this schtick is viewed by many as a hoot. Neither my wife nor I are in this camp.
Food was ok, Service was lacking. There was four us, and the only three got their food. The fourth person had to wait for 10 minutes. Then we had no silverware, had to ask three times. And tried to order a second bottle of wine, but was a 15 minute wait.
Food is actually pretty good and plentiful. Great place for an inexpensive party.
Maggiano's is incredible! It's a large restaurant but we felt well attended to the entire time. The food is so good; from the warm bread and olive oil to start with through the entrees. Service is friendly and helpful. They're happy to give suggestions if you don't know where to start. The pasta is fresh and delicious. We love coming to Maggiano's when the occasion calls for it!
I always like the food at Maggiano's and it's a good value. Mom's lasagna is delicious. Our waiter made a great suggestion to add chicken meatballs to the chitarra carbonara. Not traditional, but delicious. The cappuccino and lemon cookies were just right for dessert after all that pasta.
Our food was good but that was it.
The waiter had to be told to bring bread to our table when he and other waiters served it automatically. I was asked by both the manager and waiter if I would like dessert in front of the special guest when I had expressed on my reservation and to my waiter in confidentiality that it was my boyfriend's birthday and I would like to have a dessert chosen for him discreetly.
Our waiter never even brought us more water when needed, lack of communication or service.
We went to celebrate my mom's birthday and we had a blast. The table was ready when we came for our reservation and our server gave us plenty of time to catch-up and look over the menu and even showed us the 'family-style' menu which made us all reconsider our selections, but she was super friendly and helpful. The tiramisu was delicious.
We used to have a good experience at Maggiano's but this time, the service was terrible.
It was not busy at all since we went there on one of the coldest days. However, the waiter did not have a good knowledge about the menu. One moment, we had to wait for 20 minutes to get a glass of wine.
Service Is Appalling
I dined at Maggiano's in Chevy Chase for the last time. The service was so appalling even after speaking with the Manager, that I will not return. This is not the first time the service was unacceptable but I gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, thinking that the poor service at my previous two visits was a fluke. I was wrong. I am a former long-time customer of Maggiano's in Chevy Chase, but this restaurant will no longer get my business.
We had an excellent time at Maggiano's on New Year's Eve. We were celebrating my sister's birthday, which we mentioned to the waiter. He thoughtfully brought out extra dessert (cookies that were not included in our family-style selections) along with more helpings of the cake we had ordered, just to make things a little more special. Drinks were a bit slow in coming, but I expect things to be a bit hectic on NYE. Our waiter was very professional and friendly, and the food was fresh and enjoyable. I love family style for larger groups! Makes the meal so easy and relaxed.
