Maggiano's - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Been going here for years- always wonderful, but this visit was disappointing... they were out of eggplant parm at 6:30pm- reflective of poor kitchen planning, as it is a popular house speciality (and what I was looking forward to all day)! Then ordered tiramisu for dessert, first they said they were out, then came back and said "we found some"- it must had just been made at that moment, because the lady fingers were still hard! Will think twice before going back!
The food was delicious!! We ordered gnocchi with sausage and eggplant Parmesan, both were plentiful and we took the rest home!! Even though there were only 2 of us, I felt totally forgotten about in there. I tried numerous times to get our waiters attention to no avail. When he did finally come
By, I had asked for a cappuccino and the check. Someone else delivered the cappuccino, no check. Now, coffee is done, water glasses are empty, to go bag on table, no check. Two tables around us who had arrived after us; left before us. I begin to layer on my winter wear, standing up, trying to be noticed by my waiter, usually works. Fully dressed for the freezing temps and here’s the check. I also noted in my reservation that we had the 7pm show, reservations were for 4:45pm.
The food was very good. We had a 6pm reservation and I had called in advance to let them know that we had to be finished before heading to the theater. I was told it was no problem but unfortunately, our table was not ready at 6 - it was about 15 minutes delayed . Since we ordered family style we paid for all of the courses of food but were not able to finish eating because we had to leave for the theater. That was a disappointment. The waiter was very nice. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated at a round table for 10 so it was almost as if we were all sitting in a line (which was awkward) . I don't think I would come here again if on a time crunch.
We didn't actually sit down to eat here this evening because we checked in 10 mins before our reserve time and the hostess was seating people who came in after us, who apparently had earlier reservation times, but were arriving much later. We left about 20 mins after our reservation time, after waiting about half an hour total.
I went on Sunday evening with a group of friends before a show. It was quite busy and we were thankful we had made a reservation.
Our waiter was extremely pleasant and after introducing himself, he asked if we had any time constraints. When we told him we had an 8:00pm show he assured us he would get us out of there in plenty of time.
We ordered family style and there was more than enough food for 4 adults (in fact we took half home!). Everything was delicious.
The only slight downfall was the cost, especially for alcoholic drinks.
This was my second time here and it seems like all the things I enjoyed about the first trip are gone. The food tasted bland and our server seemed to be managing too many tables. Overall, still okay for pre/post show but you should definitely make it to the north end if you’re hoping for good Italian food.
The food was fantastic but depending on what you order the portions can be a bit small for the price. The filet was melt in your mouth delicious! Our server started out good but after we got our food he seemed to be more interested in talking to the waitresses then waiting on us. It took more then 10 minutes to get his attention when we had all finished eating even though he was standing directly in our line of sight. Although we were out for my birthday we loved the Christmas decorations and the ambiance of the restaurant. We will be back!
Everything was great- food, server, ambiance
Only issue was the check in there was a long line and very crowded. There were other guests cutting in line and being rude. Not much they could have done but an easier way to check in - maybe someone at the door and at the hostess stand- more than one spot.
We have been to maggianos several times and it is generally pretty good. On this occasion we had the worst experience ever. The reason was that the waiter had a lousy attitude so with that being said the drinks were wrong and took forever, the food also took an unreasonable amount of time and was served cold. We will probably not be returning to Maggianos.
I have been to Maggiano’s a handful of times and each time never disappoints! Yummy as usual and the service was great! They always ask if you’re seeing a show so they can make sure you get out on time! Highly recommend to anyone looking for great Italian food!
The food was great and our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable but the front desk reception needs some improvement and professionalism. I had a reservation but still they made us wait for more than 30 mins and after i asked about the wait they said my reservation was removed from their system which i felt odd, they accomodated us immediately but randomly taking out of the system needs some improvement.
Always have a great time, service, and food. This last time was not the case. I made a reservation two weeks prior and was sat 45 min late. Out food orders were wrong, and we never got some of our food. For the passed 3 Years, my boyfriend and i come to Maggiano’s for every occasion. It was his birthday and took my entire family with us this time since we wanted to share our always great experience with them. It’s unfortunate that this last time was a negative one. I’ve worked in busy chain restaurants so I understand how busy it can get, but I don’t know if our server was new but I felt like he didn’t really listen and seemed extremely overwhelmed. There were 30 min gaps between him coming to our table which is unacceptable. This won’t deter us from coming to Maggiano’s again, but not on a Friday or not to the one in Boston, unfortunately.
I took my wife here prior to the theater. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. The service was excellent; couldn’t ask for better service. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was fantastic. The wine was reasonably priced. The bruschetta bar was EXCELLENT. My wife’s steak was undercooked (she ordered a medium filet and got med-rare). My Filet was over cooked ( I ordered med-rare, and got med-well). It was hard to have a normal conversation due to the loud atmosphere, but you can’t expect any better as it was a Friday night at 6pm. The bill was very reasonable and I had no problem with the prices. Overall, had a great time and will absolutely go back the next time we are in Boston for dinner.
Maggiano’s is a behemoth of a restaurant. It’s not easy to have the charm of Little Italy when you seat hundreds of people in a multi level mega restaurant. The menu is pretty extensive but nothing on it sounds particularly appealing. The starters are grease ridden calorie bombs and the mains are the largest portions I have ever seen. The contadina (beef stew) tasted surprisingly okay but was enough food for 3-4 people. Wine by the glass was extremely expensive and the waiter couldn’t remember which was which because ‘they were both red’ - I’m not really a wine snob but at $21 a glass I’d like a little better service. It seems like this is an experience you should have in Boston, but we wouldn’t ever do it again.
We arrived about 20 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic but did call and speak to someone at the restaurant to let them know. When we arrived it was very busy, we explained we explained about our reservation and the host was able to sit us shortly after we arrived. Once seated the service was fast and friendly. The food came out quickly and was very good. We were able to enjoy an nice meal before heading over to see Elf The musical.
Nice place. Nice atmosphere. I made a reservation here because I remember that my wife used to visit one in Virginia. I remember her liking it. Thought I would surprise her. Food was great. Place was busy. Everything was on time. Wish I could buy a franchise!
Service was a little slow it took 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. We did have a reservation and were seated promptly. We went to a theater production of Elf. I think the rush of so many families on a Tuesday night really threw them off, but that didn’t change the food. It was delightful. We did get to the theater on time which was a plus. This is the first time I was not satisfied with service here, so I would just say a bad night. It is a great restaurant and there is something for even the pickiest eaters!!
Great space when you're hungry and with a group! I have only come here to do the Family Style menu which definitely makes sense for a large group! Sometimes the service can be slow since the restaurant is usually so busy. This specific visit, we were with 4 guests and thought that the portion were a little smaller than usually for the family options.
We love this place for the buzzing atmosphere and the good food. But this particular visit wasn't our best: we had a pre-theater reservation for 5.45 pm but didn't get seated until 6.30, which meant we had to order in a hurry and skip appetizers and dessert. It was also my daughter's birthday so skipping the planned candle in dessert was doubly disappointing. The wait staff seemed less interested in us once we told them we were in a rush.
We'll still come back. But if we are going to the theater on a weekend night, we would make the reservation even earlier in case this is an ongoing issue. We weren't the only frustrated patrons waiting for late reserved tables.
