Food was sparse but overall tasty. We weren’t greeted as the host was on the phone and she looked for people to help as we walked in. The person who sat us down was very professional and kind. Our sever was obviously busy because we received the bare minimum of service. He never asked us once how things were and gave complimentary anniversary drinks to a table that sat after us when it was also our anniversary. Overall awkward experience and not enough people to do a the job expected for 202 dollars a head. Probably would not go back. Not the best service for what we spent.
Great food and service. Amazing space; the new courtyard looks fantastic
Would highly recommend. Pricey but everything from drinks, bread, appetizer, meal , dessert, coffee and service were outstanding. The ibérico ham appetizer served with small, butttery biscuits was a home run. All the staff we had any interaction with went out of their way to make our evening a memorable one.
Both of our sirloins were chewy and fatty. This was our fourth visit and we were disappointed.
This was our first time dinging at Magdalena. We decided to try it for our 25th wedding anniversary and were blown away by everything. The inner courtyard was serene and beautifully set. The food was amazing at every course, and the service was top notch. We've definitely found our new favorite place in Baltimore.
Food was decent, but service left more to be desired. The waiter paid much more attention to other tables than ours. I had to ask him several times for coffee. It was an expensive meal to have such awful service. Wont be back again
Fine dining- beautiful restaurant with truly haute cuisine. Excellent selection of wines. Attentive wait staff. Very quiet and few other diners. Might have been a slow night but that was a plus for us. Depends on what kind of atmosphere you like. Definitely reserved for special occasions
A real gem for foodies! Small separate rooms gives a low noise level and an intimate feeling. Service is first rate. It begins at the valet parking when he shows you into the restaurant and then parks your car! Celebrating a special occasion or just want to do something special for yourself this is the place!
My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary celebration at Magdalena. We chose to sit in the courtyard, which felt like we were on a mini-vacation away from the city. The food was nothing short of amazing and the staff was cordial, attentive, and friendly. The overall experience was wonderful. We look forward to our next visit.
Magdalena is a flawless dining experience. I had the lobster/crab salad on watermelon for a starter. Not exactly what I expected when served but it was amazing! The veal chop special was also the best! The service was flawless and the weather permitted dining on the terrace.
My only concern was the relatively empty dining room. Baltimore is not supporting fine dining. We need places like Magdalena!
Go! You will not be disappointed,
Our favorite place. We try to go at least one time each season to see what magic they are up to. Ignore those scary dollar signs - you are special and deserve this great treat.
It was more than advertised. It was a perfect place for my wife and I to celebrate the best 11 years of our lives (our anniversary). I had included in the reservation to please bring us each a French Martini as soon as we were seated (its a sentimental tradition we have). In the past, every restaurant I've given that simple request to when making the reservation has missed that instruction, and I had to remind them - not this restaurant. They appeared with the drinks immediately, and my wife was so impressed. The food is extraordinary, and the waitress (Dottie), the maitre de, the restaurant manager (Emanuel), and even the parking valet could not have been more personable or professional. The best restaurant I have ever eaten at. My wife said the same thing.
We love this place. Food is outstanding as is the wait staff.
Celebrated our birthdays at Magdalena’s and as usual our experience did not disappoint. Steve loved his meal so much that he would go back and eat it all over again: burrata, tomato and watermelon appetizer (basil sorbet was amazing); bronzini entree and olive oil cake dessert. Service was exemplary and chef was very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. I thoroughly enjoyed my crab and lobster salad appetizer and strawberry cheesecake dessert. The sweet corn tortellini entree was good but the tortellini did not hold up to the pasta in the absolutely amazing sweet corn tortellini appetizer I had a year ago. The recommended wine selection went perfectly with our meal. Another wonderful evening.
Very nice restaurant with great service.
Food was delicious.
Magdalena gave us a fine dining experience with all of the approachability of your local neighborhood standby. Absolutely everyone was friendly and knowledgeable, and we especially appreciated our server, Jen, who kindly and forthrightly steered us to excellent choices, and the manager and resident whiskey expert, Emmanuel, who guided us, based on our go-to favorite scotch, to a selection from their extensive whiskey menu (which was exactly as he described and that we liked so much we bought a bottle for home the next day). We closed the place down and they even gave us a tour of the other dining spaces at the end of the night. Our meal was beautiful in both presentation and taste, fully worth the price tag. Fancy but not stuffy, it made for the perfect “treat yo self” experience for our celebration.
Great food and ambience. Service a little slow but allowed us ample time to visit with friends. Somewhat expensive - 6 people $850, so likely will only go for special occasions.
We were celebrating our friend Rita Cooper's 75th Birthday and it was an absolutely lovely event. The entertainment provided by Rodney Kelley was excellent. The food was delicious, and Jen our server was outstanding. We definitely will be returning. The outdoor ambiance was so soothing.
Perfect. A special place.
We celebrated our Anniversary at Magdalena’s, at the Ivy Hotel Baltimore.
We were warmly greeted and escorted to the table. We were seated at a booth that overlooked the garden patio.
The Server and his assistants were very pleasant. Our Server was knowledgeable, professional, very friendly and efficient. He was there whenever we wanted anything. The food courses were small but very interesting combinations that “sang together” on perfect pitch! Everything was fresh and very tasty.
My husband chose the spring chicken dish and found it very tender and flavorful. The portion was small (of course, it was a spring chicken) but it didn’t leave him hungry. I had scallops with a coconut-cilantro drizzle, kimchi-Lychee coleslaw with finely chopped Chinese sausage rice.
We were told by the gentleman beside us that he was a friend of the Chef. He said the scallops are flown in daily from Japan! These were absolutely the BEST scallops I have ever had, bar none! Amazing! They were plump, moist but not wet and so very tender. And, my pet peeve with scallops: crunching down on sand, was totally eliminated. They were absolutely perfect....And so was our anniversary dinner! We finished the meal with scoops of homemade ice cream and gelato.
Everything was carefully and professionally prepared. We would recommend Magdalena’s to anyone who is a bit adventurous with their cuisine and wanted to splurge a bit for something special. Perfect for special celebrations.
I took my wife and friends there to celebrate my wife's birthday. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed every minute of it. A couple of my friends wished their portions we're bigger for the entrees
Food was excellent, service was incredibly personalized. We shall return!
A delicious experience coupled with outstanding service.
One of the most delightful evenings I've ever had at a restaurant. The menu was so enticing it took us a half hour to even decide. The co tails were classic and wonderful. The table was quiet and the room was beautiful. The service was respectful but very attentive. Just loved it and will return many times
We celebrated my wife’s birthday. The meal was very good with excellent food matched by the service. We will definitely be back.
Excellent dining in every way . Pricey, but worth it if you value an incomparable dining experience.
For New York City prices, I had higher expectations of the food. Great atmosphere and nice ambience, however, small portions and high prices left me with a mediocre review.
Excellent setting for a very intimate dining experience. The food was creative and delicious. Our server did an excellent job.
My husband and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary at Magdalene and everything was outside. We enjoyed live jazz, and the food and drinks were amazing!
Loved the Sunday jazz supper. What a delightful evening.
Excellent!! Food, service, and atmosphere were all superb. I look forward to returning.
This was our second trip to Magdalena as we were quite impressed by our first visit. Service is extraordinary without being obvious or obnoxious. Bread to die for. Shrimp cocktail was done perfectly but seems a tad expensive for a mere two shrimp. My veal chop was done to perfection and sizeable, had to resist picking it up by the shank to get the last bite. My partner loved her spring chicken and foie gras.
The desserts are worth saving room for as they are presented with great flair with subtle tastes. This is definitely on our special occasions list and recommended to all our friends.
Simply wonderful. Exquisite food and service. Atmosphere was great. I love to be able to linger after a good meal, enjoying coffee and conversation. We were able to do this!
The Food was great , the service impeccable and the entire experience was exemplary. I’ll be back for certain.
Outstanding in every aspect. This is truly one of the best restaurants in the country!
Another outstanding meal at Magdalena. Our first experience on the patio. Was a very nice dinner. My first time either the new menu after the refresh. Only the 3 day. All very good. I tried to start with the deviled eggs from the bar menu but that was still in the works. Oh well. Great time and fabulous meal on the patio.
Magdalena remains my favorite upscale restaurant in Baltimore. The food is actually a good value and exceptionally well prepared, always with a creative twist. We love the elegant bistro feel of the restaurant and the service is extremely attentive but not overbearing. The wine list is deep and well selected but could do with more selections below $80 - how about some nice Cote du Rhone from 2015 or 2016 for instance. You can find some nice reasonable bottles, but be careful because some (even the high priced ones) may be marked up 3X retail or more, which is not nice. But you can do your wine homework before going. Again, a real gem.
The restaurant is expensive, but food, service and setting excellent.
The best service I have experienced ever! From the extremely knowledge bartender (who educated me on so many things), to the server who knew the preparation of every dish, to the valet, to the host/hostesses, to the manager (who arranged for a tour of their outstanding boutique hotel), and everyone in between. Food was very good, and made good use of local ingredients. One small detraction, this was the first time I was unable to find a glass of red wine to my liking. I sampled four different red wines ($12-$25 per glass) and none were satisfactory. I even was willing to purchase a bottle (I'm the only one in my group who drinks alcohol), but the wine that I knew (and liked) was sold out. Bummer.
Our server from Peru was outstanding! We would go back just for him. The food was also excellent.
