Our experiences at this fine dining destination are always outstanding. Unparalleled service that accompanies the wonderfully creative and delicious food is what we've come to expect each and every time. Jen, our favorite server, is so informative regarding the nuances of the dishes and beverages. She does a great job of explaining the chef's masterpieces . She is truly a gem to this restaurant. We look forward to seeing her and the rest of the staff at each visit. The dining here is not inexpensive, but it is money and time well-spent.
This was our second visit - the food is delicious, the service stellar...and they are so accommodating! The first time I went, I didn't want to make any special requests so I ordered off the menu (which was great) - the server *did* make a point to ask every single person in our party if they had dietary restrictions then, but there were 8 of us and I didn't want to be difficult. This time there were just 2 of us - I made a note on the reservation, and the server offered me some vegan options not on the menu for every course, which were all fabulous. Magdalena was already a winner based off the first visit, but they just earned *so* many more points.
It's definitely a place you go for an occasion! In the bottom of the beautiful Ivy Hotel, Magdalena was such a classy and well run establishment. The food was fantastic, the other dinner guests were very respectful and the the house cocktails were lovely. The best experience of the night was our server, Beth, she took such great care of us that evening and was such a joy.
Ambiance wise, I will say there was something I did have a weird feeling about. I was there with my boyfriend and a friend because we were visiting from out of town and we were all wearing pretty casual clothing, but we were honestly the youngest folks in the room, and also the most underdressed. I had a backpack with me, we were both in jeans...they don't really have a dress code, but every other patron in the restaurant was dressed very smartly, or wearing a blazer. I almost with there was an enforced dress code, but us being underdressed didn't really affect how we felt about the dinner. Just wanted to point out that even though there isn' a strict dress code, don't show up here wearing a tee shirt!
Went for dinner with four friends and it seems to have gone down a bit. Food was good but not great and our server seemed to be distracted. Overall a good experience but not as good as it was when we went last year.
Food was phenomenal, service was attentive without being stifling or fussy. Whiskey selection was reasonably broad although strangely chosen. Hopefully staff would have directed you away from some of the more polarizing offerings if you didn't seem sure of your selection.
I regret that we had not visited this restaurant sooner. The staff provided impeccable service and our meal was one of the best we have had in years … and that includes many 5 star restaurants in Baltimore and D.C. The prices are to be expected on the high end but the value is superior to the price in comparison to their competitors. The night we were there they had a straight ahead jazz duo playing near the bar and they made the night extra special for us. Our entrees ( beef medallion and lamb shank), were superbly prepared. While I no longer indulge in wines, the list here tempted me. Great atmosphere, and service that began at the valet parking service in a downpour. Cannot wait to return.
This was by far one of the best dining experiences my party and I have ever had, and that is saying a lot living in the DC-Baltimore corridor and having dined at many fine establishments. The ambience is wonderful, the dishes were absolutely exquisite, the service impeccable from the time we entered until the time we left. One person in our party ordered the parsnip soup and let us taste it- it was so wonderful that within ten minutes we each had ordered and been served a bowl. The Hudson Valley seared foie gras was prepared in a beautiful manner, the Chilean sea bass was delicious. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Ive been to magdalena before and it never fails to impress. Service was impeccable and the ambiance pleasing to the senses. One small critique though : while everything was well cooked, the foie gras was slightly saltier than it should have been. That said it was still a great night and I hope to back again.
While this is an expensive restaurant, the food, service and ambiance were all top notch. The beef tenderloin was amazing served with what I would call a truffle sauce and bread like a croissant.
It does many things correctly, but on this last visit, if did not succeed in reaching Relais and Chateaux experience.
The little things
No snack with the drinks.
Cheese served cold and not properly ripened.
Menu that was out of date was given to one member of the party.
I am sure I will be back, but really need to pull a few things together.
Beautiful intimate atmosphere with delicious food and impeccable service. And they even have gluten free bread!
Service and food were very good but very overpriced. Just 3 scallops as an entree at $40+. Disappointing.
From the valet to the hot tea everything and everyone was superb!!!!
I travel and dine often. Magdalena in the Ivey Hotel is exceptional and will be my Baltimore “go to” place for business or with friends-
Fabulous experience from door to door. Food is delicious, service perfect and the dining room was
lovely. It is expensive but worth it to treat yourself.
Magdalena is just about perfect. A beautiful space, elegant, intimate and also comfortable, outstanding food, excellent and also friendly service. Very welcoming. The staff wants to please and they do.
We had another fabulous dinner at Magdalena. One of the things that makes it stand out among the top restaurants in the city is its flexibility in how you dine there. You can have a quick meal at the bar, a couple courses for dinner, or a meal that fills the evening. We choose to do the latter at our last visit there, and spent close to 3 hours having our dinner. Our server was gracious, informative, fun, and knew how to pace our meal. The sommelier gave us two options on our price range and the red we chose was excellent. We had the shellfish platter for the first time - the oysters, gigantic shrimp, smoked salmon and ceviche were all outstanding. The ceviche particularly stood out.
Everything was perfect. We do not eat out very much because we are disappointed in the quality of the food, the noise level and the ambience. This restaurant met all of our criteria. We will return.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food drinks and wine are excellent. The service is superb.
My wife and I ate here before a show at the Modell Performing Arts Center. We were both very impressed by the quality of the food. I was impressed by the wine list and we enjoyed a excellent bottle of champagne from France. The service was top notch and very friendly. We plan to return.
I've been to Magdalena twice now and both times were remarkable! The food is beyond delicious and the service is incomparable. It is my new go-to for a memorable experience.
There is only one word needed to describe a dining experience at Magdalena's - SUPERLATIVE!
The birthday celebration for my dear friend was perfection thanks to the delicious cuisine, our fantastic server, and the excellent sommelier recommendation from Andrew.
The atmosphere was very, very, nice, we sat in a room that looked like a wine cellar, everyone enjoyed the room. The problem was our waiter, I had to get up and tell him, very quietly, that he was very inattentive to our party of 6. He never came back to ask if we wanted more bread or water. He didn't remove other plates before we had our entrée. It was uncomfortable to have to look for him and he did not come into our area to see if everything was ok. But when he handed us the bill he said out loud "I'm sorry you felt I was inattentive". We all felt service training would be good for him or hire the right type of employee who was attuned to the needs and proper treatment of patrons. After we left Baltimore, in the evening, we went to Zinburger's and I remarked that the waitress who was fabulous should be working for Magdalena, she was attentive, fast and courteous.
The food was excellent. I felt that our server was not as attentive to use as other tables. Perhaps because we only ordered an entre, no appetizer and no wine. I also feel that the food is a bit overpriced and the wine is certainly higher priced than comparable restaurants. However I am glad that I had dinner there and would tell others to dine there as well.
Amazing restaurant to spend time at. The chef even came out to talk to people.
There are no words to describe how amazing this entire dinner experience. Blown away!!!
We visited Magdalena recently for a special occasion and were completely satisfied with the experience. The food was outstanding, as was the service. The staff at Magdalana were excellent at reading the mood of the room and each individual party, which heightened the experience and ensured that we made the most of the menu and wine list. This is not an every week restaurant for us, and our evening was made to feel special to reflect this.
I love everything about Magdalena. It is expensive so be prepared to spend more than you expected. But it's worth it!
Beautiful room. Lots of space. We were warned that it could be cool since we were seated in the “wine cellar”. However, blankets were provided at every chair. It’s not an inexpensive meal. But the food was delicious. We were cared for very well.
First time impressions were good. Menu could use additional entree selections. Appreciated complimentary valer parking. All staff were attentive and professional.
We celebrated our anniversary and overall enjoyed the time at Magdalena. Food was good and as well as the attentive service.
Food and service were very good. However, cost was high and portions small (two scallops for an entree).
The valet parking was good and attendants helpful. Table service left much to be desired. For the price of the entree, I felt it was so so, not especially well seasoned and a bit overcooked.
Wow. New favorite restaurant in Baltimore! Beautiful ambiance, amazing food, top notch service. I will definitely be back!
My new special occasion ... or just about any occasion spot!! The food and wine choices were one of the best in the city, and both were incredible. I must highlight my husband's cassoulet.. it was awesome, it was deconstructed but taste as good as any that had been baked in an oven for hours.
And I can't forget the service.... 5-star service all around.
Our recent experience was far beyond expectations. Service, food, ambiance - everything was perfect. A great way to celebrate my husband's birthday. This is now our go-to place for all future special events! Sincere thanks to Michelle (I hope I remembered our server's name correctly) for her outstanding care and service. JPB
First the good news - the food was excellent. Black Cod was melt in your mouth good as was the lamb shank and s"more sundae. The bad - there were only a few diners that night and they sat us all together and outside a large and loud retirement party. Not sure why they didn't put us in the other dining room away from the loud party. Also, I had called and asked for a quiet table as we were celebrating my husband's birthday. Not only did we not get a quiet table, but they bought the two other tables birthday desserts with a candle but didn't bring my husband one. Made me feel like the worst spouse ever even though I had called that day to tell them For a high end restaurant they dropped the ball on atmosphere and customer service.
The dishes were amazing and make sure to save room for desert. Wonderful place for our Anniversary. Great drinks also. Noise level wasn’t too bad but sitting by the bar probably didn’t help. However, once the crowd moved out. It was wonderful.
Amazing food, wonderful service, one of our new favorite dinner spots.
