I took my wife to Magdalena’s for Mother’s Day. It was our first time, but certainly will not be our last. Everything about the experience was first rate - from our cocktails to our three course meal. Everything that we each had was expertly prepared. Out waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and with a great sense of humor. The restaurant’s owners, Ed and Sylvia Brown, came to our table and introduced themselves. We had a wonderful conversation with them. They also set up a tour of the Ivy Hotel for us. We believe this is our “newest favorite” restaurant. Love it!
Incredible service and ambiance - second to none. One of the appetizers and both of the entrees (mahi mahi and NY strip steak) were over-salted. Rather disappointing meal that did not match the service and ambiance or the price of the food.
This was a very nice meal with friends. The menu and wine prices were a bit overpriced. I would come back again at some point.

Pampered from the moment our car pulled up outside. Food was creative, presentation on the plate was extremely well done, service was spectacular and the food was delicious.

Excellent dinner. Soft shell crab was crunchy and savory. Aquadale was tangy, spicy and pretty moderately sized. The carriage egg with snails was amazing. The foie grois was very good. The wagyu was good but not melt in ur mouth. The mahi mahi was very good and would recommend over the wagyu. The space is very tight and intimate. It does get loud because everyone is so close together. Complimentary valet is so amazing. Great restaurant located in the basement of the ivy hotel

Magdelena consistently offers a creative menu that provides frequent diners with new surprises at every visit. The food is the best in Baltimore. The service is attentive without being stuffy or intrusive. Return guests are remembered, and preferences noted, and you will be treated as a regular.
We have been wanting to try out Magdalena for some time and, when we planned on going to the nearby Center Stage, we tried it out. It far exceed our expectations. Attentive, yet not hovering (a personal peeve of mine) service, knowledgeable server, great pacing of the meal given our stated "hard stop" time for the theater, and delicious food, interestingly prepared and presented. We pored over the extensive and impressive winelist, which reflected some thought, and some unusual selections. offering both well-rated, and expensive old and new world wines, and a good selection of more modest price point wines, for someone perhaps not wanting to blow a modest budget saved for a special occasion meal. I suspect there will be quite a few people planning "special occasions" there. We are definitely planning a return when we can linger and enjoy dessert without having to clock-watch. One last comment: try the foie gras. Everyone has a way to prepare it, but this was very nicely prepared. A huge hit with both of us.

My wife and I were beyond thrilled with the innovative cuisine, amazing creative pairing of flavors and tastes to wow the senses and a strong and broad wine list and cocktail choices- this is the one of the top restaurants we've enjoyed in the last 10 years from New York to Maui to San Diego, Colorado, Palm Beach etc- Magdalena can hold its own anywhere in the US.
Many restaurants talk the talk of being "farm to table" but few actually taste the taste. Every bite at Magdalena testifies to its philosophy, and the result is somehow both subtle and mind-blowing.
Magdalena always provides a wonderful and memorable experience. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the Valet/Hotel Ivy doorman to the moment you leave, you feel like a most welcome guest. The service is impeccable and the cuisine always outstanding. Chef Mark Levy changes the menu frequently and offers not only tasty but also beautiful and appealing food options. Always something new and worth trying and they always have vegetarian options as well. It is our "go to" restaurant whenever we want that special night out or to celebrate a special event.
I have eaten with Chef Mark and part of his team in the past and I must say he has outdone himself with this menu. From the first bite of the appetizers to the last bite of the dessert I was amazed at how delicious every succulent plate was. I ordered the scallops for my main course and my Fiancé had the strip steak, if we could have, we would have licked the plates clean. Being from New York we are hard to impress and Chef and his team did not disappoint. The front of the house was no let down either. Never a empty plate on the table, never an empty glass of wine. Polite and attentive 100%! We will definitely be joining the team at The Magdalena again!
Got a last minute res on a Tuesday night before the Baltimore Speakers Series when all the other Mt Vernon restaurants were booked, so did not know it was such an expensive place. What a pleasure to walk in and find such a quiet elegant and relaxing decor. Loved the brown leather banquette, the view of the beautiful garden. I have food allergies and a very limited diet; the kitchen and the waitress Dottie were very responsive to my needs. Husband had a good time with the ceviche, foie gras, egg dish andThe chocolate soufflé for dessert. No alcohol and the bill was still close to $200 with tip, but we left feeling pampered and happy. We will definitely return for a special occasion.
I’ve dined here on a few occasions. Magdalena never disappoints!!! One of my absolute favorites in town!!!
From the time we drove up to the Valet parking till the time we left it was a perfect evening. The dining room is very lovely. Or server was Dottie, she was outstanding. The meal was spaced out perfect. Cocktails, app's and entrees everything was well done and very good. The outdoor space looks great, can't wait to return and try that when the weather is warmer. We will return again soon. Thank you all for the wonderful evening.

This us the best food I have had in Baltimore. It isn't innovative, it isn't unique, but the food here is so good. The presentation was beautiful and the food was perfectly spiced and perfectly cooked. I had the lamb which was excellent and the chick pea fries that came with were amazing. My dining companions enjoyed the Steak and Scallops and both loved their meals. We did have a slight mix up in service and waited a long time for our order to be taken, but once it was straightened out the service was good. The food is a little over priced, but for a special occasion, it's worth it.
We arrived at our reservation time for my wife’s bday dinner and were told it would be a bit so to go to the bar and get a drink. We said sure and were escorted to a bar booth and given drink menus and were told she would be right back for our orders. We waited 10 mins and she never returned. At this point the host returned because our table was ready. We waited 10 more minutes at the table before a server greeted us. We ordered drinks and apps and my wife has celiac so she ordered something that was prepared gluten free (remove the fried oyster). Apps come out and hers has the fried oyster on it and mine was the completely wrong dish (ordered octopus and received a fried egg salad). Both were taken back and mine took 10 mins longer to prepare which is fine. Because of this our entrees are on hold. We waited 20 minutes after our apps were completed to receive our entrees. We then waited another 15 minutes after entrees were completed to get dessert menus and 10 more minutes to ask if we wanted anything which at that point we just wanted to leave. Our server seemed very flustered all night and other tables were visibly experiencing the same lag. It didn’t seem overly busy so maybe we just caught it on a bad night. Food we had that was correct was good. All the mistakes and waiting around was just frustrating when you are at a nice establishment like this and celebrating. Expect better experience. I’m sure my wife won’t want to go back.
Lovely restaurant, fantastic food but disappointing service, especially given the prices. There were multiple glitches throughout the meal, starting with the fact that we waited a very long time before someone even brought us menus. Our waiter was nice but seemed rather inexperienced and not as smooth and professional as I expect when I am paying those prices. We still had a nice evening (and the food really was delicious), but I would have liked a better overall experience.
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The whole experience was outstanding -- food, service, ambience, value. Although the meal was expensive, I rated Value highly because I've eaten at restaurants far less impressive that cost the same.

We had not heard of this restaurant before, and the friends we were meeting insisted we try it with them (they had been before)! And we are SO glad they did. This was an exquisite experience. The waitstaff service was impeccable, and the food was more than outstanding!

At Magdalena, each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The Jonah crab appetizer was served with pickled radish which was a lively counterpoint to the sweet meat. Scallops were perfectly seared. The sous vide lamb was a little fatty, but was perfectly medium rare and meltingly tender. It was accompanied by merguez, fingerling potatoes and lightly pickled shishito peppers. Dessert was a wonderful rhubarb crumble. The suggested wine pairings were spot on. Service was attentive and helpful. We will definitely return.
We went to celebrate my husband's birthday with my nephew and his wife. We wanted to be in Baltimore close to where they lived. I had not heard a thing about this restaurant since we live in the D.C. area. I just used the reviews here to select. OMG, was this a wonderful experience! We arrived early so we sat at the bar and had some well prepared drinks and chatted with Beth the bartender who was just a real friendly individual. Our dinner was superb. For appetizers we had Foie Gras - nice big piece, Grilled Octopus - delicious, and Cauliflower soup - over the top. For the entrees we had Stone Bass - fish new to me, Scallops - huge and with amazing tandoori seasoning which worked, and 2 folks had the butternut squash cappelletti's - another signature dish. For desserts we had Apple Struedel, Cheesecake with Huckleberries, and a Banana Chocolate Torte, all of them just so delicious. The service was impeccable and super friendly but not in an obnoxious way. My partner got a bit tipsy and loud, but the wait staff were so nice to him. Even the valet service said Happy Birthday to him when we got into the car!!! We'll definitely go back even though it did cost a small fortune. Well worth it in our opinion. Something to remember. And a wine list designed by Robert Parker - can't go wrong with that.
The food was prepared to perfection and portion size was ideal. The attention to detail is a credit to the staff. I only wished I lived in Baltimore so I could frequent this exceptional restaurant more often.
Food was amazing so was the service. Only complaint is since our table was by the kitchen we had to listen to someone scrubbing and cleaning the kitchen floor while we were eating.
I dined at this restaurant to celebrate my sister's combined job promotion and relocation. Service was exceptional. But, the icing on the cake was the congratulatory style of the dessert they provided. We were both moved by the level of detail and how well various flavors complemented each other. They made an excellent impression.
Tastefully decorated. The bar area is cozy. The dining arrangements are intimate and good for conversation. The service was very good, and the wine list had some excellent options. The food was very well thought out, elegantly prepared and flavorful.
Another great experience at Magdalena. Fantastic service as usual, and great food as usual. Fourth visit here, it never disappoints.
