About Permanently Closed - Madrina
This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - Madrina, a new elevated dining restaurant concept from the Misery Loves Co. Restaurant Group (Sal Jafar, Michael Martensen, and Jeremy Hargrove) has won D Magazines Restaurant of the Year 2015 for Dallas, TX.
Chef David Fingerman's menu features Mexican dishes crafted via French techniques, such as hay-smoked foie gras made with jaggery, plantains, pepita and coconut; steak tartare with pickled papayas, dried jicama, capers, shallots and egg yolk; and okra-bell pepper ratatouille with masa crepe.
Michael Martensen (Proof + Pantry) is putting together a cocktail list of Mexican and French inspired drinks, and the wine menu will heavily feature French varietals.
Misery Loves Co. has partnered with design firm, Breckinridge Taylor, on the restaurant’s aesthetic. The space, like the food, will draw inspiration from Mexico and France — more specifically Paris and Mexico City.

This was my second visit to Madrina and it didn't disappoint. I was so happy to find that it was just as tasty the second time. The appetizers (guacamole and queso) were fresh and yummy. Entrees were unique and appealing. And I could go on and on about the service. Madrina might just become my new go-to spot!
Don't get me wrong, we love Madrina but there were some misses on our recent dinner. The filet came with frites that were soggy. The tortilla that accompanied the wild setas were cold and tasteless. The "tag team" servers can be confusing and sometimes overlap. Love the cocktails.
Second time I've been Madrina & absolutely love the cuisine. Had great service both times. My only complaint is my friend & I split an entree & they served me the entree & gave her a salad plate to put hers on. The waitress did split for us, but my friends portion looked horrible on the small plate! Very unappealing!
Superb service from Joshua. Great signature cocktail, the MLC.
Salads were fresh and inventive. Entrees included the tacos, the enchilada and the Barbacoa. The first two were fresh light tastes. Didn't get to taste the barbacoa but was told it was succulent. The horchata dessert was imaginative. Price point seemed a bit steep.
The open seating is very inviting. The music is at a perfect volume so that the ambiance is upbeat without impeding the ability to have a conversation. We especially loved the imaginative handcrafted cocktails! The salmon for entrée was light and flaky and had hints of fennel. Very different but welcome flavor pairings! Definitely will be back!
We celebrated our 10th anniversary Madrina. Our dinner was fabulous! I would the mussels and the pork chop. We consulted with the sommelier about a bottle of wine and she comped us two glasses of champagne since we were celebrating. The only drawback was the noise level. We were thinking of taking my parents there when they come to visit but we are afraid they won't be able to hear above the din. We will go back in the future, though!
We were at the restaurant to celebrate a birthday - I always like to try new venues. First time here and loved it - the food was outstanding; service a touch slow but we were there for the long haul anyway. Had the goat tacos - very flavorful. My son-in-law had the pork which ranks up there as one of the best. We will be going back very soon. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
One of my favorite places to eat in Dallas. Consistently good menu. Inventive, fresh, delicious, all accurately describe their food. Service is good/ food is prompt and on time, but wait staff seems to lack a little bit of polish that you might find at other high end restaurants.
Positives: Amazing food. New York modern atmosphere. No distracting tv's. Did I say the food was amazing?
Negatives: Service was polite, but terrible. Server took our order and we didn't see him at our table for 35 minutes. Water was empty within 5 and he was close by constantly. Never even acknowledged our need. A (manager?) did take my water and never returned it. Bar drinks are good but 90% ice.
Summary: Worth the lousy service and noise for the food, but had the service been better we would have ordered dessert, more drinks, and tipped very well.
We had to wait for almost an hour for our table. The table we were apparently waiting to leave was playing words with friends. We felt this could've been handled better. They did give us some free appetizers to help make up for the wait. Then our food came out of order. The doors was delicious but front of the house and management needs some help.
Having dietary restrictions (gluten-free, vegetarian), dining at Madrina was great. They had great options available and have excellent food, their theme being French-inspired Mexican cuisine. Great ingredients, carefully prepared, artistically presented and with great service.
Loved the food, service and experience. Marcus was our waiter and very focused on our satisfaction with anything we ordered, be it drinks, meal or desert. Unique flair with entrees and anything he suggested we did not like, he replaced. Definitely will be returning.
