Madison's Ratings and Reviews
I really wanted to give a five star review and on several levels it hit the mark. The service and atmosphere were as good as it gets and we were made to feel quite special while we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, while the food was good, it was not up to the same degree of excellence matching the service and charm of the setting. Old Edwards Inn captures it so well on so many fronts with their intuitive attention to detail and exacting standards which is what prompted me to share this feedback. The extraordinary specialness that typically laces everything OEI touches was missing with the food, especially our entrees. Being longtime OEI guests enjoying twenty plus stays at the inn, regular indulgences in their world class spa and meals shared with friends and family at their different dining venues, they have set our high expectations. Unfortunately on this occasion, our much anticipated celebratory meal left us underwhelmed.
We had a lovely dinner at Madison's. My trout with beets and bok choy was delicious and my husband was very impressed with his ribeye. Pete was our server and was friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness.
The restaurant is just beautiful. They have an extensive wine list and full bar. The sommelier stopped by our table, also, to offer any help with the wine list we might need.
The next morning we had breakfast at Madison's and it was really good. I loved the french toast and the coffee was very good. We were seated by the windows, so we had a nice view out onto the sunny wine garden.
We would go back to Madison's again when in Highlands.
Always a pleasure to have a meal at Madison's. Great atmosphere, good food selection; items always prepared with utmost care. Attentive service, good variety of items for all tastes, good value. One of our favorite restaurants in Highlands (a Town that has many top notch restaurants(.
Madison's is probably the best restaurant in Highlands, ingredients are freshly selected and not drenched in sauce. The room is very elegant and comfortable, the service was probably the best part. Amiable and always professional. Make sure to book in advance, it's almost impossible to go there spontaneously.
We expected a high quality experience at the famous Old Edwards Inn to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were very disappointed. We each ordered the ribeye dinner and shared a salad. The salad was good, and service was very good. The steak was cooked to our requests, but was the worst steak I can remember from a good restaurant. It was thin, and about 50% was fat and grizzle, hard to cut, and heavily salted. A real disappointment. We also ordered a "triple chocolate mousse plate" for dessert. It consisted of two chocolate candy size pieces, two small (1") broken pieces of chocolate cake, and two Pepperidge Farms cookies and one small spoonful of mousse for $13. They did write Happy Birthday with chocolate sauce on the plate.
They asked how we liked our dinner and we told them. They offered us a free meal the next evening, but we were leaving town the next day. So they comped us for two glasses of wine and our dessert. Unfortunately it was a low point of an otherwise nice visit to Highlands.
Great ambiance, terrible service, so-so food. We have been to Madisons several times for lunch when we visit Highlands and always have a meal at this spot. This time was our last time. Terrible unresponsive service and “nothing special” food with small portions. Adds up to low value with service I expect at a diner.
Madison's unfortunately is hit or miss as of late. We celebrated a Christmas Eve lunch here and while the restaurant is beautiful and the management very gracious, the lunch was terrible. Our server began by pouring water on the table after attempting to fill out water glasses and never came to clean up the spill which was a small puddle. Then she did the same with the wine after trying to finish the bottle into four glasses all at once. We were surprised at her lack of wine pouring experience: she did not present the bottle, she had difficulty removing the glass cork and she did not even let one of us taste the wine before pouring. Once the wine was poured, it took sometime for the server to come back around to take the order. Once the order was taken, it took 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. In between, placing the order and receiving the first course, we never saw the server. The first course was fine, pimento cheese dip and soup. The second course arrived 30 minutes later which was 3 caesar salads and one steak salad. The caesar salads lacked flavor and the steak salad was horrible. This salad was supposed to be topped with steak cooked medium-rare, but it came out as medium-well roast beef. It was very strange and totally unappetizing. We never saw the server to express our issue with the salad. Management finally came around during the second course to inquire about our meal and we expressed our disappointment both in the server, the wine service and the food. The did remove the steak salad from our bill and apologized for the server's faults. We have eaten at Madison's many times in the past and while we used to have very good service and food, the last couple of times both have suffered. We hope they get back to four or five stars as we've enjoyed dining here in the past.
It is the quintessential Highlands experience. Lovely in every way. From the ambience to the food and service, it’s why we drive up to the NC mountains to dine. We brought 6 people who had never experienced Madison’s and they were in love. You never fail to blow us away, Madison’s! Thank you for a wonderful early Christmas celebration with family. ❤️❤️❤️
Madison's was perfect. The service was phenomenal. We had the potato soup and it was an incredible presentation and very filling and full of flavor. Also had the braised short ribs which were so tender and the seasonal greens were perfectly seasoned. My husband had the mushroom pasta and loved it. Wine list is incredible. Highly would recommend to anyone ! Worth every penny.
