My wife and I had dinner at Madison's while staying at the Old Edwards Inn. The dining room is very cozy with low ceilings. It has that old but elegant look with lots of wood molding, both painted and natural (stained dark), and also a stone wall toward the back of the restaurant which might have been an original outside wall at one time. There are lots of windows which let in a lot of natural light, so great for daytime dining (night too!). The food was very good all around. My wife had a mushroom pasta entree and I had a special fish-of-the-day entree. Everything was excellent. We shared a souffle for dessert which was superb. And, the prices are really quite reasonable for a high-end establishment (member Relais & Chateaux). Everything is relative, of course, but I think this was a good value for a high end restaurant. We would definitely go there again if/when in Highlands, NC, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a higher end dinner option there.
The best in town!
Madison's as usual did not disappoint. Food, service, ambiance outstanding. They acknowledged the birthday being celebrated, everything is above and beyond. One thing that pleased me and this is likely a fluke, but in a previous visit I remarked that they went to a lot of work to prepare an excellent meal and served it on a cold plate. This time the plate was nice and hot that really makes the meal so much more enjoyable. Great drinks, wine, can't give enough accolades.
Truly excellent, creative, mostly locally sourced food. Impeccable service. Perfect for a special occasion or just for an excellent meal without TVs, blaring music and noisy groups.
We were there for lunch on our anniversary. The restaurant is lovely and it was very quiet. Our server, Anna Marie, was outstanding. We each had a glass of Cabernet to start, and the wine was very good. My husband had the cheeseburger which he said was excellent . I had the fish and chips—the fish was good, but nothing special. The fries, however, were super good, crispy on the outside and soft ins—yum! Anna Marie brought us meringue chocolate kisses to have with our coffee and a rose for our anniversary—very nice and thoughtful.
Excellent service. We were running late getting into town and missed our reservation. We called to cancel and they said they’d keep the kitchen open for us. They had our food out in less than 20 minutes and it was excellent. The braised short ribs were easily the best I’ve ever had. Our server, Robert, provided excellent service and even gave us complimentary dessert to take back to our room. We’ll definitely be back!
Madison's never disappoints..food, service and ambiance is always just perfect!
oxoxoxo
Was a late dinner and had hoped to have a quiet one with nice wine. We were seated next to a large table with multiple small children. Requested a different table and were seated next to the kitchen door! Was very loud and we heard it ever time the waiters went in and out of the kitchen!
Service was outstanding and food was awesome. This is truly a five star restaurant!
Perfection as always. We love everything about Madison’s. Everything except not knowing when we will get to dine there again.
Excellent food & service!
The service was top-notch. Our waitress went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and was so pleasant throughout .. checking in to make sure we felt good with our dish selections. The ambience was just gorgeous. Being there with my husband and getting to spend such a romantic night made it all worth while. Overall, everyone made us feel very welcome and treated us with so much respect ... I will go to Madison’s over and over again when we go back to be Highlands - good food, great atmosphere and quality service and workers ..
We celebrated our anniversary at Madison's on Sunday evening the 18th of March. Our waiter was Jamie & he was divine. The food was excellent, however they do need to add a really good Moscato to the wine list. Overall our experience was awesome, we have dined at Madison's previously & will certainly again. We enjoyed talking with Garrett the manager as well .

Vegetarian not an option!
We had an excellent lunch here. Thanks to servers Gemma and Ann and hostess/manager Sandra. All treated us like royalty. The food and service was superb!
This is a wonderful restaurant and one of our favorite destinations. When we are in Cashiers and Highlands we always eat at Madison's in the Old Edwards Inn at least one time. This past St. Patrick's weekend we ate there twice. Dinner was fabulous and the service was superb. We had our favorite server Pete who had actually been our server exactly one year earlier when we were at the restaurant in 2017. He is fantastic and made our special occasion even more special. if you go on Friday night to this restaurant you should ask for him although I think all the servers are excellent. We also had lunch at Madison's on Sunday which was equally fantastic with servers Gemma and Ann. New at Madison's is the dinning room manager Sandra Stefani. An Italian native she adds a definite European flavor and expertise to the restaurant. She is truly wonderful and very detail oriented. She will insure that you have a fabulous dining experience. Sandra is a real asset to a wonderful restaurant, establishment and dining experience. One word of advice. Reserve early. Madison's books up at least 2 weeks in advance for weekend dining.
We love eating here each time we come to Highlands! The food is amazing and we love trying something new each time, it never disappoints!

Excellent Service: Chloe and Sandra were very polite and attended us as a kings. Thank you
Disappointed. Our waiter presented a $60 bottle of wine (that retails for $12 or less) after we said our budget was $50. He lost our trust after that.
The sirloin was more fat than meat and the skin on flounder was just ok.
Service was good and the restaurant is pretty - just disappointed $’s didn’t equal quality.
Madison’s may be the best restaurant in Highlands. This was our fifth year in a row to reunite with our friends. Out of the four nights we were at the Old Edwards Inn, we elected to eat dinner at Madison’s three of them. Great food and service thanks to our servers Pete and Penny, and our wine sommelier and steward, Phillipe and Garrett. The last night we were there, we requested a custom tasting menu with wine parings! They stepped up and created a memorable dinner!
Exceptional dining experience!
Service was great. Entree was just OK. Everything else was great. One of the prettiest restaurants I have ever seen. We will be back.
Amazing experience!
Lovely dining experience
Fabulous lunch❗️
Wonderful experience for my husbands birthday celebration.
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Madison's. We will definitely return the next time we're in Highlands. Thanks so much for the wonderful and memorable experience!
This was our third visit to Madison's. Always a wonderful experience!
I really wanted to give a five star review and on several levels it hit the mark. The service and atmosphere were as good as it gets and we were made to feel quite special while we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, while the food was good, it was not up to the same degree of excellence matching the service and charm of the setting. Old Edwards Inn captures it so well on so many fronts with their intuitive attention to detail and exacting standards which is what prompted me to share this feedback. The extraordinary specialness that typically laces everything OEI touches was missing with the food, especially our entrees. Being longtime OEI guests enjoying twenty plus stays at the inn, regular indulgences in their world class spa and meals shared with friends and family at their different dining venues, they have set our high expectations. Unfortunately on this occasion, our much anticipated celebratory meal left us underwhelmed.
We had a lovely dinner at Madison's. My trout with beets and bok choy was delicious and my husband was very impressed with his ribeye. Pete was our server and was friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness.
The restaurant is just beautiful. They have an extensive wine list and full bar. The sommelier stopped by our table, also, to offer any help with the wine list we might need.
The next morning we had breakfast at Madison's and it was really good. I loved the french toast and the coffee was very good. We were seated by the windows, so we had a nice view out onto the sunny wine garden.
We would go back to Madison's again when in Highlands.
Everyone at Madison’s was there to insure that out meal was as good as it could be. The food and care that goes into the food is amazing.
Great service from walking in until we left. Very pleasant and helpful staff. We will definitely be visiting again.
Fantastic experience.
Always a pleasure to have a meal at Madison's. Great atmosphere, good food selection; items always prepared with utmost care. Attentive service, good variety of items for all tastes, good value. One of our favorite restaurants in Highlands (a Town that has many top notch restaurants(.
Madison's is probably the best restaurant in Highlands, ingredients are freshly selected and not drenched in sauce. The room is very elegant and comfortable, the service was probably the best part. Amiable and always professional. Make sure to book in advance, it's almost impossible to go there spontaneously.
The food was outstanding. Everything we ordered was delicious. The servers were attentive and the atmosphere is elegant but being in a mountain town it was fine to be casual. I will definitely come back to Madison's next time we are in Highlands.
We expected a high quality experience at the famous Old Edwards Inn to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were very disappointed. We each ordered the ribeye dinner and shared a salad. The salad was good, and service was very good. The steak was cooked to our requests, but was the worst steak I can remember from a good restaurant. It was thin, and about 50% was fat and grizzle, hard to cut, and heavily salted. A real disappointment. We also ordered a "triple chocolate mousse plate" for dessert. It consisted of two chocolate candy size pieces, two small (1") broken pieces of chocolate cake, and two Pepperidge Farms cookies and one small spoonful of mousse for $13. They did write Happy Birthday with chocolate sauce on the plate.
They asked how we liked our dinner and we told them. They offered us a free meal the next evening, but we were leaving town the next day. So they comped us for two glasses of wine and our dessert. Unfortunately it was a low point of an otherwise nice visit to Highlands.
Absolutely the best dining in Highlands. The pimiento cheese to begin with is divine. Try the house salad with homemade buttermilk dressing. Amazing. Then you can only improve from there with any entree and dessert. Wonderful!
Delicious food and helpful advice from Chloe(?), our waitress
