Madison's Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed a quick dinner on a Friday early evening. Sat with 2 of us at the high top tables, service was great. Split a burger and tater tots. Both were outstanding, not overly big burger but super juicy. The tater tots were outstanding with some dipping sauce adding to the flavor, I liked the parmesan on the tater tots as a preparation. Try the Blackberry Mojito, perfect flavor and strength.
Don't order the Harvest Salad
My friends and I were in town for the CrossFit Games. I wanted something healthy so I ordered the Harvest Salad. It was awful but I was very hungry. The iceberg lettuce was browning. The chicken had a wierd mouthfeel and I'm sure the grill marks were drawn in. I am very happy I didn't get sick from it.
My friends had a burger and fish tacos. They enjoyed their meals. The drinks were good. Service was prompt and very friendly.
I'm returning to Madison the city, not Madison's the restaurant.
Madison's has a great look to it. We went at a slow time and were seated right away. We sat away from the "crowd" so we could converse. Our server seemed to forget we were there however. We were perhaps out of sight out of mind. Cocktails and beer was very good. Food was very good as well but I would skip the crab cakes next time. Seemed to be more cake than crab. Overall it was a good experience.
My friend and I chose this spot for an early, pre theatre dinner. We were seated immediately, and had a great server. The drinks and food were delivered promptly and everything tasted great! Madison's has a great atmosphere. The only issue is the noise level. I have been here two times - once on a Sunday afternoon, and once on a Friday night. Both times, it was very hard to hear the people I was with, because of the noise level. Otherwise, it's a terrific spot!
Came for brunch. Great bloody Marys and The Morning After cocktail was delicious. The poutine we shared with the table. Our kids said their food was good. Unfortunately, our had a little mix up and they accidentally used the French toast batter for our omelet, but they apologized and did not charge us for the omelet. Otherwise, everything was very tasty, really great service and cool atmosphere. We would definitely come back sometime.
The atmosphere was nice, the location is great (right next to the Capitol), but the place was noisy (ok for a company of friends, not good for a date in my opinion). Food was a bit overpriced for its quality (steak was very small and while it was ordered medium-rare it arrived medium, if not well-done). Beer selection was ok, cocktails were good.
We decided to try Madison's for NYE 2017. It was awesome! The food was delicious and there was a very reasonably priced prime rib special. The corn and red pepper bisque was amazing. The drinks were great - I especially loved "the libation" and "the scotch cocktail." Also our waitress was awesome! We're already talking about wanting to come back for NYE 2018. Can't say enough good.
Enjoyed a great experience overall. We are in our late mid sixties but yet greeted warmly and served with great attention. We haven't gone downtown for an evening in quite awhile but we took a chance. Sometimes being surrounded and overwhelmed by millennials can be uncomfortable. Here everyone was just enjoying the evening.
Our server was pleasingly attentive but it never felt like she was trying to rush us in order to flip for the next customer. She is definitely an asset to Madison's.
We were in a small room where the noise from the tables bounced off the walls easily but more distracting was the loud music they pumped into the room that made it very difficult to even try to maintain conversation. Such music maybe ok in the bar but should be shut off or very muted in the rooms.
Busy weekend affected our experience. It was the Friday before the big Nebraska game in Madison. We had a reservation for 7 people. The hostess was great and our table was ready. Very quickly we became aware that our waitress was stressed and hated her job. She was impatient when we were ordering and after our food was delivered she ignored us entirely. We had empty drinks and not a drop of water left at our table. We saw our server attending to other tables, clearly they didn't have enough help. Food is standard bar fare, passable. Location is great which is why we may recommend if someone needs a place for a group, but we will advise they bring their patience!!
The service at Madison's was outstanding, as were the salads and the veggie melt. The fish tacos were a surprise because the fish was breaded and fried. I could hardly taste the fish because of the overpowering, tart onions. Quite a variety of good wines -- each of the six of us ordered something different.
This was the first time we were not very happy with the food and service. There was a beer fest in town so the restaurant was more crowded than usual. The wait staff was very busy. I had requested another beer but never received it. The fish on the fish fry was kind of soggy. The nachos appeared and tasted overcooked as the cheese was very dry. We tried the won ton brat appetizers and they were quite tasty. We have been here several times and have always been happy with the food and service. We graded the food and service down to good as opposed to very good or excellent as we were averaging it with the other times. I am sure this was just a fluke and we will return.
We had never been to Madison's and, since it was restaurant week, we decided to try it. We were very pleased. We enjoyed a seat by the window (too hot to eat outside:). Our waitress was good and prompt with our order and extra drinks. Food was excellent. For sure, we will come again!! The only concern is the noise level. It was okay for us at a window table away from the bar when the place wasn't totally packed. I think it'd be uncomfortably loud on a busy night.
Food was very good so was the service. It is not really a restaurant but more like a bar. Beer selection is adequate so options for meet, fish or veggie lovers. Fish tacos and fried chicken sandwich were excellent. Was a bit louder than I would have liked, specially if you want to have a conversation. Overall is a good choice for an informal gathering. If you are expecting table cloth, real napkins, quiet romantic place better go somewhere else.
Compliments from the 7 other people that were with me. Tater Tot Nachos are to die for. Just tried the Brat Tots and they are also great. Orders were fish tacos, the fish fry, some sandwiches. Everything was great. Waitress, Caley, was very concerned that we enjoyed our meal and had enough time to make it to the show. We will be back!
We showed up for Saturday brunch at noon. We were greeted right away by the hostess and showed to our table. It was all downhill from there. We were ignored for 15 minutes by the wait staff buzzing back and forth. Only when we went back up to the hostess to point this out did someone stop by to finally take our drink orders. There was a large crowd in the table in the corner of the dining area and no one tried to get them to quiet down. The food was nothing special EXCEPT for the truffle tater tots. Those were delicious. However, if I wanted some of those, I would place a to-go order and get out of there. While it is a bar, this was Saturday brunch and it is reasonable to expect a quieter crowd and better service. There wasn't a big game on the tvs, just a boring Saturday with delicious tots that were ruined with poor service and a noisy table of people that forgot about those around them.
This isn't so much a restaurant as it is a bar. Which is fine - food was acceptable. High tables with bar stools. They put reservations in a back room, away from the bar noise and crowd which was great. It's location was convenient and the service was good. If looking for a step-up to bar food, I'd go again. Nothing great, though.
We went there for dinner and New Years Eve Party. We were a family of eight and we had great time! Food was great! Service was great! We had a fun filled night! One recommendation would be that a couple of people in our party would go out to smoke and then they would have a really hard time getting back in. I understand that it was New Years but they should have had a separate door for those that wanted to step outside and then come back in without the hassle. Other than that I would definatly recommended Madison's to anyone!
Open table made this sound like a upscale bar and grille. The place is nice, we were there on a slow Monday but at 7 pm and there were very few diners. The special for the night was Tater Tot Nachos so my client was in her words, underwhelmed. server left for long periods but she may have been the only one on duty. The Salmon was good but not special. fun college town bar, not a place I will take a client again.
Our overall experience was good as we have been to Madison's before. This visit was not as good as our first where we had a very knowledgeable server, who told us many great things about Madison the city as we were new transplants. We had a couples date on a Saturday night with a reservation. The reservation was not needed that night, but I am glad they take them anyway. Our server was prompt to a fault...She took drink and appetizer orders while we waited for our friends to arrive. Promptly after our apps arrived she was pressuring for entree orders...we hadn't even taken a bite yet. I knew what was going to happen next. We ordered dinner the next time she came to the table and the entrees came right on top of the apps. We were enjoying the night and conversation and now had food everywhere, with hardly any room to set down a drink. The busing staff was very annoying...interrupting our conversation every 2 minutes looking to clear plates we hadn't even taken bites off of. We went to Madison's based on our first experience, but will probably give them one more shot before crossing them off the regular list of square bars to spend money at.
We found this great little place while in Madison, WI right by the capital building. We dined very early due to our travel schedule and had complete attention from our waitress. She pointed out all the local favorites and not to miss dishes. We tried them all including the special local beer.
Although we do not live close to here, I would recommend it to anyone in the area. It is well worth a stop! There is a section that has more of a restaurant feel and a section that has more of a sports bar feel so you will find something for everyone!
