Madison's Grill - Union Bank Inn
We had the six course surprise dinner experience. It had several dishes that we probably wouldn't have ordered on our own; scallops and the pork medallions with goat cheese. We were a little disappointed with the striploin steak course as the meat was somewhat less than tender. Also while it was good we felt the dessert was left over from their Valentine special.
Our experience was outstanding. The ambience was exactly what we wanted for a cosy romantic dinner. Even though the restaurant was full it was not loud and the jazz playing in the background was just the right level.
The food ....oh my goodness, where do I begin? The duck seared scallops...amazing, the swordfish...amazing and the delicate cake was spectacularly light.
Excellent wine and port choices and coffees completed our experience. The server Bryan was superb. We loved that we were not rushed, good food takes time and we appreciated that.
This was one of the best meals we have ever had in Alberta and we can't wait to go back.
We highly recommend making reservations at Madison.
We've been to Madison's Grill twice. My fiance and I enjoyed the "Wine and Dine" tasting menu the first time, and the Valentine's special menu the second. Both experiences were delicious, however I will say that the Wine and Dine experience was superior. A tour of delicious small plates created with care by the chef, and expertly paired with perfect wines by our very attentive server. We loved every bite! The only negative I can think of is that the price point of the Valentine's menu wasn't quite right, and was a little on the high side for what we were given. However, it still wasn't a miss, and was definitely made an even better experience with exceptional and attentive service. I wish that I could remember his name, but he has been our server both times, and has always gone above and beyond to make sure we were happy and enjoyed every bite. I'd like to take him with me everywhere to choose wines!
All good except we sat at 7 and didn’t get mains till 9
We decided to change up our valentines day dinner and try something different this year. My coworker highly recommended this restaurant for their lunch. We were very disappointed at both the service and food. For a meal that costs over $100 per person this was definitely not worth it. We were greeted by an unorganized team of staff. The waiter that we got didn't really know the dishes they were providing and wasn't able to give us too much info. We asked how is the lamb cooked and the answer we got was " its baked". It turns out the lamb has a very sweet sauce and my wife did not enjoy that at all. Good thing she liked the beef wellington. The main dish was at not even hot, i would say warm at best. The desert was a mediocre, which disappointed my wife even more because that was her favorite course. We asked the waiter if the creme brulee had a strong cinnamon taste to it because my wife cannot stand it at all. He told us its just a touch of cinnamon, but in fact the whole creme brulee was cinnamon flavored. We didn't want to raise a big fuss over this because it was valentines day and didn't want to ruin anyone else's night. Needless to say, we will not be ever coming back here again. This is our 5th valentines day dinner and the most expensive one and yet got the worse service and sub par food. The only part we really enjoyed was the cozy environmentWe decided to change up our valentines day dinner and try something different this year. The food was delicious and the service was attentive but not intrusive and the maître d’ went above and beyond
Consistently top level cuisine and service. Friendly, quiet, not rushed.
Small setting with a great atmosphere and service. Our server was great and the meal was delicious.
Beautiful decor. Server very professional. Food well presented and delicious.
Went on Tuesday night, it was very quiet and place us near the fireplace.
Everything was perfect. Bill high but to be expected because of the quality of food, decor and service .
Great experience. Will go back.
We were made to feel special by Todd, our server, from the moment we walked in to when we walked out after a leisurely 2 hour meal. He was attentive, but not overly so, and new the menu and wine list very well. The food was outstanding although my portion of bison was a little small. Overall, this is an excellent restaurant for those special occasions.
Great for business meetings over coffee. Service was attentive without being adhesive.
Had a very enjoyable meal prior to heading out to an ESO performance. It was truly great to be in a place where you could carry on a normal conversation without having to shout over the noise prevalent in so many eateries these days. The food was excellent, service was great, dessert was superb.
We will return for future engagements - it is just nice to be able to relax, have easy conversation with my spouse and enjoy good food.
I chose Madison's Grill for its elegance and ambiance for a business luncheon with visitors from out of town. The meal and the service were wonderful, and the quiet near the fireplace on a cold day were just perfect! Parking is the only annoying bit. Many thanks. I'll be back.
We went for a pre- Theatre dinner. The special 3-course menu was an excellent value for $48 each!
Hopefully more people enjoy it prior to going to the Citadel or to a Roger’s Place event.
Dinned at Madison’s Grill before a show. Nice ambiance and vibe. The service was wonderful. We went as a group of 6. Everyone enjoyed their meals and wine. Only downfall was portion size. $17 for 3 perogies seemed pretty steep. Had the salmon myself and enjoyed it; again a smaller portion of salmon then expected the sides were a good portion. Hotel itself is beautifully classic.
We had a fantastic, quiet and romantic dinner at Madison Grill. The server was amazing and checked in whenever he noticed we needed something while giving us space to talk and enjoy the evening. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Excellent meal served by professional servers. quiet ambiance perfect for a romantic dinner.
Enjoyed our meal. The anniversary chocolate covered cherries and strawberries were a lovely, thoughtful touch.
Excellent service great food. Always consistent
Great food, great service, and a very enjoyable experience overall.
We really enjoyed the 3 course tasting menu paired with wine! We found that we could focus more on conversation than picking from the menu and the value selection exceeded our expectations.
Always such a beautiful place to eat. The ambience is really not found anywhere else in this city.
Very good food and attentive service. Only negative was discovering the tasting menu had to be selected by all people at the table.
Awesome!! Food and atmosphere was great! Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Great spot if you'r looking for a sit-down breakfast downtown. Food is tasty and service is quick. Quiet spot where you can meet a colleague for a breakfast meeting. Nicely decorated in vintage decor.
Me and my boyfriend tried their 3 course tasting menu, overall it was a good and enjoyable meal. A few things we thought the chef might want to look into it are the sauce of the appetizer was a bit salty while the tuna had already had enough flavor, the beef was a bit overcooked -- it was more close to medium while we were expecting it would be medium-rare, for the dessert, the flavour was good, the cake itself was food but just the presentation of it made it a little bit difficult to eat as a whole -- we were trying not to crush the cake from the top
Restaurant was quite empty. It was likely recovering from the "busyness" of Grey Cup Week. Perhaps because of this, we were advised that both food and alcohol supplies had been depleted and replenishment orders had not yet been received. This notwithstanding, our server was very helpful in helping us to choose menu items still available. The food quality, presentation and taste was very good. While the wine we requested was not available, a suitable substitute was recommended and provided. Staff were attentive but not obtrusive. The restaurant's ambiance was more than suitable for the business purpose of this meeting.
Solomon was amazing. Kudos to the kitchen staff. Everything was perfect. And Kevin the manager came to greet us and treated us like VIPs.
This is our favourite place for a special occasion. Outstanding service and a quiet atmosphere make for a perfect place to have a quiet, elegant dinner.
Excellent food - excellent service! The food was well presented and hot.
We were here for our 40 year anniversary. Everything was just perfect and we were really impressed worth the whole experience.
I've been to the Madison Grill at least 10 times over the past three years and their attention to detail is slipping. The service is slow and sloppy and, for the price, I'm not sure the quality of the food is where it should be.
Always amazing - this elegant, fine dining restaurant presents creative and modern takes on classic dishes. Staff are particularly friendly and helpful. Enjoy!
We enjoyed a lovely Birthday Lunch at Madison’s. Our salads, mains and dessert were not the ordinary.
The room was quiet for visiting and the service was excellent. The decor is beautiful upscale and inviting.
We will definitely return.
A creative menu, superbly executed, and first-class ambience and service. The décor and building are a feast for the eyes almost as much as the food is for the palate. The layout lends itself, somehow, to a quiet and private experience in an open space. And the staff are true professionals, which makes SUCH a difference. You simply cannot go wrong and any meal here is a treat.
Our favorite restaurant any time we celebrate
Overall my experience was rather bluh. It was not bad enough to right a poor review nor outstanding enough for a good review.
The food was average, nothing exciting nor worth writing about, yet wasn't bad and I ate my entire plate.
Service was okay, the restaurant was completely dead so we had the undivided attention of the server. Other than the missing bread plates I thought it was suffice, but not on the extraordinary level of Ruth's Chris or Corso32.
This is our second time here, We love the waiter and was actually sat in the same exact spot both times lol, By the window, which is unfortunately a little breezy and it was cold both times. That is my only complaint, that and I wish we could afford to come more often, lol. My husband had the Beef Wellington and had to share it was soooo good OMG! I have the fall menu (3 course meal) which was $55 it was amazing and affordable! Love love love this place. And we love our waiter! amazing
It was very lovely to have dinner here. The decor and ambience is cozy and old Victorian style. It's a total time shift to dine here. The service was phenomenal, it absolutely made the entire dinner 10/10. I felt so pampered and we'll treated. Can't wait to come back.
Food was delicious, ambience warm and welcoming, service was flawless. My only complaint is the difficulty parking. While spots are available and reserved for hotel guests, none are set aside for dining room patrons. I would encourage that whe people call to reserve that parking options be discussed.
