Madison's Grill - Union Bank Inn Ratings and Reviews
Have not been there for about 10 years - the food has always been mediocre. For Valentines, I booked a few weeks in advance... the Sat before, the restaurant called to confirm and see if we wanted to participate in 6 course meal for the 220 price... I said no to the six course as we discussed it earlier. We wanted the regular menu.... A few prior again, the call was made to confirm again our reservation... We when arrived, we were forced (I guess we could have left) to participate in the 6 course.... 350 bucks later (with tip), it was one of the crappiest meals and the service generic. It was like a factory routine. Risotto - I said really? He says.. that is all you can have with the fish... Salad was lame and generic.... the fish was ok... the chocolate cake was dry... All in all - will we ever go back... never!!!! It was less than mediocre.... Decor was nice. My food at home is thousand times better than what we had.
On Valentine’s Day some couples choose to stay in. We on the other hand choose to spend the night together reflecting on the year we have had and what we see in our future. In order to do this we always book a high end restaurant where we believe the service is going to be flawless so that we have time to focus on us with minimal distractions. This time we chose Madison’s Grill. This time we made a mistake. This time , our experience has changed our Valentine’s Day tradition forever.
Our reservation was booked for 730. There was a lady offering to take our jackets to place safely in their complimentary coat check. With confidence we handed in our jackets. Kevin proceeded to approach us to let us know our table was ready. We had to tell him we haven’t received our coat check ticket yet. He marched us over to the coat check, where we saw our jackets sitting on a shelf and he demanded that the lady gave us our tag. She grabbed a random coat tag (58) from a pile. As we sat all we could worry about was our jackets knowing that this was the incorrect tag. We were seated at 7:35 and the coat check lady came by at 745 to ask my boyfriend if his jacket was the Canadian goose. He replied yes(there was ten other Canadian goose jackets ) at 7:50 she came back with my jacket in hand asking “ma’am is this your jacket” I replied “yes” and she walked away. She came back two minutes later saying our hanger broke and gave us a new coat tag (40). It was quit obvious that she was just put under pressure by Kevin to randomly hand us a tag so we could be seated. It is now 7:55 and still no server has been by.
At 8:00pm our server comes by with “CAN I GRAB YOU EACH A GLASS OF WATER?” We could tell he was almost begging us to say yes because he was so busy. I reply “yes..-and” ... he was gone. It is now 815 and the couple sitting next to us who was seated 5 minutes after and still has not been approached walks out..I would like someone to contact me as I am limited to characters
Had brought my wife there for our first Valentines Day as a married couple. The ambiance was great, the menu was outstanding and the service was prompt and friendly. She and I had a great dinning experience and will gladly recommend Madison Grill to anyone looking for an amazing meal and experience.
My husband and I dined at Madison’s Grill as a pre-Valentine date. The restaurant’s ambient environment owes itself to original architecture and is a noted an historical building. We had the pork belly and scallops as appetizers and enjoyed the steal and sea bream for our mains. We both very much enjoyed our meals. The wow in our meal came a the end where we shared the pannacotta. It was sweet corn favoured with a buttery caramel topped with sea salt and whipped cream. It was the perfect sharing dessert! All the flavours were perfectly blended together. The serving staff were very attentive and were welcoming.
We will be back.
We ate at Madisons on a quiet Sunday evening just before Valentines day. Service was excellent with an efficient yet friendly attitude. The room is quite spacious and laid out in such a way that almost all tables can have private conversations without others hearing them.
We both chose the 3-course tasting menu with wine pairings. The food and wines were all excellent. Our main included one of the best Striploin steaks I have eaten, but we had been hoping that our surprise menu would include their more creative, interesting items.
My wife and I were at Madison's Grill this past Saturday for my birthday and we were completely blown away! First, the atmosphere is very contemporary and elegant yet not at all "stuffy". Very inviting, romantic and intimate with a gentle ambiance.
Second, our Host and Server were excellent, personable, friendly, generous and informative. Very welcoming which only added to our great dining experience.
Third, our meals were incredible! My wife enjoyed her Roasted Beet and Chevre Salad followed by the Filet of Beef and finished with a lovely Apple Strudel. I thoroughly enjoyed my Bourbon Bone Marrow not knowing what to expect since it was my first time trying this dish. Next, I devoured the Red Wine Rabbit which was paired with a very nice Shiraz. For my dessert, my wife arranged for a Crème Brûlée for me which wasn't even on the menu! Since this is a favourite dessert of mine, I'm pretty picky and this one did not disappoint at all!
Lastly, this was such an incredible dining experience straight across the board! Everything was just perfect and we'll be definitely going back there. Highly recommend Madison's Grill!
Madison Grill was one of my favourite 'go to' places while I was working downtown. Haven't been back often since my retirement. But invited a friend to join me for brunch this past weekend, and was very glad I did. The menu still featured my favourite smoked salmon eggs benedict - and they were as fine as I remember. The ingredients - both mine and my friends - were fresh. The presentation of the meals were lovely. The coffee was hot, plentiful and well brewed. The service was excellent. The restaurant was surprisingly unbusy for mid morning weekend brunch. (Perhaps, like me, others are preferring locales where the parking is free/more accessible.) The restaurant was consequently wonderful for conversation and the staff were in no hurry for us to leave. I will be back!
I went here on Christmas and had a terrible experience. The menu had no prices (which later turned out to be an unpleasant surprize!), the portions were tiny and my steak was very hard to chew and dry. The waiter did not explain the menu, did not announce the dishes, and simply threw the bill on our table at the end of the meal. On top of everything else, it was very cold in the washrooms. Not a pleasant night :-(
This is an exceptional find in Edmonton. Kevin, the restaurant manager has an ability to make his guests feel very welcome and he has great attention to detail. The menu changes regularly but the quality and beautiful presentation of the meals is a very high standard that does not change. I have been frequenting this restaurant since the late 1990's and the experience of quality does not dim.
The ambience is amazing here. A nice sized room with very comfortable seating. The service is outstanding. They even dropped us off at the theatre as a bonus. Food is delicious - it’s a great downtown location for a date. In our case dinner and the theatre.
We were a table of 5, first to arrive in the restaurant at lunch but served LAST. It took over an hour to get our food, and only when prompted to the manager to look in to it. We did not take long to decide on food, nor order complicated meals either. He was laissez faire about the wait, saying it was up next (exact same thing the waiter said 20 minutes earlier), and said they are busy, it's Christmas. Our food did arrive about 10 minutes later with a "thank you for your patience" but no apology for the wait, it was sitting under the warmer for a while and our food was dry. The manager did come over later as he finally sensed we were upset, and comped our three glasses of wine. At that point the damage was already done and we just wanted out of there. Will not return and would not recommend.
It has been almost 10 years since I have dined at Madison's Grill. We were looking for a high end restaurant to celebrate my daughter's 19th birthday and wanted to try somewhere new. My wife and I always enjoyed dining here in the past, but I would describe our dinner this time round as less than average fare in a very nice setting. Unfortunately, the food has not kept pace with the ambience of this dining experience.
4-cocktails, 4-appetizers/salad, 4-entrees. No wine or desert = $310 with GST & Tip.
Our server did address our feedback with the kitchen and appologized stating, "we have the secondary chef working tonight as it is slow". It definately was a slow Sunday night reservation at 6:30 with only two other tables being served. All the more reason for better execution?
Even if the pricing reflected the "secondary" chef, I wouldn't be able to recommend Madison's Grill for high end dining. This is the first time I have given a restaurant a bad review.
So disappointed with this restaurant we had the six cours meal with wine paring. For the wine selection that part was really good but food wise so disappointed not worth the money it costed us at all, the presentation of the food was aweful and the main dish consisted of two carrots two brussul sprouts and a tenderloin with no juice or sauce it was really dry. We also had breakfast the next morning at this place I had a benidict egg that tasted really weird and made me sick, the patatoes were like three days old and the fruits seemed old as well.
Food was wonderful. Lamb was delicious, as was the salad with the delightful, but not overpowering, wasabi flavour. The shrimp cocktail was superb and the dense, rich brownie was the best I have ever had. Service was great; same too with the atmosphere and hospitality. A lovely mesl and evening.
We went to the Madison's Grill for my husband's birthday.
I had the rabbit and was quite happy with it, my husband chose the striploin and was impressed. His desert however, was rather disappointing. He had the Brownie a La Mode and reminded more of a frozen chocolate bar rather than a brownie. The texture of the Hot Bailey’s Ice Cream was just odd and tasted more like instant almond pudding. The seasonal pound cake I ordered was decent, no complaints there.
All in one, we had a nice evening, the cocktails were good and the wine fantastic . We had been to Madison's Grill twice before during the last few years and the food and service were outstanding. This time they just did not quite meet our expectations and we would rather try other fine dining places before returning. .
One last thing- maybe it was me, not paying attention to the machine when it was time for the bill, but it turns out that the tip was already added to the bill and I ended up tipping again.
Fish and chips totally inedible - fish covered in some disgusting batter, chips congealed hard as rock. Green salad consisted of a tray of sad wilted greens. Worst lunch I can remember in downtown Edmonton - which is saying something. At these prices, utterly unacceptable.
First time here; had Lunch; very average entrees, nothing special and certainly pricey for what we had ; Apple Streusel filling was tasty but the pastry very tough & dry; server took it off the bill which was a very nice gesture. Will try this restaurant one more time for dinner as perhaps this was just a bad day for the chef:)
I was unable to tell from the wine list if they had an unoaked Chardonnay so I asked. The waitress had no idea (no problem) so she said she would ask her manager. She came back and said they do not know. She recommended a Chardonnay to try so I did. Very oaky. I then picked another wine that I knew of. My point is if you are going to offer a wine list to the guest please take the time to educate your servers of the wine on the list.
We had to change our reservation last minute from breakfast to dinner. The manager and server were very accommodating and understanding, and make us feel comfortable. The space is nice and they have a decent wine list. Definitely worth checking out in Edmonton.
