Madera - Rosewood Hotel Sand Hill Ratings and Reviews
this was my husband's and my first time dining at madera and we were very impressed by the food and the excellent service. We loved everything we ordered - foie gras, gnocchi, scallops, beet salad - all delicious! It was a little noisy in there with people talking and the tables are kind of long so we it was hard to hear each other talk to one another - but we still had a good time.
We would highly recommend dining here
We finally were able to reserve a table....tried a couple times before. Had a special occasion to celebrate: my hubby's mile-stone B-day.
I liked the atmosphere, the crowd and your wine list! The food was so so..... I felt that dishes were way too complex and overdone for California! Sorry..... Craved for something fresh and tasteful.... Got a chicken main course that looked and tasted like a Costco canned ham........ I'd like to come one more time....at lunch/branch time......to enjoy your views!!!!!!!
My husband loves my cooking so getting him to go out on Thanksgiving was a bit of a challenge. He acquiesced but I did have to pitch a bit of a fit (grin). He is tough to please but Madera succeeded!! Thanksgiving lunch was served family style which meant there were plenty of options for the pickiest of eaters. (I have one of these too.) All of the dishes were spectacular and we had leftovers--my husband's strongest argument for staying home. The service was friendly and attentive and we didn't feel rushed. It was a lovely afternoon and my husband has bragged to everyone that the spare ribs were the best he's ever had. No fit will be needed next year! Yes!!
I am an employee of Rosewood hotels and wanted to check out the Sandhill location. Everyone was so nice, respectful and polite! The first employee that was very polite to my friends and I was the hostname Amity. Amity sat us down right away and got us a table outside on the patio. We were at lunch for a birthday, on our menus, they put "Happy 18th Birthday Paige." It was so cute and thoughtful for them to do!! The food was excellent!! I liked the variety on the wine menu. Overall it was an excellent service and can't want to go again!!
Pork loin was delicious and moist. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Pre-appetizer of tomato bisque was full of flavor and warm. Pear dessert was exquisite. Apple tartine had a nice presentation but lacked flavor. Wine selection was great and we chose a Napa red, which was delicious. Sparkling water and sourdough bread were as expected. Buttermilk bread was heavy. The butter presentation with olive oil in the center was a great idea.
I can't say enough about Madera! It scores full in all aspects. I booked a table for 2 and child (high chair) for my wife's birthday. We were seated in a great spot. Our server Katelyn was lovely! She was super patient with our daughter and took time to explain all the vegetarian options to us. She was extremely knowledgeable about every menu item as well! The food was outstanding! They had a complimentary dish that they brought out first. Then sourdough bread with butter was delicious. We ordered 1 appetizer and 2 entres and were quite full by the end of the meal. Finally, we found that there were no egg-less dessert options, but the 3-Michelin star dessert chef improvised and made a birthday dessert with a bed of berries topped with coconut ice cream and chocolate. The ambiance was also great! All in all, a great family experience! Would highly recommend anyone to go there!!
The food was disappointing again! Pork belly was sooooo bad. The ribeye steak for two was tasty but with all the fat, not really for two people. This place is a hit and miss — sometimes the food is good and sometimes so horrible.
The wine selection is super expensive and make it difficult to order something decent. So much mark up.
The food and ambiance was what you would expect at a Michelin Star restaurant. The dishes were imaginative and tasty and the service was very good. My only complaint was that service was a bit slow, I appreciate not being rushed but it seemed like it took a very long time for our entrees to come out after our starters. It just felt like the pace of the meal was slower than just being leisurely. Overall our dinner for 6 people took well over 3 hours, with starters and dessert. We ordered about 2 cocktails each, but no wine.
Food was good, it was nice to have special treats on the birthday. Service wasn't up to par. It took the server a long time to take our order, he didn't check on us during the meal. It took the bus boy a long time to take my dish away to pack it to go. The worst is that no one ever answer the phone at the restaurant. I had to always call the hotel so that they could connect me to the restaurant
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal with terrific service for our recent anniversary dinner. We noted it our anniversary when making our Open Table reservation. The staff was very accommodating and attentive but not stifling. Our menu included a Happy Anniversary message and our waiter started us off with complimentary sparkling wine and we ended with a small slice of complimentary anniversary cake. My wife was very pleased with her wild salmon entree and I enjoyed the pork loin, both very well prepared and presented. A higher end restaurant but prices not excessive by Bay Area standards. Even the valet service at the hotel entry was very welcoming and efficient. Certainly would recommend.
We are frequent Madera customers. Last Sunday evening was a disappointment, not sure if chef is different or it was just an off night. Table was excellent on the deck, but although waiter was professional, he was not friendly and it seemed he was just mumbling off phrases he memorized. I had the Sunchoke Veloute, Kampachi and Duck. Nothing stood out as memorable and the soup was served too cool. My boyfriend said the Heirloom Tomato salad was also just okay. Not so sure we will go back often anymore.
From start to finish our dinner was outstanding. Wines were incredible and although you could spend a ton of money on some of the vintages, we had a Sancerre that was delicious and reasonable. Rachel the Somm is spot on, ask her as she really knows her wines.
We can't wait to go back, if I lived closer I would frequent this place as often as possible.
My first visit, will return. Shared two appetizers with my date, the first, grilled foie gras, had lots of flavors and nuances. The second, the angelloti, was a new take on a pasta dish, delectable. Then we shared the halibut, soft and tender white meat. Delicious. The pairings were Sangiovese and Malbec for the appetizers and a NZ daub blanc for the halibut. Perfect. Finished the dinner with a double expresso, aromatic and tasty.
I will return.
